Poor Taste In Movies

Taste is subjective. Personally I don't much care if a movie bombed. I have a big problem with comedies, I find. Newer comedies that everyone claims are "so awesome and hilarious" I usually wind up hating. "Napoleon Dynamite" was the last time I trusted outside opinions on comedies. Personally, I have a penchant for late 80s - early 90s comedies,and the ones I happen to enjoy weren't hits. They're definitely cheesy, but I love them.I can name a few movies that I really enjoy, but took a critical beating and really didn't make much money:

1. Madhouse: John Larroquette and Kirstie Alley are downright hilarious in this movie. It's a movie about having houseguests from hell, to sum it up. This is one of my favorite comedies. The late 80s look just adds to it.

2. Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead: This is one I just have to watch whenever I catch it on cable. Christina Applegate is just awesome.

3. Dylan Dog Dead Of Night: I think I was one of maybe five people that saw this in theaters last year. I thought it was a fun B-grade creature feature.

You might be interested in "My best Friend Is A Vampire." I say MIGHT, because it's about the same comedic level as the "...Babysitter..." movie.

I personally lean more towards the action/adventure movies myself, but I see more comedies that I otherwise would, because my wife loves them. The only ones that I can recall actually enjoying recently are "The Wedding Crashers" and "Mr And Mrs Smith."
 
I hated Dylan Dog- we left the theater and I have NEVER done that. Contact is one of my favorite movies but I don't think it was a huge hit & was certainly not Jodie Foster's best role. But I still love it, although the book is even better! (I believe it's Carl Sagan's only novel)

Honestly what really bugs me is things like the Academy Awards. The people & organizations that give out awards like these are incredibly biased and have a very narrow view of what a "good movie" is. You will hardly ever see a comedy nominated (although there are fabulous ones) nor Sci-Fi. Romantic comedies rarely get nods either. Television awards are at least broken down into categories, although Sci-Fi often gets the shaft there too. Think of Battlestar Galactica or the amazing performance of John Noble in Fringe- or hell, any of our beloved Whedon shows!

Growing up, (& maybe still now), I think it was often thought that movies were of a higher art form than TV, but I think that has definitely changed. Or maybe it's just me that has changed lol. All I know is that my Netflix streaming queue has many more tv series than it does movies.

Oh, more movies I love that will never win awards: any of the Meet the Parents/Fockers movies. My husband and I find them hilarious!

I agree. The Academy Awards only seem to give awards to artsy movies these days, it seems. The last time I actually agreed with what won Best Picture was "Titanic."
is Dylan Dog a big thing outside Italy? Cool!
Anyway I don't usually like action/thriller movie. I like a movie when it deals with human emotions with intensity and with original writing 😛 so gimme drama!!! 😀
 
I absolutely love "White Chicks," a movie with a terrible 12% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

And I love "Troll 2," known as the worst movie in the history of mankind by every major critic (BTW, there are no trolls in the movie, and one of the stars went back to the mental institution after each work day). But seriously, how can you hate this:

I don't like American, over hyped, over budget and over acted movies at all so this just makes me feel a little bit smug. For all the successes that come from that formula, it's nice to see some fails.

I don't have perfect taste in movies, but I definitely think my taste in movies is better than most. If there is a terrible film that I enjoy watching I do not insist that the movie is a masterpiece. Taste is not subjective. There is only so much that you can blame on taste. Some things are simply good or bad, right or wrong. People that can not even see when a movie is a rubbish are simply wrong.
 
I can't say I'm to surprised by the list of flops; although I don't think the amount of money a movie brings in is any indicator of how good or bad a film truly is.

I have a soft spot for Channing Tatum and Jen Aniston flicks. A lot of the movies these actors star in are mediocre, but they are my guilty pleasures.
