All hell is about to break loose in a sleepy New Jersey town when a sudden violent storm washes in more than the tide. The peaceful existence of a small seaside community will dramatically change forever when Christina Nickson is rescued from the ocean by local lifeguard Jesse Parker and brought to the home of local doctor Ben Kramer.

The Kramers, including Ben's wife, Meg, and daughter, Judy, take an instant liking to Christina and invite her stay with them as she searches for clues to her past and attempts to find her mother, a Point Pleasant native whom Christina never knew. Unbeknownst to Christina, her presence in the town is having a profound effect on its inhabitants - awakening repressed feelings, unlocking secret desires and heightening emotions.

As Christina seeks answers to her mother's disappearance, she will come to realize that she has never known her "real" father either - for Christina is the offspring of a mortal woman and the Devil. While Christina struggles to control the demon inside her (and the powers that come with it), the fight for her soul has begun and the town of POINT PLEASANT has turned into the ultimate battleground of good vs. evil. POINT PLEASANT premieres with the "Pilot" episode Wednesday, Jan. 19 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

I saw a clip for this last night and it looked neat. Kinda creapy but neat. I was going to jump on and look for some spoilers. But you had some Alll ready posted so thnks Buffy. Saved me some time. This shows sounds cool. Prob going to watch it...
 
when I was watching the previews for it I wasn't really paying any attention but I though I heard something about Buffy on there. Did they say something about Buffy on there or was I just hearing things?😀

They said "From the producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and put BTVS across the whole screen . I was so pleased.
 
I knew I wasn't hearing things! Thanks. That's so cool. I just have one problem. I want to watch Point Pleasant but Alias is on at the same time and I always tape Alias so my friend can watch it too. I don't know what to do.

Is it just me or are Fox's commercials for it shows really cheesy? I think it takes away from what might be a good series. I may watch just to see their portrayal of NJians 😀

Noxon Wants Marsters On Point

Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer producer Marti Noxon told SCI FI Wire that she wants to get former Buffy and Angel star James Marsters on her new supernatural Fox series Point Pleasant. "Adam Busch, who was on Buffy as one of the super nerds, has a small role right now," Noxon told reporters at Fox's winter press preview on Jan. 17 in Universal City, Calif. "And I would really love to bring James Marsters [Spike] in at some point. We've been talking to him."

In a separate interview, Noxon said that she took on the job of executive producer of Point Pleasant because she liked the way it incorporated elements of Peyton Place, The O.C., Carrie and The Omen. "It's got all of that and, after the first few episodes, we'll be leaning even a little bit more toward Twin Peaks," Noxon said. "You've got a small town with lots of strange people with secrets, and the main character, Christina [Elisabeth Harnois], has this effect of drawing that out of everybody in this once-sleepy place."

Set in Point Pleasant, N.J., the show centers on Christina, an attractive teen who washes up on the shore of the well-to-do town. She's not just any teen, but rather the daughter of Satan and a mortal woman, and forces both good and evil will battle for her soul. The show also stars Grant Show, Dina Meyer, Sam Page, Brent Weber, Cameron Richardson, Aubrey Dollar, Susan Walters and Richard Burgi.

"Tonally, it's so different from Buffy that I was really eager to take a run at it," Noxon said. "It's hard to see the forest from the trees when you're in it, but I will tell you I always feel like a good indication of how something is going is if you're enjoying writing it. And every time I sit down to write [Point Pleasant] I get carried away by it. It feels like there may be something here." Point Pleasant debuts on Jan. 19 before moving to its regular timeslot Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Did anyone watch this last night? Was it any good? I missed it.
 
I watched it! It was really interesting. It was kind of like Carrie but also with a soap feel to it. There was some hot sex scenes already. There's also the potential for it to get really creepy tonight when we (apparently) get to see more of Grant Show's character.

It is, according to Fox president Gail Berman, "a cross between Peyton Place and Rosemary's Baby." Its intended demographic will likely be more along the lines of "Carrie comes to The O.C."

But the only names that really matter are Marti Noxon and Buffy.

As an executive producer and writer under creator Joss Whedon for six of seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Noxon has considerable chic-geek street cred. Fans were frothing at the mouth at the news of her all-new supernatural series, Point Pleasant, debuting tonight with a second hour tomorrow, settling in to its official timeslot, comfortably ensconced behind The O.C.

Perhaps a bit too comfortably "” judging by these first two episodes, the pretty young people are just too darned pretty, and the creepy stuff not nearly creepy enough, for the new show to be readily embraced by Buffy's discerning genre fans.

