Apology time...

I may have unwittingly sent out an infected e-mail via my Hotmail account. I know that some of you guys are on my contacts list, so rather than e-mail or PM everyone separately I thought I'd say sorry here.

If you received something from bri_richardson that looks like this...

Hi! How are you?
You know I've created my own website!
Can you check how it works?
It's http://*************
Can you see video?
Bye!

...it was not sent by me. The subject is "Help" btw.

I have thoroughly virus-checked my PCs at home and found nothing untoward, so I suspect that something got into my MSN or Hotmail contact list and hi-jacked it at around midnight on 30th April. Whatever it is does not appear to have a lasting effect but I would suggest that you make sure your online security is up-to-date and run a check for any nasties.

If anyone who has more experience of this sort of thing knows what it could be can you let me know please?

Again - I'm very Sorry :embaresse

edit - I've just been through my contacts list and BBers that may have got this are -
Faldor
Faith
Xander
edb
Soulgasm
Buffy Summers

Yeah, I've received this email twice now, first time from another friend, second time from you - so I knew what it was when it arrived this time - first time round, I clicked on the link, thankfully my spyware blocked the video, but from the audio, I gather it was some kind of porn. But, both AOL & Gmail let it through. I meant to email you to let you know, but got distracted by the kids & forgot. 🙁 But no worries, it's one of those things unfotunately.

I don't actually have a hotmail account, as I use another email address for MSN, and as far as I am aware, I haven't been infected with it, think my Norton has keep me safe thus far. I just deleted all traces of the email, run Norton, and it didn't pick anything up, so fingers crossed. Maybe it is a 'virus' that only works via something like Hotmail, as both yours, and the other persons email accounts were Hotmail ones.

I'm not sure what you can do to prevent it though....sorry

Mike had this happen to him and a lot of his contacts clicked the link. Luckily he doesn't use hotmail all that often so he just stopped using it and got everyone to use a different address for him. Probably not that simple for you though... right?

Sorry couldn't be more helpful. And "check" no clicky the link!
