Posting on forums.

Just been thinking about this subject and I have a few questions for you!

What makes you post on a forum? (not why you pick a forum/s but what makes you create a post?

What holds you back from posting?

Do you ever get sucked into arguments on forums? Do you ever regret the arguments?

Do you pay attention to your post count? For example you might only post in forums with a post count.

For me, I think sometimes if I'm honest it might be boredom and my little mind wanders off and I feel I want to share or see if others think the same. Other times it's a different point of view on a subject that catches my attention just because it is different from the normal questions/subjects/threads.

A lot holds me back believe it or not. Mainly because I've had that discussion a thousand times before and I'm bored of it. Other times a post might get me so riled up I don't want to get involved.

I try my best not to. But every now and then yes I do try to state my point of view as calmly as I can (although I don't always succeed). I think that's only being human imo. Yes I always regret being sucked in and know I should have just kept quiet as I don't like being slammed for my opinion on certain delicate matters.

Not really. I don't care if a forum has a posting that counts situation, I post when I want to. Probably why I have a low post count lol.

That's a good question. I'm not sure actually.
I'm more interested in hearing other people views than expressing mine.
At times a question pops up when you see something so you ask. Besides that I guess it's mostly a way to relax and pass some time.

What holds you back from posting?

Usually lack of time and lack of skill to articulate what I really want to say. (especially in English)
I also often find myself not having an opinion lol. Writing I don't care isn't much point so I just skip it instead.

Can't remember that I ever being sucked into an argument. I usually drop it before it goes so far.
Arguing just isn't funny. I have better things to do.

I can check it out, notice if I've reach a milestone and such...
But it doesn't matter. Have never seen it as a competition.
Wouldn't mind if it was removed here. I would still visit and post on occasion. 🙂

Well you see I can be a bit cocky and I can't help but put my opinion out there 😛 Just one of the con of being a scientist, I love debates, whether that be a good thing or not. So yes, once or twice it probably got me into a bit of a pickle, but because as a whole this is a board about a show that I love, I love hearing other's opinions just as much as I like putting my opinion out there. Because really there's no right and wrong, it's more on topics outside of the B-verse that I would tend to enter an argument.

As far as what prevents me from posting, I usually will stop posting if things get too heated, I don't want to just have an emotional response and lose my cool, so it's better to withdraw. And then there's topics I'm just not interested in discussing anymore, like Bangel and Spuffy, you'll rarely see me post in those.

As far as post count, I think it's fun seeing how much I've posted (probably far too much 😛), but I don't care about the number. I'll post wherever, as long as it interest me.

Two main reasons come to mind. The main is when I'm browsing here and a post catches my eye and I feel like joining in. After that it's if I have a question and want some expert opinions.

What holds you back from posting?

Lots of factors. Time and place mainly. I'm on here when bored at work or lounging at night. If I've got other things on then this takes a back seat. Other than that it's just mood dependant, some times I just don't find many topics of interest and other times there's loads I want to say.

I don't get sucked into anything. If I want to argue with someone on here I will and if I get tired of it I'll stop. I can't think of anything I've posted that I regret. Doesn't mean I think I'm always right but I don't go out to offend anyone and I can only remember finding two posters unpleasant in the time I've been here.

Should be said that I'm making a distinction between arguing and debating. I thoroughly enjoy a good debate with someone putting forward strong opinions that go against what I'm saying.

I didn't pay much attention but I noticed it was getting close to 1000 and then was happy to cross the milestone. Wouldn't make any difference if it was removed though.

WHAT MAKES YOU POST?
If I want to, if I like the subject, or if I think of something funny to add be it on topic or not. A prime example is the thread called Aerial Photography by Mr. Pole, the reply by little Gwennie-Poohs was a picture of a television aerial, I couldn't resist making a comment which was nothing to do with the aerial itself or about taking photographs from a plane. If I know my post is completely off topic I will usually start the post Warning off topic.

WHAT HOLDS YOU BACK FROM POSTING?
I always write what the reply is to be then read through it again to weed out the mistake I see, maybe that should read the mistakes I see. Also to remove what content might offend the initial poster or those who might read the post.

DO YOU EVER GET SUCKED INTO ARGUMENT ON FORUMS?
I probably have, I may have started one or three. When I realise what is happening I'll call a halt to it, stop posting or apologise to the member(s) concerned. On occasion I have asked our wonderful leader to close the thread (I'm not above sucking up to folk). If I think the subject will lead to an argument I'll probably avoid the subject unless it is with a member who is a nice person and won't take offence (refer to the sucking up comment) and/or accepts an apology gracefully.

DO YOU PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR POST COUNT?
No, it is a complete and utter waste of time. On several occasions my count has gone to zero, so now I ignore post counts.

WHAT MAKES YOU POST?
Normally if I have strong view either way, or if I have something to add which I feel someone has not already covered. In terms of starting a new thread it will be based on something which just occured to me, or which I think could be fun or stir up a good debate.

Just if the subject doesn't interest me much, or I feel like its been covered and I have nothing good to add.

Yes, partly because I'm an opinionted guy, and partly because I don't like bullies or people who use perfectly good forums for negative things. Also, sometimes people mis-understand me such as my humour. But I am getting better at letting things slide.
