Potential slayers, blah blah blah!

So, as Im watching season 7 again, Im pretty much deciding that I dont like ANY of the potential Slayers. Not even Kennedy (or especially not?) who has the biggest part in the potentials story line. Or no, maybe that one with the fake southern accent...she might be a smidge more irritating, no?

Theyre whiny and presumptious and annoying and i dont like the lot of 'em!

Anyone else have differing opinions or similar thoughts??

I agree, and if there are any Kennedy fans please prove me wrong...
But I think the girls were developed to be this way the same way they developed Dawn...1) the writers might not think that teenage girls are that annoying.
But also remember Buffy before she was called...probably not someone we would love.
But yes I agree all of them were quiet annoying...esp Kenned, Molly, and the one from Sunnydale who had the weird face!

Awww, poor Amanda! She is probably the only one I could half way stand actually... and the japanese girl just cause she was funny... "There is a girl in the backyard doing gymnastics." hee 🙂

Being potential Slayer must be hard. And for some of them (Kennedy) it's giving them more for their ego, being a slayer, superior. Some think they can say whatever they want (Rhona). Some are whiny about being chosen (Buffy). And in the end, they're just annoying. Especially Kennedy. Molly I didn't mind, nor Amanda. But the others... arghh!

I loved Vi and Amanda but the others were all generally annoying. When we first saw season 7 my friend Rhona got excited that there was a character with the same name as her, until I pointed how annoying and moany Rona on the show is!:biggrin:

I love Vi and Amanda too!! Vi is lovely and Amanda is sweet too - I love it when she keeps going on about the model UN parliamentary procedure when they are trying to work out how to make the group work without Buffy. Rona is the one i can't stand!

Well, I join the Vi love, she was pretty cool, and I also liked Molly. Other than that...I didn't really care much for the other potentials...meaning, they never really bothered me that much. The only one I really passionately hate is Annabelle...she was just so aaarrghhh with her whole attitude. Also, Eve sucked but I guess that's not her fault since it was the First pulling the strings there.

Yeah, the only ones I could stand were Vi and the Chinese girl. Amanda was just okay, though she had her annoying moments. The rest were awful, especially Kennedy (but I admit, although I still would have hated her, she wouldn't have been QUITE as bad if she hadn't gotten into that absolutely atrocious "relationship" with Willow), Rona, and Annabelle (it wasn't the character, though. It was the British accent. I don't know if it was fake or not, but either way, it sounded so ridiculous and grating.)

I think the main problem with them was that, after a couple of episodes, they completely took over the show. Usually, the "annoying" characters weren't like that. In season 5, when Dawn first joined and had the "obnoxious, whiny teenager" role, the show still centered around the core Scoobies and everyone had their own little plot to keep us distracted from Dawn. Even in season 6, when Buffy had her occasional annoying moments, the other characters were there to make up for it. But in season 7, it was all about the Potentials. I know, it's probably because there were just so many of them, but we barely got to see any of the characters we had grown to know and love. Instead, we got a bunch of whiny teenage girls that were way worse than season 5 Dawn not only as a group, but, in most cases, individually. If there had been more character subplots, I know it would have been much better.

I didn't mind Kennedy so much the first watch-through, but on subsequent viewings - I hate her.

I think there were too many of them with too much screen time.

My hate for Kennedy has nothing to do with Willow. (I don't care who Willow is with as long as it's not with Kennedy) It's her attitude, she's a control freak and it's obvious she wants to take over Buffy. She lets herself say things nobody likes, the way she talks to Buffy for example. She was convinced she would be the next Slayer.

Vi..... and um pretty much Vi, i likded Kennedy as a rushed change for willow, but there shouldnt have had to be anyone else for Willow really... who made the decision for them to get together... sure Kennedy could have been after Willow but there shouldnt have been an actual relationship...

the little one from Lizzie Maguire or whatever TTFN was okay and Amanda was good...

oh and the Lactose intolerant one... that Giles took shopping.

I think that crazy flakes is completely right... the whiny potentials started to take over the season. They could have shown more of their training and less of their complaining! AND they could have explored more with the Caleb story line, instead of the sub par potentials.

The potentials annoyed me because they were both whiny and just so lame. I found the idea interested but the characters were so blah. I have to admit that I did like Amanda a little bit. Quick question for the board, I noticed that everyone pretty much hates Wennedy and I did not find their relationship that terrible. Am I missing something imperative? Why all the hate?

I love how most of the response on this thread is totally unanimous in disliking the potentials of Season 7. Personally, I love when the fiction I enjoy provokes reaction from me. (If you're wondering, yes, I also got really sick of them. The whiny makes me want to pull my hair out.)

Realistically, though, we should all have gotten sick of them. There's something like 15 women living in a house together - and 5 to a room, unless Willow and Kennedy get a lucky night together. In real life, they'd all be completely sick of each other within 3 days. I don't know if the writers did it on purpose, but I felt closer to the "reality" of their lives, seeing it written and directed with so much time focused on the group. They are all stuck with each other 24/7, so we get stuck with them a lot more than we'd like when watching the show.

I think this effect on the viewers was desired.

However, I also agree that it would have been cooler to watch more training and less arguing. But I think the arguing and Buffy's eventual eviction serve to prove again the unique aspect of her calling. Seems like they wanted to show her as "alone" one more time before calling the rest of the Slayers?

p.s. I agree completely about Kennedy. I don't know why, but she just can't stand up to Oz and Tara.

none of the potentials particularly stood out to me, but i didn't mind amanda and i didn't mind kennedy (sometimes). i could not stand rhona. kennedy was right, she is a spoiled brat, but i still think her character was interesting and i think it was interesting for willow to have someone so completely different from the relationships she'd had before. and everyone keeps saying, she can't compare to oz and tara--and she can't--but that wasn't the point. joss has said that he had her go after willow because she was so completely different from tara. he didn't want to hurt tara's memory, and you couldn't get anyone more different than kennedy. i think kennedy was interesting in terms of willow development.

I loved Amanda, the one from Sunnydale... All the others got on my nerves, ESPECIALLY Kennedy and Rona. Blech!

And we also know Kennedy was a spoiled kid with the "wings" in her house and what not, which i think just added to her stuck up nature and made us hate her more.

I really didn't care for any of them, nor did i care when any of them died. There was no emotional connection in anyway. I cared more when Ford died in season...2 was it? (and then came back and Buffy had to dust him) and he was only in one entire episode.
