I've been rereading Wolves at the Gate, and I can't describe how wonderful this arc is.
The panels with Renee's death were so strong, and left me tearing up a bit. I keep wondering how it would have played if S8 was filmed, would it be as strong and emotional or would it have become cheesy?
The other moment that twisted my heart a little was Buffy watching Xander killing Toru, her expression filled with sadness and concern for him. Then she leaves the battle for Satsu and the others to finish as she walks, while giving orders, towards Xander. He notices her coming to him, and then breaks down in her arms and she hugs him to her.
If I'd believe that Buffy loves and cares about Xander it's this scene. Usually it's Xander who gives Buffy emotional support and we rarely see Buffy do the same to Xander, so it was a wonderful moment to have her there for him instead of the opposite.
Tell me about your most powerful/emotional moments in S8.