But time will tell. There is certainly potential in the concept of the Spawn of Satan (attractively embodied by pouty former child actress Elisabeth Harnois, of One Magic Christmas) unleashed on an idyllic New Jersey beach community.

"The mission in the first three or four episodes," says Noxon, "is to clarify that the character of Christina (Harnois) is as good as she is bad, and that there really is a battle between those sides of her. With Buffy, you had a girl who didn't want her destiny, but her mission was really clear. In this one, you have a character who ... part of her mission is to fight herself, her own, you know, darker impulses and such."

Initially, though, it would seem to be more about the darker impulses of Point Pleasant's attractive, young, invariably swim-suited residents (and their equally, if not more attractive parents), who all seem somewhat inordinately anxious to tear off what little clothes they have on to indulge in lots of soft-focus sex.

"I was in the early stages of pregnancy," blushes Noxon, "and I wasn't getting any. I was throwing up a lot. Life wasn't very sexy, so I think that went on the page. But one of the first thoughts in approaching the project was that the Devil kind of works through desire ... though I think that in the pilot, that may be represented to an excess."

But the best news for Buffy fans is the potential for recycling some of their favourite actors. For example, Adam Busch, who was one of Buffy's "super-nerds," has a small role in an early episode. And Noxon is anxious to reunite with another, more prominent Buffy alum.

"I would really love to bring in James Marsters (Spike) in at some point. We've been talking to him."

Inside Out: The "Buffyverse" is alive and well and living at Fox. Joining Noxon's Point Pleasant on the network's schedule (no airdate yet) is another new show from yet another former Whedon lieutenant, Angel show-runner Tim Minnear, whose credits also include The X-Files, Strange World, Whedon's Firefly and Wonderfalls.

Though something short of demonic, the new show, The Inside, is a very dark series spin on Silence of the Lambs, with Peter Coyote doing Scott Glenn's taciturn FBI guy and newcomer Rachel Nichols (Sex and the City) as a Jodie Foster-esque rookie profiler with an even scarier secret past. Firefly's Adam Baldwin rounds out the team.

"Fox was looking for a procedural," Minnear explains. "They had the star, Rachel, who they all loved, and they were sort of (going) with a 21 Jump Street kind of show. And I wasn't really interested in doing 21 Jump Street. So I suggested something a little darker, something more in keeping with the kinds of things I'm more known for doing.

"In terms of what we're doing, it is not dissimilar, actually. These are heightened situations, people who are fighting very stressful, really epic battles for each other's soul, and to bring justice ... "

Import export: Alberta Watson is the latest Canadian actress to share the screen with fellow frostback Kiefer Sutherland on the returning Fox hit, 24.

"It's been fantastic," says Sutherland. "We've had more Canadians working on our show than there are Americans at the Four Seasons in Toronto working (on shows) up there. So it's one of the great ironies.

"We've actually from the very beginning had a great balance of Canadian actors and American actors and some English actors. That kind of diversity has added to, I think, an international sensibility that the show has."

Sutherland's ties to the motherland remain strong "” particularly now that the recent cross-country poll voted his grandfather, Tommy Douglas, as history's "Greatest Canadian."

"Well, I obviously was thrilled about it," he acknowledges. "For our family. His legacy was health care in Canada "” it's an issue that is still incredibly important."

Butt Of The Joke: Fox also brought in animation icon Seth MacFarlane for a double-bill session to promote the return of his back-from-the-dead cult hit, Family Guy, and his new prime-time 'toon, American Dad, which will debut in the coveted slot after the Super Bowl.

MacFarlane's ongoing relationship with Fox has had its ups and downs "” Family Guy was abruptly cancelled, then won a reprieve based on wildly successful cable reruns and DVD sales ("I believe that changing her mind is indeed a woman's prerogative," shrugs Berman).

Earlier this week, there was a minor controversy over a recent rerun where the network opted to "pixilate" (digitally blur) the image of a naked baby's bum.

"That does seem a little extreme," allows MacFarlane. "I mean, the fact is, everybody has an ass."

"It's also a cartoon ass," adds exec producer David Goodman.

"But it's very easy to place the blame on the network," MacFarlane reasons. "They really are in a very, very difficult position. They're under enormous pressure from the (regulatory) FCC. I mean, the phrase `in this post-Janet Jackson world' is bandied about like they're talking about September 11."

