so post........ or just look LOL

Faute de Mieux
by Dorothy parker

Travel, trouble, music, art,
A kiss, a frock, a rhyme -
I never said they feed my heart,
But still they pass my time.

and

Unfortunate Coincidence
by dorothy parker

By the time you swear you're his,
Shivering and sighing,
And he vows his passion is
Infinite, undying -
Lady, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.

and one of mine:

i'm sitting here in the middle of the night
filling myself with horror and with freight
filling myself with sorrow and with woe,
thinking of all the bad things that could happen to me and you

Heaven-
by Emily Dickinson:

Heaven is what I cannot reach!
The apple on the tree,
Provided it do hopelss hang,
That "heaven" is, to me.

The color on the cruising cloud,
The interdicted ground
Behind the hill, the house behind, --
There Paradise is found!

OK here is a couple of good poems I think-

You and Me!

Time and time again
I tell you how I feel
Yet over and over
I want to show it's real

To see the smile on your face
And hold your arms
In sweet embrace
I know we'll be together

For the rest of our lives
I'll always tell you everything
I'll have nothing to hide
Don't you ever fear
That I will go away
For right by your side
Is where I'm going to stay
I will be here

Here is my favorite-

Without you, who am I?
Wherever my heart stops it doesn't seem right
On which day?
Whereabouts can we carry on the unfinished love
At the cross roads, who is beside you?
Even if the world denies you
It won't make me give you up
Even if our past has nothing to prove it
I will stay by you
I definitely can't lose you.
Your hand your voice still taking up my heart
How can I forget thinking about you is like breathing?

I definitely can't lose you
Don't care where you are
I definitely will be able to find you

i love this one:

the ghost(E.D.)

The only ghost i ever saw
was dressed in mechlin, --so;
he wore no sandal on his foot,
and stepped like flakes of snow.
His gait was soundless,like the bird,
but rapid, like the roe;
his fashions quaint,mosaic,
or,haply,mistletoe.

hi conversation seldom,
his laughter like the breeze
that dies away in dimples
among the pensive trees.
our interview was transient, --
of me,himself was shy;
and god forbid I look behind
since that appalling day!

LA: wow those where great! thanx for sharing!

Magui: i like that one too!

this next poem i wrote just a cuopple of mins ago... as you can see from the poems mood, i am in a sorta wierd mood at the moment.. that is, i have been for some days now😀

i guess i can just surrender
to these feelings i bare
and just be taken over by this november
before snow and cold december

i guess i can just surrender
to just let them win today
let them take me over
and then prey they'll go away

and i wrote this one right before the one over:

i sit back
and let it flow
me feelings, my frear
and all the resentment i built up over the years

i sit back
i listen to the radio
i feel a feeling i've never felt before
i feel this wired liberation

so maybe this deprestion
isn't the end
after
all

😀

thanx! i'm acually writing pretty okay at the mom.. i haven't written that good in awhile

BTW LA did you write the once you shared?? i liked them(am a sucker for poems like that-LOL)

okai.. i've written poems since i was 15.. last time i counted i had written over 1300! some are good some are not(LOL) but thats how it is right??

i'm gonna post one to my boyfriend now:
you are the light
the one that brightens every night
the one who leads me through it all
the one who keeps me safe
so that i won't break or fall

My own stuff is a) too long, b) too song-like and c) probably not for this kind of board.

So I'll just post a couple poems I really enjoy.

...a more coherent one, which was ironically mentioned on Angel:

The Vampire , by Charles Baudelaire

You that, like a dagger's thrust,
Have entered my complaining heart,
You that, stronger than a host
Of demons, came, wild yet prepared;

Within my mind's humility
You made your bed and your domain;
"” Infamous one who's bound to me
Like any felon by his chain,

Like a gambler by his games,
Like the bottle and the sot,
Like the worms in one's remains,
"” Damn you! Damnation be your lot!

I've begged the merciful, swift sword
To overcome my liberty "”
To poison I have said the word:
Save me from poltroonery.

Alas the sword! Alas the poison!
Contemptuous, they spoke to me:
"You never can deserve remission
Of your accursed slavery,

"Imbecile! "” If our deadly empire
Freed you from your present fate,
Your kiss would soon resuscitate
The cold cadaver of your vampire!"

And this last one, it is actually a song by a metal band named Opeth, but like most of their lyrics, it not only can be stand alone and be considered a poem, it is also damn good.

Face of Melinda, by Mikael Akertfeld

By the turnstile beckons a damsel fair
The face of Melinda neath blackened hair
No joy would flicker in her eyes
Brooding sadness came to a rise

Words would falter to atone
Failure had passed the stepping stone
She had sworn her vows to another
This is when no-one will bother

And conceded pain in crumbling mirth
A harlot of God upon the earth
Found where she sacrificed her ways
That hollow love in her face

Still I plotted to have her back
The contentment that would fill the crack
My soul released a fluttering sigh
This day fell, the darkness nigh

I took her by the hand to say
All faith forever has been washed away
I returned for you in great dismay
Come with me, far away to stay

Endlessly gazing in nocturnal prime
She spoke of her vices and broke the rhyme
But baffled herself with the final line
My promise is made but my heart is thine

One of Shakespeare I discovered few ago, and a poem by a french poet (it's not so good in the translation, but well, i guess it's how it's always with translation)

William Shakespeare

Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme;
But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone, besmeared with sluttish time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword nor war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
'Gainst death and all-oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
You live in this, and dwell in lovers' eyes.

Le dormeur du Val (The Sleeper in the valley) - Arthur Rimbaud
It is a green hollow where a stream gurgles,
Crazily catching silver rags of itself on the grasses ;
Where the sun shines from the proud mountain :
It is a little valley bubbling over with light.

A young soldier, open-mouthed, bare-headed,
With the nape of his neck bathed in cool blue cresses,
Sleeps ; he is stretched out on the grass, under the sky,
Pale on his green bed where the light falls like rain.

His feet in the yellow flags, he lies sleeping. Smiling as
A sick child might smile, he is having a nap :
Cradle him warmly, Nature : he is cold.

No odour makes his nostrils quiver ;
He sleeps in the sun, his hand on his breast
At peace. There are two red holes in his right side.

Translated by Oliver Bernard : Arthur Rimbaud, Collected Poems (1962)

Here's a classic - hope it's not too borderline.

Mary had a little lamb,
She also had a duck,
She put them on the mantlepiece,
To see if they would f...all off.

My fave poem is 'daffodils' by william wordsworth, but i don't know it well enough to quote it.

Poems

post here some of your favorite poems.. (ana8 has inspired for this thread with her thread haveyou...?? !!!)
here it is:

The Gladly Dead
by Charles Baudelaire

In a soil thick with snails and rich as grease
I've longed to dig myself a good deep grave,
There to stretch my old bones at ease
And sleep in oblivion, like a shark in a wave.

Wills I detest, and tombstones set in rows;
Before I'd beg a tear of anyone,
I'd rather go alive and let the crows
Bleed the last scrap of this old carrion.

O worms! Black comrades without eye or ear,
Here comes a dead man for you, willing and gay;
Feasting philosophers, sons born of decay,

Come burrow through my ruins, shed not a tear;
But tell me if any torture is left to dread
For this old soulless body, dead as the dead?

of course its best in french but hey- i thought most of you guys would enjoy the english evrsion 😀
