News Please Read: Change in Board Staff

Holy shit, know I was away awhile...but yikes. Sorry guys, your definately going to be missed. 🙁 I think i'll skip the drama of the next 7 pages, but are you guys gone for good or just done with the moderating? Just wanna say, I love you guys, and every single time ive talked with you both, you have both been amazing. And im very sorry that things have led to you feeling verbally attacked by members.... who anyway? Dont want to know who, only.. Why arn't they being banned instead of you guys leaving??

They're gone for good, and people will be banned.
But people are acting like this is a new phenomenon, and it's not something that just happened or that "we started".

Of course I can only speak for myself here, but I think the problem is that we don't really notice something going on. Don't get me wrong, I think we're clear that most board members appreciate the good work the mods on this site do so that we don't get bothered by negativity, but this also leads to us being oblivious to anything going on. You say it's been going on, and I do believe you, but unless we've been directly the cause of that negativity (and most of us aren't!) we usually don't get to see any of it. I think this was also one of the main issue many of us had with the bannings in April, suddenly, out of nowhere for us, it was announced that things were going bad and consequently the bannings. It's only logical that those that weren't even aware of anything going on and suddenly found themselves banned were pretty ticked off. I'm not trying to bring all these issues back up, I'm merely trying to explain this to get any misunderstandings out of the way and end this whole thing, cos frankly, I think a not neglectible part of this whole issue is miscommunication between everyone.

Why can't we all just be friends and get along?

I completely agree!!! I'm pretty sure I've had nothing to do with any of this, but I'm not enjoying coming on here at all anymore. It's so depressing.

It's fine if you guys don't see it, it's great actually that you don't. BUT as you said the people doing it do see it and do see our posts about it and they just continue on. I mean, let's face it, people didn't even last a day after Kean and Lyri left before they were making the same kind of comments.

And HisMrs I have to disagree when you say that "no one around here is willing to try to see the other side of the coin", that is true of some people but not everyone, I assume you mean the time out when you say "It's true that a LOT of crappy stuff has been going on around here lately, but not just by the membersand yes I did just say that." which I definetly disagree with, but also have to ask did anyone look at that incident from the mods side of this coin, becuase it definetly doesn't seem like they did, after it hapened it was pretty much 'how dare you'.

Well it seems we'll have to agree to disagree. I'm not talking about just the banning nonsense that went on when I say that the members are not the only ones at fault. I don't want to elaborate any more than that 'cause I'm not one for name calling. Plus that stuff is all in the past and I've moved on from all of it.
I have a lot of respect for most of the staff here. Buffy and Faith and the mods have put in a lot of work on a great site and I am really sad by what's going on around here. It's gotten to the point where people are leaving 'cause it's simply no fun to be here and that shouldn't be happening at all. But those of you who are seeing this whole deal in black and white need a reality check.

Agreed (to disagree) :) But also agree with everything else you said.
OK, final post then I am off again.

The problem with this site is simple, its not he initial bickering, thats normal amongst a group of people (heck it worked here for how many years?) its threads like this, the bickering about bickering!

Have a good one BB, if in a years time this place is still up and running, I might drop a note to say hello to a whole host of people I don't know!

It will still be here :p How the devil are you?
I am not the most regular member on here, I have posted a bit in the past but dont so much now. TBH I feel to afraid to come on here nowadays. I am afraid to get involved with discussions and start threads in case I get slamed or ignored.

When i first joined there seemed to be loads of really nice people and I loved that I had found a great place to share my love of Buffy. I had never liked forums before as they always seemed so cliquey and BB was not like that. But over the last year it seems to have started to get like that. 🙁

Aargh, page 6 and still no end in sight. At least I got to see the post by yellowcrayon that apparently kicked the latest spat off (has anyone noticed how in politics, the sharpest spin doctors seize on one ill considered phrase used by the opposition, and shake it like a dog would a toy?).

But I've got to wash up and take some stuff to the hospital now so, as someone who is about as far from being a part of all this as it's possible to be, can I ask, does all this talk about two valued members leaving mean that Kean and Lyri have actually left, or just resigned as mods? After all, if part of the problem was a perception that either of them was on a 'power trip', giving up moderating would eradicate that perception, and the other mods could still protect them from any bullying.

I know, from experience, that some mods do let power go to their heads, and some mods find the pressure of the job insurmountable, and sometimes these are the self same people. One other question (because one of the things I do is ask questions that I haven't seen anyone else asking): how much of the pressure to resign was about the things nasty people were saying, and how much of it was down to generally nice people saying generally nice things about people who were regarded as nasty? Or was there a slippery slope where 'OMG, I can't believe X was banned, he/she wouldn't upset anyone' segued (sp?) into 'OMG, why would the mods do that?', and finally the riot gear was handed out and it's 'Four Dead In Ohio'?

It's all getting a little 'Are you, or have you ever been, a bit testy about authority?'

Now I'm going to press 'Submit Entry', and see just how much catching up I have to do... 😱

EDIT: Oh, page 8. Well, that wasn't so bad..

That post by yellowcrayon actually did not "kick off the latest spat".

They have left the boards.

how much of the pressure to resign was about the things nasty people were saying, and how much of it was down to generally nice people saying generally nice things about people who were regarded as nasty?.

What caused them to leave were comments directed at themselves specifically and how members were treating them specifically.

Sadly bullying behavior is rife in every walk of life.
But to find it here is not surprising, just disapointing, and
it had to be stopped, simple as that.
Its unfortunate that people like k and l had to leave. They
sounded nice.

I'm sad, shocked, stunned, a tad angry... I read about this bullying and name calling, but blissfully never see it. Everything passes me by, i am so unaware of everything, but for once I wish I had picked up on this and been able to alert mods and prevent this in an honourable fashion.

Is there a way we can move forward with Kean and Lyri on board?

Love the PJ button in your sig!
damn just joind not long ago, but i've had my share of experience with respected and dedicated mods in other forums living cuz of some bs. damn hopefully you guys work it out. ;/

I don't mean to sound rude, but this thread has been a little crazy since page 3. Should it not be locked. People know who to contact if they have an issue, by people (and now myself) continuing to post, the discussion continues to be fuelled and a bad atmosphere spread.

You can always make an Admin comment later on to clarify whats gone on, who's been banned, what you're now doing to prevent the same and to conclude.

Speaking as an ex-mod of a site, thats what I'd do.

Well I think the idea is to let everyone have their say. If we'd closed it and someone had wanted to say something on the subject but it was just an opinion, not something they felt they had to PM to a mod, they still can.

Wouldn't want to close it early, and leave someone who hasn't gotten a say yet felling pissed they hadn't been on in time.

The issue does seem to be slowing down now, but closing it earlier would have been the same as sweeping a problem under a rug.

though when you do, at least it will remove the 'please read' from the no1 spot on the BB homepage for every n00b to read.
