News Please Read: Change in Board Staff

Perhaps we can, technically. But that's not enough. I've been a mod for more than half a decade now, and know what it takes. And honestly, the list of responsibilities taken on by Kean and Lyri had me awestruck. It's not easy to find moderators of such a caliber.

I'm not saying they didn't do alot, I'm saying that the way it was said, it looked like they were things that only they could do, when some of them aren't.

"Selig disagrees: Extremely unhelpful and unnecessary post!"

Surely karma on an "Extremely unhelpful and unnecessary post" is just as bad as the post itself?

"To the best of my knowledge, all of those jobs were voluntary. By the size of the load that these two ladies were carrying, volunteers must be in pretty short supply. Maybe if there had been less energy being spent bitching about how things are run here, some of the ones doing all the bitching could have volunteered to share the burden. After all, "any of us could do them," right?"

Perhaps if we were told about them and made aware that there were things to volunteer for...

Holy hell.... What in the world is going on here, people??!?! Seriously... Do we really have to resort to all this freakin' name calling and mean-spirited insinuations?
People messed up and said some really hurtful things in a heated moment, causing two very important members here to jump ship. That's the facts, and it sucks all around. But we shouldn't let this be the downfall of the entire board.
Honestly, I could definitely understand at this point if Buffy and Faith DID decide to close the board. This is getting rediculous.

Sorry if you wouldn't mind, they didn't jump ship, I find that insulting to them, and makes them seem like the left because of 1 little incident, and that just wasn't the case, this was an ongoing issue for them that has been going on for almost a year. Saying anything less, is insulting.

And Clem I already answered your question.

Sorry if you felt it was insulting to Kean and Lyri... It was not intended to sound that way. I know this isn't one isolated incident; I'm just saying that was the thing that pushed them to their decision to leave.

My apologies Clem, I thought it was negative karma.

I would like to apologize for any offense I have caused.

Clearly people are misunderstanding and misinterpreting what I said and why I said it. For that, I am truly sorry.

For what it's worth (which I realize isn't much), I have never once supported what was said about Lyri and Kean, and I am sorry that things have turned out this way. I'll miss them.

I think everyone (yes, everyone) should take a step back for a moment. I understand what caused all of this, but this thread has gotten to a point where people completely innocent of any of this are getting snapped at. This includes mods, and regular members alike. It makes sense to me that people are upset about what happened initially but now people are just screaming at each other for no reason. People feel passionately about this, and tempers are being lost. But if what people are saying is true (that we want a friendlier board where people can feel free to speak without getting bullied), this is not the road to that place.

I have no authority or right to tell people what to do, but I would like to make a suggestion: don't use this thread to crucify one another. Use it to wish Kean and Lyri the best of luck or beg them to come back, etc. but can we try not to make things worse? The mods can discuss whatever action they feel is necessary to take privately but I fail to see how any of us bitching back and forth at one another is going to make things better. Whatever the intentions of anyone involved in this, we've arrived at an ugly place none of us wants to be. For now, can't we just try to remember that most people here do want what's best for this place, even if we don't agree on how to get there?

I haven't been around for a while, so if I fudge the details along the line, excuse me. But this is f-cking ridiculous.

I'm not going to go off and say I've been angelic and nice and sweet and the best member ever here. I have opinions about the way the board is run and if I disagree with something going on I say so. I'm impulsive and irritable and sometimes I come off as a complete bitch when it's unintended, and I sound like a foot-stomping five-year-old sometimes. This is all unintended.

I haven't properly spoken to Lyri in a few months, mostly, I assume, due to her new promotion and her job and my pregnancy. I was on the side of The 29 during the "time out", and I remain on that side, not because of where my loyalties lie or because I have friends in The 29 but because I disagreed with how the situation was handled and I felt something needed to be said about it. I tried to talk to Lyri during this and I didn't get a response, which led me to blow the situation out of proportion in my head and think she didn't want to talk to me because I was put a 'lowly peon'. I've been under this assumption for a while now because of the lack of communication.

I just got a PM from Lyri and it depressed the hell out of me. Lyri was always my friend and I was wrong in assuming she never wanted to talk to me. She was going to come to my wedding reception and she was excited about being Auntie Aly to baby Faith. I'm hurt like hell right now because Lyri and I have been inseparable for years since I joined this board. She was my first friend here and my best. I love her like my sister and now she was run off by a bunch of moronic comments.

Now, my understanding here is is that I also have friends who made said comments or had something to do with Lyri and Kean's departure. I understand both sides of the situation - Lyri's reasoning for leaving is similar to mine if I'd been put in this same situation, even though when I look at it it seems a little over exaggerated. I understand that people had problems with the way Lyri and Kean were running things [and, if I may be honest, I was a little jealous of their friendship - I missed that kind of kinship Lyri and I had back in the day], which is understandable, but TALKING TO THEM ABOUT IT might've helped. And if it didn't, going over their heads to talk to someone else might've too.

I think I get everything that's going on here but that doesn't stop be from being pissed the f-ck off that I lost a friend and people around here can't seem to get their f-cking heads out of their asses long enough to act like f-cking adults. My best friend has a one-year-old who I've been staying with for the past four days and if I wanted to deal with children I'd go upstairs and play with him. Grow the hell up. You're all better than this load of shit and somehow you've forgotten it along the way.