A subject about which MacFarlane has some personal perspective, having come very close to dying in the 2001 attacks.

Nonetheless "” indeed, perhaps largely because of it "” his new cartoon show, American Dad, about the bizarre home life of a gung-ho CIA agent, darkly, hilariously and broadly spoofs the country's current climate of terror paranoia.

"I think it's been, to be honest, a huge overreaction," he says. "Yeah, it was horrifying and it was terrible, but at the same time, you can't let it completely disrupt everything. The world is a much less pleasant place than it was 10 years ago, and I don't think that's essential. I think September 11th has been used as a tool of fear by those in power.

"As far as my own near-miss, the way I look at it is, that's the kind of thing that probably happens to you a hundred times a year, and you don't even know it. You know, you could cross the street five minutes later and something could happen. This was obviously a much bigger deal, but that's my personal take on it."

I thought it was wonderful. Remember everyone, new episode tonight! It was really interesting, but a lot of my friends refused to watch it with me, because they thought it was Satanic. 😵 Sure, the Devil's daughter, but she's just girl who has no idea what's going on. The first episode is a little confusing; they needed to go into more detail with the whole Devil, and mom thing. Hopefully they'll do it in upcoming episodes. For some reason I was sort of tweaked that there wasn't any special effects. Yeah, the whole fire thing, but that's regular stage magic. It was a well-placed story, and everything worked well. I'm a HUGE nit-pick on things. Like when we first see Christina, she's soaking wet. And then suddenly she has perfect, dry hair. And then all the clothes she wears. How does that happen? Judy is noticeably smaller than Christina, and we don't know how tall the dead sister is, but I doubt they'd allow her to where her clothes. I mean she appeared in about four different outfits, as well as a bathing suit. I know she was on a school cruise thing, but all she had with her was a tiny backpack. That's all. Hmmn. Anyway, awesome show, I'm going to keep with it. Hopefully it wont turn out like Tru Calling and end.
 
Christina's outfits are noticably tiny anyways 😀

So far I'm not getting a Jersey vibe off the show though.

Does anyone know if they actually film in Jersey or if they just use random shots of the Jersey shore, but film elsewhere.
 
Hehe.

I'm pretty sure they did shoot in Jersey. I recently went there for about three days over Winter Break and where they shot the episode looked like where I was. the neighborhoods and houses.

Another thing I noticed was a lot of Christian references. Though I don't know a lot about the Bible. But when Christina passes by, people seem to reach to their necks, showing that they're wearing crosses. And when Christina sends the bugs to kill her dad's assistant person, he is in the same pose as Jesus is on crucifixes.
 
I haven't been to Point Pleasant in a while, but from what I remembered it wasn't that nice. It's also in close proximity to Seaside Heights, the Jerry Springer of Beaches 😀
 
I liked it, quite strong for a first episode which is good. I look forward to seeing how things progress.

Funny, that would be the exact reason why most of my friends and i would choose to watch this show! Nothing wrong with a little bit of satanism in a tv show, hehe. Having said that we have all been raised on the morals and beliefs of Ozzy Osbourne so i guess that makes sense! 😀

This airs here in the UK from next Wednesday night so assuming i'm in that night (i usually am home on a Wednesday so the chances are good) i'll be watching to see what i think.

Have to say though, the reviews i've seen don't give me a lot of hope that this will get a full seasons worth of episodes before cancellation hits. It is on Fox after all!

Fox seems to have put a lot of backing behind this and the fact that it is airing in the UK so soon after its premiere is a good thing, as normally as you know we have to wait quite a while, look at Smallville for example, we are only now going to get the current season over here.
 
Can you straighten me out on something?

Isn't there some kind of connection between Fox and the guy who owns Sky One? Is Sky One throughout the Isles or is it just England? Do you get Fox programming quicker over there than programs from other networks?
 
Sky One is a channel that is broadcast through Sky TV (Satellite), also available on some other cable networks. Sky is owend by Rupert Murdock. Normally the US shows are shown on Sky first, many on Sky one but also E4, E4 is a throwoff from C4 (which is on normal tv) and once they air things on E4 they go to C4.

And its E4 that is airing Point Pleasant, they also do Smallville, The O.C, One Tree Hill and ER.

Cable and Sky is available throughout the UK and NI I believe. I used to work for them but that was a long time ago.
 
I missed the first fifteen minutes, but the rest of it was pretty interesting. It may not be the best thing on TV, but it's the only think that I will probably watch because Angel, BtVS and Tru are off the are.
