Preferences over villains

I prefer villains in Angel rather than Buffy.

I don’t hate the Master (cliche but good) or Glorificus(she is my favorite but she is one-dimensional) and I think ADAM was a fine mid-season replacement after Walsh’s actress left even He had no personalty and The First was a interesting concept but It been written poorly.

But of all the villains on Buffy, only The Mayor is on the same level as Lilah Morgan, Lindsey McDonald, Holland Manners,Daniel Holtz, Sahjan,Darla/Drusilla team,Marcus Hamilton,Cyvus Vail vs vs - I mean, even Gavin Freaking Park was more entertaining and just fun villian than most major Buffy villians.


I am not saying I hate Buffy villians.I enjoyed to watch villians I said above but All of them are just not interesting and one dimensional.Thats just my opinion.

I agree in one sense; Wolfram & Hart. The choice to keep them as an underlining antagonist throughout all five seasons was a brilliant move and I love it more with each rewatch. But as far as standalone Big Bads go, I prefer Buffy's (Glory, Angelus and Drusilla and Spike, Mayor Wilkins) to Angel's.

Buffy and Angel are fundamentally very different shows. I think AtS Season 2 demonstrates this perfectly when Holland Manners shows Angel true evil...and it's just the normal world, not a metaphysical entity like The First.

Buffy is a show about young people - Good vs. Evil. Angel is about older people and our hero himself is caught in between Good and Evil just by his very existence.

This isn't to say Buffy's villains lack depth but the conflict is so much simpler than, say, Holtz's quest for vengeance.

Personally I like the variety in Buffy more, but I think Angel has a strong central villain.

It’s ultimately a trade-off. You either get a show with seasonal standalone villains that are varied and interesting or you get a show with an overarching villainous organization over several seasons.
