I just got done watching "I Was Made To Love You" (pretty sure that was the episode title) and hes been taking alot of abuse since...well Season 4...but back then I could see why...but lately he's been helping the Scoobies way more than hurting them. Even though he's got that chip in his head, it's not like he's had to help them at all, but he has. And they're all way unappreciative. You'd think they'd atleast noticed that he'd changed a little.

Anyways, just figured I'd rant a little because I felt sorry for Spike, considering everyone ganged up on him and he really didn't have anyone left who didn't hate him. Plus I hadn't posted on here in awhile so I wanted to post something.

By the way, in "Crush" Spike was able to bite someone when he was with Drusilla. At first I thought she'd helped him beat the chip, but then I read on here that she just hypnotized him? That seems more likely now considering he's still been letting the Scoobies push him around. But just to be sure-does the chip still work? I hate that chip lol...
 
My opinion? It's hard to get anyone to appreciate that you've changed if you've done so many terrible things to them. This is why Xander is never going to be a fan of Spike's, no matter how much he helps him. Same with Giles and Angel...no matter how reformed Angel can be after becoming Angelus, he's never going to reach the level of trust he used to have ever again.

In Season 5, the chip still worked. In Crushed...I only thought he was allowed to feed off that girl because she was already dead. Dru snapped her neck.
 
Spike was still an 'Evil' Vampire. He was helping but his intentions were questionable.

As the 'Insane' one above me points out, it's also hard to forgive and forget the vampires passed misdeeds to the group. Angel was easier because someone in the gang loved him, but Spike, was never even liked.

Having said that, it's not long after 'I was made to Love you' that Spike is taken into the group by Buffy because of how he stood up to Glory and protected Dawn. It was this move that really started to show him as a changed 'man' and that he was willing to do what was right for the right reason.
 
True true, you both make good points. Still, I think they were all a little hard on him (mainly Buffy). I mean, he comforted Buffy when Joyce was first going to the hospital at the end of Fool For Love. Then when she needed a place for Joyce and Dawn to stay, she brought them to Spike. And when Dawn ran off, Spike came with them to find her and helped fight Glory. She even apologized to him for blaming him about Dawn...but then when he tells Buffy he loves her, she flips out on him.

But I'm glad to hear he does get accepted into the group soon.

Oh and thanks for explaining about the chip insane, that makes sense.
 
Buffy, like life, is just complex. She lets him protect her family because logically he is the physically strongest person in her arsenal. She allows him to comfort her because letting her guard down to someone she doesn't consider a real person at the time means that her lapse in strength isn't real.

Lyle, I'm assuming you haven't seen past the 5th season so I don't want to spoil you but many of your questions I think you have will be answered in time.
 
Yea I'm watching Buffy for the first time on FX so I'm still new to this. Thanks for the explanation insane (and for not spoiling anything).

Nice observation. It probably should have been that evident for me as well, but for some reason I always wondered how he was allowed to feed in that episode. Had it truly been mind over matter, perhaps his newfound perception of the chip as a placebo due to Dru's explanation?

But then, why would he return to not being able to feed again afterwards?

But off course, she had already been dead. So even if there was an intent to feed/harm a living creature, it didn't matter because said creature was already dead.

How did I not conclude the same thing?