EDIT: This also includes snapping at YC. I read her post as very adult respectful, and people snapping at her about it is childish and uncalled for. It's this exact attitude that makes the few people around here who want to deal with things in a mature way revert to whiny five-year-olds because everytime they open their mouths someone's always in their faces. I don't know, man. My mind is boggled.

What's 'Reputation'?
Double post for the sake of clarity:

I want you guys to understand that I'm not on anyone's 'side' here. I equally understand the feelings and motives of both sides involved and I'm equally pissed off with everyone. And I think people on both sides need to slow their rolls and get a freakin' grip.

I don't think any sweeping movement on the side of the administration is going to fix this, because I can foresee people flipping out about it and causing more problems [they have the right to say something if they don't agree], and the members need to take a pill and realize this board used to be full of smart, mature people and somewhere we all lost our shit. Coming here pisses me off more often than not because it's either the administration doing something I don't agree with or members acting like children. Figure it out. I love this place too much to leave for real, but something needs to be figured out soon and I don't really believe it's that difficult to find something that's gonna work for everyone.

Also, on the note of 'we're guests in Buffy's home' - that's true to a certain extent, but I think people need to understand that people in a position of power are putting themselves in a place where people aren't going to agree with their actions all the time. Such is life. And as members of this community, we have the right to state our disagreements with the staff and work it out in a calm, adult way. I know this is Buffy's board and she's free to reign however she wants, but any decent leader is willing to listen to the complaints of the people and take their feelings into account [I'm not trying to say Buffy doesn't do this, don't misunderstand me]. So people running around going, "It's Buffy's board, tralalala" irritate me because yes, this is true, and I agree, but we're people too and we have a right to a certain amount of respect. I didn't sign up for this board and sign away all my rights as a human being and I refuse to do so. I'm still not saying Buffy or any other members of the staff do this, but I feel that by saying that people are forgetting simple things.

Well, then, prepare to be irritated, because, tralalala, guess what. The lady who pays the bills makes the rules, and we have no rights whatsoever on this web site except those that she gives us. There's nothing democratic, there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of ANYTHING unless the owner of the site allows it.

you're wonderful
Well, if you're willing to be treated like shit for no purpose besides someone else's wishes, then by all means, go for it. I'm not saying the staff here do any of that, but that's what you're setting yourself up for. I'm asking for respect as a member and as a person, and I will NOT gel with the idea that we're all pawns on Buffy's chess board. Like I said: I didn't sign up for this board and sign away all my rights as a human being and I refuse to do so. I won't be treated like shit or have my rights taken away because someone deems it fit.

Also, you seem to have ignored everything else I've said which, frankly, doesn't surprise me because everyone else lately has been doing the same thing.

It seems to me that no one around here is willing to try to see the other side of the coin, which is very sad. In order for everyone to be able to get along and for all this crap to stop, we all have to make more of an effort to see things with an open mind. It's true that a LOT of crappy stuff has been going on around here lately, but not just by the members and yes I did just say that. Not one member here is perfect, and people need to quit pointing fingers and instead focus on how to fix the issue.

Buffy, I want to say again, I wasn't calling you guys out or trying to talk shit. If anything, I was using you as an example - an example in the sense that you guys are moderators and admins here and since the discussion was taking place on this board, it made sense to say. My point itself still remains, but I don't want anyone to misunderstand my phrasing.

I agree with allot of what you've said Mesekte, but as you have said the staff here don't go around ruling like this is Buffy's board and anyone who says anything else is a bad guy, in the exact same way as your saying people want respect, the Mods wanted that too. Not in any special way for being mods but just general respect and we wern't getting that (and not even us, members were getting treated like crap by other members all over the place).

And HisMrs I have to disagree when you say that "no one around here is willing to try to see the other side of the coin", that is true of some people but not everyone, I assume you mean the time out when you say "It's true that a LOT of crappy stuff has been going on around here lately, but not just by the membersand yes I did just say that." which I definetly disagree with, but also have to ask did anyone look at that incident from the mods side of this coin, becuase it definetly doesn't seem like they did, after it hapened it was pretty much 'how dare you'.

OK i really wasn't around for the whole "Time Out" thing but if what i'm hearing is right and call me out if i'm wrong cause i'm only getting half of this and i appologize if i didn't read it right but here goes nothing...

What i'm hearing is that certin members of the boards in some thread or maybe a few threads were getting out of hand and starting to bash other Members for their thoughts on a subject which in part is completely against the rules be it you had a bad day or not and the mods decided it was time to step in and take action and so they banned certin members that were good friends of other members who were also in on it in some way and those members are pissed cause they didn't get banned (which i'm guessing may be because they didn't have as much of a part in it so the mods decided they should have a lesser punishment or none at all). So really this whole mess is because some members were pissed that the mods were doing their jobs and just trying to teach some members a lesson on learning how to follow the rules and respect others as they would like to be respected themselves?

Ok like i said if i'm totally wrong sorry, wasn't hear and just ignore that but if in fact that is the correct concept then I think the Mods did nothing at all wrong... they are just so tired of people being rude to other people just because they have their own opinions on things. Just smile and be happy that you didn't get banned for good and stop crying and complainning because they edited your post because they thought that it was rude.

I'm just going to jump in here to say that this is not just aftermath of that moment. As has been said previously, this had been going on long before the time out. There have been at least 5 mods to leave in the past year because of member behavior.

I'm sorry i did read that and your right completely.... i just meant people seem to be dwelling on that moment in the last like 3 pages....but i'd imagine Mods have people treat them like crap all the time just because most people hate to abid by certin rules and hate authority
