Shes the only one on the list that I feel even deserves consideration for the list.

I wouldn't have thought of Alyson Hannigan before seeing this thread, but it fits. She doesn't cry that much, but literally every time she does that I can think of it's powerful and it really means something. It enhances the emotion of a scene big time and makes it really stand out. I mean, when Jenny dies, when Oz leaves, when Tara dies and when she collapses into Xander's arms in "Grave" (such an awesome episode) are all incredibly moving scenes that stay with you. I can vividly remember each of the, and the way Willow breaks down each time is a huge part of it.

I actually think SMG deserves to be on that list as well. I know some don't like her crying, but I find that she's by far the best at evoking emotion and sympathy out of the viewer when she cries. Every time she wells up I just live and die with her.

I've never not bought Aly's crying...it makes me sad every single time. Even when I found Willow annoying, it would still make me sad. I remember watching the Wild At Heart commentary and someone was saying that everyone kept asking her if she was okay after the scene when she catches Oz with Veruca and she was like, "Guys I'm fine, it's called acting." haha

I think Alyson is definitely one of the best criers. How I Met Your Mother isn't really a sad show, but when (season 6 spoiler!)

she told Marshall that his dad had died,

it was the most painful moment of the whole show, mostly because of Alyson's performance.

Alyson is definitely deserving of the title... I just wish she had landed number 1! I seem to recall reading or hearing on a commentary that Joss Whedon said that when Alyson or Willow cries - everyone cries with her. So very true.

Also agree with [MENTION=10438]JCoatsworth[/MENTION] - that scene from HIMYM is incredibly heart wrenching and such a solid reminder of what a quality actress she is. She delivers excellent comedy but is capable of so much more!

Yeah, I agree. Aly is an excellent cryer. Always preferred her over SMG on BtVS.
Not a big fan of her fake cries, done for laughter, on HIMYM though. But that's a whole different thing.

Another one that I think does a great sad face and should have been on that list, imho, is Jennifer Garner.

SMG's crying gets me every time. Prophecy Girl, in particular, kills me when she over hears the prophecy.

Oh she deserves that totally... I've NEVER not cried when she cried. In the scene in Passion where Jenny dies and you see Buffy find out, then Willow, I literally began SOBBING when Aly did. Hadn't shed one tear before that over Jenny, but Aly crying completely broke me. I read somewhere that Joss mentioned that whenever he wanted his viewers to cry, he'd just have Aly turn on the tears. And in his commentary on The Body, he mentions that the scene between Willow and Tara is one of the hardest for him to watch, because he finds it so hard to watch Aly cry.
She's definitely got a way with people's emotions... How I Met Your Mother, American Pie, Buffy... doesn't matter what I'm watching her in. She cries, I cry. One of the most seriously underrated actresses in Hollywood.

@JCoatsworth agrees: Yes, I think she should do some drama stuff after the final HIMYM season.

From what I have heard it will be the last season of HIMYM so hopefully she does manage to find some decent work. Ideally I would like Alyson to step away from comedy for a little while now and show us some more drama, even if that happens to be with another TV series.

I have to disagree with this. I feel that SMG is a much better crier than Aly. Why do I feel this way? I feel this way because I always cry along with SMG when I see her [character] cry.
