I'm just wondering... after Chosen, how and when are new slayers called... I mean... everybody who's a potential will be a Slayer, but does that mean people can be born as a Slayer... how does this work?!

I'm pretty sure only those who were potentials when Willow did that spell turned into slayers. There's still a "real" slayer that carries the line and those potentials who are born after Chosen, won't be slayers until they're called (until the slayer-line Slayer dies).. At least that's how I always thought it was..

If I remember correctly (and I do hope I do otherwise I'll have to re-read Fray #4, again) no one was called after Faith. If we assume that the slayer line went through Buffy at the end of season 7 (please please dont start arguing about that again 😛), it means that Buffy was the last slayer to be "active" until Fray was called. As it says in Fray, "The line continued - there were girls with the power but they were never called, never trained".
So uhm, I guess you could be born a slayer? Wasnt Buffy born with her powers or did they just come to her all of the sudden? (Pardon me if that was a stupid question)

It may be about that time for another one of THOSE threads :) Mwa ha haha
Didn't Buffy clearly stated that the Shadow-men created the rule of one slayer and that Willow would change that rule?!? It is my understanding that this new situation is there to stay and that the effect won't "wear off."

I am pretty sure that the rule is changed and that girls are now being born Slayers, Not just the potentials that were around at the time were activated but every girl after that, even the ones not born yet will be when they are born, If you look at Buffys Chosen Speech :

Buffy: From now on, every girl in the world who might be a slayer...

The fact that she says FROM NOW ON, implies that it will carry on.

and about the Fray issue, that was written before Chosen, so joss probably did not realise he would activate all the potentials.

Well, still there may be some reason for the Slayer-activation to be undone or something alike it... generally, Fray IS considered cannonical to a certain extent.

Anyhow... can you imagine a baby with Slayer-strenght? I personally can't... maybe it slowly grows on them... like they will be a bit stronger, but their abilities won't reach full power until age 16 or something like that.

Oh yeah I totally agree with you that eventually something happened to undo willows spell. but I am saying that The spell, I think, was permanent until something changed it.

Hehe it would be so funny if they were activated in the womb, the baby kicking would not be a good thing, lol.

I have to disagree on that. If I know my Joss right, he probably had been musing on activating some/all potentials when he wrote Fray. At least there's nothing in Fray that contradicts to what happened in BtVS season 7.

I don't agree with the theory that girls are being born Chosen. Because that would mean there would be more than one slayer in Fray-time.

I think that it just applies to the potentials in Chosen. Most likely you had to be a certain age to be activated; kind of like how you have to be a certain age to be chosen.

But we see a girl of 9/10 being activated in Chosen so who knows what age u can be chosen at.

I certainly agree that it should work like this but as we see on Angel, not all the post-Chosen slayers are suitable to be slayers.. That girl that Navi Rawat played sure wasn't... So that might mean too young girls became slayers as well, since the spell probably included all potentials...

Yes, too young potentials surely can be activated, but I don't think they are born that way. I mean no 2 year old has ever been called to be a slayer so far (as far as we know..) so for a potential to become a slayer she has to be not too young, and I think that would be what would happen after chosen too. . Okey, that was confusing in my head too, lol. And it still doesn't explain the Fray thing.. hm

The reason y there has never been a 2 y old slayer is because there has always been enough Slayers, hundreds/thousands per generation. But if the First had succeeded its plan and killed all the potentials except a 2yr old one and then it killed Buffy the 2yr old one would have been activated because there was nowhere else for the power 2 go. Remember there was a 9 or 10 yr old slayer activated by Willows spell, we had only ever seen slayers activated at around age 16/17, so we have no idea how young u have to be 2 be activated.

true, true!
ok, here's my take on this.
when willow cast the spell, she turned every potential in the world into a slayer, creating hundreds of slayers, maybe more.
but that was it. no girls will be born as slayers, the ones who were activated in 'chosen' are the slayers. in my opinion, when the spell was cast, the line was broken. killing a slayer now will no longer activate another slayer, nor will anymore slayers be born.
in this theory, when all the slayers created by the spell are killed or die through natural causes, there will be no more slayers. which is why Fray is the ONLY slayer in her time.

But in Fray we know that other Girls were activated as the Slayer, but they were never called to do the job of a Slayer.

ok then, maybe whoever was the last slayer activated at the time of willow's spell, whether she was a baby or not, called the next slayer when she died. but since there was no watcher's council, there was no one to train her. we know that vampires and demons became extinct before fray was called (right? i've never read it) so there was no real reason for there to be a slayer. but when the vampires came back, someone obviously realized they needed a slayer, and they tracked fray down.

I still stand by the fact that Buffy said "from now on" which, to me implies to me forever.

ok, if that's the case why is it that only fray knows about her destiny in that time? if the vamps are back out in force, then wouldn't it be better to have more than one slayer to fight them? if, after willow's spell, girls are now born as slayers, there would be more than fray in that time.
