Pregnant Vampires

Darla's "condition" got me to wondering: I know that under normal circumstances a vampire can't become pregnant, but what about a woman who was pregnant BEFORE she was turned? I'm not talking about a Blade/Daywalker type thing, I'm thinking more along the lines of, would the fetus spontaneously abort because a normal vampire female wouldn't be able to support its growth, or would it continue to develop?

As gross as this is about to sound, I think it's neither. What happens normally when a pregnant woman dies? The fetus dies, too (unless there's some doctors on hand to get it out of her really quick), but it doesn't abort. It just sits there. Dead. Did I mention this was going to sound gross? Anyway, I think the baby would probably die unless the vamp-virus or whatever can be passed from mother to child.

Well, the only reason that Connor could live in Darla's dead womb was because Angel had earned her that life from the Butler guy. So, I would think, the baby, sharing the mother's blood, would be vamped, but it wouldn't age or develop. Which is quite the horrible thought actually.

Vampires are capable of cellular regeneration (creating new cells) and Darla was feeding regularly on fresh blood, as pure as she could find.

TPTB placed mystical protection on Connor since Darla could not physically harm him, the magics would have provided whatever her body could not to allow him to grow normally.

Her pregnancy was mystical therefore not entirely her effort, a real woman who was pregnant would miscarriage on being sired, the body would then heal.

Vampires cannot be pregnant by their own means, Dhampirs are when male Vampires impregnate Human woman with whatever remaining cells are left to allow them to do so for a short time after siring.

By regular vamp rules, yes, it would stay the same age forever. Which is sad. But it would be a baby from hell with fangs, and I think breastfeeding would definately be out. If it happened on the show though, I'm sure they'd come up with a little Deus ex Machina to turn it into an angsty teenger. They always do.

i remember a movie i saw as a kid about some family of vampires and there was like a 6 year old vamp.. but he was like waaaay old really. it was really sad. plus thinking that one of them killed a little boy and turned him (much like interview with the vampire) only not as good a movie... at all.

I've read afew different takes on vampires and all are alittle different, the only happy one for the child was a weird story where the babe was born alive, with both human and vampire blood in it, but when the baby grew older and eventually died (in the stories case- not old age) it was *snap* instant vampire. The basic rule was with that story, your heart had to stop before the vampire side switched on.

The entire time the kid was mortal, though, it had no super strength or anything like that, just a run of the mill person.

I'm pretty sure this is not right with Joss view of them and not a good answer to your question, but I thought I'd throw it out there :: vampire

But still, let's just hope we never have to find out ... it could be creepy.
Personally, I'm unsure what would happen. One the one hand, an unborn child is connected to the mother, so, whatever runs through the mother will also hit the child eventually, but on the other hand, they explained you have to be close to dying to be turned, and if the child has a seperate heartbeat I don't know how that would work out. If the mother was turned, the child would probably die too at some point, but how much later after turning? Also, I think it might depend on how far along the mother is. If t's like the 3rd month of pregnancy you probably can't see the baby as a seperate life yet, whereas shorty before birth would be a completely different scenario.
