I want to make something clear to all the members of this board:

It is not appropriate or your job to tell other members what they can and can't do on the board.

If someone needs to be reminded of a board rule, the staff will take care of it.

By all means, use the report a post function or pm a mod if there's a problem. But it is not acceptable to hijack threads to tell another member they've done something wrong, especially as you might not be clear on the rule yourself.

We take pride here in being welcoming to new members, where the older ones are accepting and don't shut them out of some imagined "club" of established members.

Going after new members and telling them what is or isn't allowed or "normal" on the boards will not be tolerated.

I expect everyone to continue to be friendly to your fellow member and treat each other with respect.

Have people been doing that? well, that sucks. but, yeah, I agree with Edmund Blackadder (am watching the 2nd right now 😀)

I'd hope new members would be welcomd the same way I was welcomed

You get Karma pressie for a) agreeing with me and b) watching Blackadder
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right

I was going with the Bob Marley theme.

I like the fireworks.

Wasn't aware that any of this was going on... I thought we were a pretty great, inclusive group...

You have to remember, Buffy's a bud-nipperer. *ahem*. What I mean is that just because she's posted a reminder, it doesn't mean that it's a widespread occurance or anything. All of the incidents are focused on the mod's attention, so while they might notice a problem developing, the majority of member's won't have a clue.

I have been a registered member for about 3 weeks and I have never had anyone tell me what to do or not do. However I have had some people respond to one of my posts in a very "Aggressive" or "Confrontational" manner, which is just downright rude and unfriendly.

I have run a forum like this and our policy was, "Attack the theme, not the member."

I have seen (on may forums) long established members who try to keep their "top dog" standing by making new members uncomfortable by just disagreeing with every post. Kind of pathetic, don't you think? I for one never post an "I don't agree" reply without giving a reason and backing it up with some facts.

And lastly, the "your post is offensive, derrogatory or insulting" is the defense of the weak and simple-minded. I am a strong believer that NO ONE can offend you, you must decide to be offended. And taking offense and getting angry is a sure way to guarantee that the other person definitely won't see things your way at all.

my 2 cents

PD. Love this forum, just think it should be a celebration of the shows, not a bitcafest.

Heh! "bitcafest" I love it!
I really love this forum too : ) And quite a few of us are outspoken...nothing wrong with that! We just (including myself) have to learn to express our opinions in a mature and non-judgemental way, eh? If we all agreed, it would be mighty boring on here. I love hearing other people's viewpoints.

Ahhhh, I see. 🙂 That's cool... I was wondering if I missed something. LOL
I don't agree with some of the statements made here, such as
And lastly, the "your post is offensive, derrogatory or insulting" is the defense of the weak and simple-minded.
If someone says to me "You're bloody stupid" or "I hate the way you type", it's a direct insult, so of course I'd find find that both offensive and insulting. And if I say so, I do not believe that makes me weak-minded...

I have seen a couple instances where people disagree with someone's post only to post something personal about the person who posted, and not an actual reason for disagreeing with their opinion. This is the only problem I've actually witnessed though, and I really hope the other stuff isn't going on.

Thanks for clarifying. Your 2nd example is exactly what I meant. But in both cases you can still decide not to be offended or care!!
It's true that I haven't been on the boards for very long but I've never been offended by any post.

I have seen (on may forums) long established members who try to keep their "top dog" standing by making new members uncomfortable by just disagreeing with every post.

I realize you're not talking about BB but when I joined, I couldn't believe how warmly I was welcomed. I remember checking my introduction thread 10 minutes after I posted it and it was already full of people welcoming me in! Definitely unlike any forum I've been to before. 😛

It was like that for me, too, when I first came here. This has been the only board that's ever been like that for me.

We (as a board) are indeed very friendly. I couldn´t believe it either and my intro thread has a lot less posts than the threads have now. But just because 15 people say welcome or that some people are extremly friendly in vm´s or in the irc isn´t a guarantee that everyone behaves the same way. Bad behavior can always happen and some of us seem to do it even when we don´t have any intention of doing so. 😉 But as a whole we´re an extremly friendly place. Sometimes it just take a while to get the right "feel" for people.

And I don´t have to explain that it´s a personal opinion not a fact over how things are do I? 😉

Not to flog a dead horse but a member here sent me a negative Karma note with a purposely misspelled profanity. Obviously this person knew that the computer only recognizes the correct spelling and was therefore able to get the "F" word past the filters which I assume are in place.
Again, I am nobody here but I love to take a look at the records of the more conflictive members on any type of forum (You can just click on a member's name, then go to their stats and look up all their posts and all the threads they have created.) It is usually the people who never contribute anything POSITIVE that are the most problematic.
I'd say "JUST DON'T DO IT" to that kind of behaviour.

It's true, some of the people here are confrontational and will leap down your throat on the drop of a hat...I've also received one totally unprovoked hate PM to date 😛...a message board is just like any other social environment I guess...some people will get along and others won't...lots of different personalities...some that mesh well, some that don't...

I say embrace the hate. Lather it up...it takes more effort to dislike someone than to like them and I figure if I'm worth effort...allll is good 😀

Whining comes naturally to you, doesn't it?

You've been quite negative in a lot of posts AND you've been quite hostile as well.

The thing is, 'negative' comments, I find, come from someone either trying to cause a ruckus or simply responding in kind to someone who has been rather negative to them.
