Please give some feedback on the BB School

Now that we've had the "Buffy Boards School of Slayers and Demon Hunters" up there for a while, I wanted to get some feedback on it.

What do you like, what don't you like, what could make it better?

I'm looking for constructive criticism here - please remember that a lot of people put a lot of work into the School, so please take their feelings into account when posting responses.

I'm maybe not too qualified to comment on this topic as i've not really taken part in the "school" theme of this section of the board. I come here to Buffy Boards to talk about Buffy and Angel, for the most part, as my real life mates don't actually watch the shows. It's nice to have some online friends to discuss my favourite series with. That being the case, i don't really take a lot of notice of the majority of the stuff in this section. I'm not into RPG or the "Rate My Whatever" type games, i don't write or really read fanfic and i'm absolutely useless at fanart (although i do enjoy checking out what others have done, there are some really talented artists around here).

The only time i really come into this section is to post in the occasional off topic thread, but even that is quite rare. I'd imagine that 95% of my posts here have been in the Buffy and Angel parts of the board.

That said, what i see here is very nicely done. The whole school concept is a great idea and, even though i haven't joined one of the houses myself (too much of a rebel to go joining anything, lol), that seems to be a very popular part of the board.

If i was to make a recommendation for an improvement it would be to make the off topic section a little more structured. Maybe have a general discussion section, a television section, a sports section, a movie section and, most importantly for me, a music section.

Hell, make a rock music section and i'll make the time to mod if for you myself! 😉

I love the school! It's nice to have an off-topic area to get to know everybody on the board better. I don't really use the fan-fiction section or the RPG section, but they seem popular. And I love the houses, what an awesome idea! Overall, "Buffy Boards School of Slayers and Demon Hunters" pretty much rocks. But I agree with The Watcher, the social studies area might be more organized if it was split up into a few categories. 🙂
 
I love the school, I think it is a great idea! I love the RPG, The Art, Off-Topic, games, and Fan fic forums!! It is really fun to have something that is really unique. Oh I I think the Dorm's are the Best, that was a very cool idea!!

And Like PZ Said it is a great way to get to know everyone!

How long has the school theme been up for?

(On another note, when I first started I thought that the School section was a giant RPG, and that the idea behind it was Buffy has set up a school!!, lol)
 
Yeah I agree about the School system being a great idea!:happy29:

One thing I'd suggest would be to have an automatic email sent to all newbies registering so that they get to know that the school system exist and that they can be sorted. Because I've pointed out that's what they ask a lot and some don't find out before a while.

I agree about classifying General Studies topics a little more...

I had an idea... not sure it's connected to this part of the thread but it could be... don't know if it's do-able or silly either... but I was wondering if we could create a BB newspaper / newslater... like... I pointed out some ppl sometimes are away for a while so that'd be useful for them. And maybe if it was a not-too-long-and-funny kind of newsletter ppl would read it? Just something to tell what's going on in BB and maybe talk about Houses stuff... contest / competition / fun facts.. could mention also the most popular threads that ppl may be interested in and stuff... you could subscribe to receive it or not or sth.. that was just an idea so yeah... :rolleyes0
 
Hmm I'll admit I don't use the RPG, Art, Fanfic and Games forums as much as I used to but think they are valuable and well liked.

I really like the houses, its a nice atmosphere. Like your own circle of friends at school say. Was a bit sceptical at first but it works well.
 
I absolutely love the school, and of course the houses its brilliant. It gives us the chance to get to know members of the board. at least some of them, It gets us to form idea's and things off of each other. Plus the little competitions that the houses have agianst each other are fun. Plus of course the Fanfic and Art forum and all that were hear before the school was great. This was one of the best idea's you've had for BB.

That's what I thought!!!!! I was like I want to be a witch like Willow or a Slayer!!!!!!!!!


But this section is indeed very fun. This is how I get to know all of the people here! The houses are awesome! GO MERRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!::tongue:: :grinsanta :monkeybut

The School was here when I joined so I don't know what Buffy Boards is like without it. But I still love it. The houses thing is brilliant. It's given me the chance to meet some very awesome people (That's you Merrickans 🙂) The Social Studies section is great also but I do agree that it would be better to divide it into categories. The RPG section, Fan Art, and Fan Fic sections are awesome. It gives people the chance to do something entertaining or show off their talent for art or writing. To make a long review less long, The School was a great addition.
 
like VG, the school was already here when i joined, but i think it's a really cool place.
my house, the fanfic forum, RPG's and Art gallery are where i post most in here, but this place has allowed me to realize how incredibly talented some our members our.
it's also allowed me to make some great friends in the form of my housemates (you guys rock) and i know that i probably wouldn't have talked to some of them if we weren't housed together.
i like the idea of a newsletter or a welcome post for the newbies, but i understand that the admins and mods just don't have the time for this.
all in all, i love the school! terrific addition to the boards! 😀
 
the school board is definitly where i post the most here on BB. its the most easy going and least debate-y

i totally love the dorms idea. although it'd be cooler if there was a purpose to them. ive heard rumors of competitions but dont really know anything more than that

i love the fanfic/fan art sections although i dont personally add to them (well...not really). i like to look at everyone's creations 🙂

the only thing i would change would be the RPGs. i love to do them but ive started so late that it would be hard on my end to join. i dont really have a suggestion, sorry, but..........anyway

overall i love it
 
From what i have seen it's really good.
I like posting in the off-topic forum, it gives you a litle information about other members.
also i am enjoying the houses, it's brilliant.
 
I love the school! I don't always post in the off topic bit but I usually read the posts.

I agree that we need to make it more accessible to the newbies. I know I didn't really find it for a while. Instead of a newsletter or PM to tell the new members about it, maybe we could have a link on the home page!
 
I mean at the top like we have the links for Tale of the Slayer or for the Quiz or New posts etc.

I know when I first joined I didn't go down as far as the BBSSDH, I just browsed the episode forums. It wasn't until I saw the Sorting Tome thing in New Posts that I even ventured in here!
 
I think adding this section was a brilliant idea. I was here before the school time, and I think it's really made the boards even better. The boards were phenomenal before, and now we have a little bit of an extra flair.

I love the houses. That's my favorite forum to post in, and I get along really nice with my fellow Raideners!

The games are popular as well as fanfic and fanart. Definitely a keeper!
 
Yeah I think I joined only a few months before this was added, so can't really compare, but I do like the school idea a lot.. And love Raiden of course 🙂

Have to agree!! I was here before this section was added and its definitely made it more fun and always friendly. The houses ROCK!! Sorry I cant give any suggestions to make it better. IMO "if it aint broke, dont fix it"!!

Lol I'll join in the "woo Raiden" vibe. Gotta love it.

Also, a "buffy opens a school that you can train to be a slayer/witch/watcher/whatever" in is a cool idea. But a lot of work I'd imagine.
