Possible Storylines

Many times in Buffy, things were originally supposed to happen that never did. For example, In Bad Girls, Buffy went to talk to Faith in her motel at the end and in the original shooting script she found Faith dead having hung herself. And Wesley was originally supposed to have been killed by Faith sometime in the 3rd season. Anya was supposed to be only in 2 episodes.

I was just wondering: a) If anyone knows of any other stories that weren't used, and b) how would you have felt if they had happened?
 
I know that Joss likes to kill characters and that probably all characters would have died sooner or later if he would have gone on a killing spree. But thank Joss he didn't...

I recall that Anya was supposed to die in 'the gift' but other than that and the deaths you mention, I don't remember.
As for all these characters that were supposed to die, it's a good thing they didn't. What would btvs be without Anya? Or what would angel be without Wes? And what would I be without Faith? These are questions that I rather leave unanswered. Just the tought of not having them around is too scary...
 
Xander was supposed to die in "Chosen" but Joss wanted Buffy to be happy in the last shot.

Angel was supposed to tell Buffy he was in love with Cordy and had a son in "Chosen"

Spike was supposed to be in like 3 episodes then be killed.

The Buffy/Angel love theme wasn't supposed to be used ever again when Angel left for his series.

Angel was supposed to be in Buffy's dreams in "Restless" instead of Tara. He was supposed to be the one to say "You think you know what's to come? You haven't even begun. Be home before Dawn." but DB was doing work for his own show and couldn't do it.

Miss Calendar was supposed to be pushing the baby stroller in Giles' dream with Olivia sitting in Spike's crypt crying.

Angel and Cordelia were going to fight to the death in season 4 but Charisma's pregnancy complications prevented her from doing anything physical which also altered the plot.

Joss wanted Tara to come back to life in season 7 but Amber Benson didn't want to do that.
 
The original idea for Buffy's eighteenth birthday was for Buffy to have been drugged and hallucinate that all her friends and family had been turned into vampires. Called 'Eighteen', it was deemed redundant after the events in 'The Wish' and became the episode 'Helpless' as we know it.

Other storylines wouild have had a real or imagined monster making Buffy fat (thus exploring young women's anxieties about their bodies), a school psychologost that analyzed studetns with a spider that crawled inside their heads, Buffy literally stealing Xaner's happiness and Xander aging on the the job.
 
this is in response to the 'tara' response posted above.
yes, tara was supposed to come back in season 7, but there were two possiblities.
a) three eps before the finale, buffy was to be given a wish. one life altering wish with which she could do anything. she spends the whole ep trying to decide what to wish for. in the final 5 minutes, buffy comes to wilow and says, 'do you like my new shoes?' willow is horrifed, thinking that buffy used her wish for shoes.
buffy replies, 'no, silly. what kind of a moron do you think i am?' she then leaves the room and willow turns around to find tara standing behind her. buffy used her wish to bring tara back from the dead.
however, amber benson wasn't avialable that late in the season. but joss wanted one of the original characters to be in a happy realationship when the credits rolled for the final time, which is why he created kennedy, because he knew spike and anya were going to die.
b) but joss decided he wanted tara back anyway, and wrote the scene in 'conversations with dead people' where willow is in the library talking to cassie. cassie was originally supposed to be tara, but amber thought it was wrong for her character to return evil. she thought it would upset the fans too much, so she turned the part down. which is why cassie is there instead.
 
Wow. BtVS would have been so different! I'm glad those things didn't happen, especially Faith hanging herself. That would be the first suicide on Buffy, wouldn't it? I think that's just way too depressing. I'm glad Joss changed his mind.
 
yes, princess, it would have been the first suicide on buffy, i think. but i think the firs suicide came inS7, when chloe hanged herself in the bathroom. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.
 
I heard that Xander was supposed to be Glory's vessal in the fifth season and also die at the end by the hands of Giles. Correct me if I'm wrong.
 
during S5, there was a few problems. someone 'lost' one of the scripts, the actual finished script. joss was worried about it getting onto the internet and everyone finding out what he ahd planned, so he rewrote the last 15mins.
it's rumored that the original ending had dawn dying instead of buffy. it was pretty much the same thing, only dawn jumping into the protal and buffy watching on the tower.
anya was also supposed to die, but the events leading up to that point are very unclear.
 
Amber Benson has been quoted saying that she never returned to Buffy after her death because she wanted her character's memory to remain pure.

Joss had said on the Season 5 or 6 DVD that Anya was supposed to die in the Gift but she wouldn't remain still. I think he was joking though about the reason why 🙂
 
All these stoires lines are evil, apart from the return of tara, im so glad none of them occurred lol
 
Wow. This is a great thread. Interesting stuff. I knew about Spike supposed to be in only a few episodes but other than that I hadn't heard any of it. Thanks for sharing guys.

I thought that was the reason she didn't want to come back as the First in "Conversations With Dead People". She said that she couldn't bear for Tara to be bad as she thought that would destroy the fans (kinda like the way Robia La Morte was thrilled to reprise the role of Jenny in "Amends" but was disappointed the character was an evil spirit i.e. the First).

yes, this is one of the reasons amber didn't want to come back. the other was that she wasn't available for later in the season, (see my post above for details) but joss wanted tara back in some shape or form, so he wrote the scene in 'conversations' with willow at the library. cassie was supposed to be tara, but amber though it was disrespectful to tara's memory and to the fans of the show to bring tara back as an evil spirit, because tara was such a good and kind person in life. so amber declined.
