Presidential elections, why is voting on a Tuesday?

Early exit polls:

Eighty-five percent of voters said they "just want it to be over"
Fifty-three percent said they were "angry" about the election
50 percent described themselves as feeling "sad" after voting

Fewer than two-in-10 said they were excited or happy about the election.

No, you said "certainly not while the majority still vote on that day" and that is only because the majority opt not to vote sooner. They could vote sooner if they wanted to, or if they were actually informed that they could.
 
Could and Do are different things.

As long as the majority vote on that day (whether they have to or not) makes it the official election day in my opinion 😀

And actually, you QUOTED me saying "many of whom have no option but to do so" and then went on to reply that they are in the minority. So as I said... I never said they were in the majority, I just said many. Try to keep track! 😉

Anyway. Who cares? It's all subjective. IMO it's the official election day. Obviously I'm not gonna change my mind on that. So let's move on.

I care. Because a vast amount of the population are ignorant to the fact they can indeed vote early and every four years you hear people whine about not being able to get off work and make it to their polling station and vote on time. You constantly hear about stations closing while people are still in line and their being turned away because the polls MUST close at a certain time regardless of who and how many are in line.

Just like the ignorant people that say if you vote for a third party you are wasting your vote. No, you are not wasting your vote. Depending on the number of votes a party gets the federal government allows more funding in the next election. So all these people that don't want to vote for Clinton or Trump but think "I'll just vote for the lesser of two evils" if they would actually vote for a third party that third party has more funding for the next election and could make a difference.

Too many people look at "how it's always been" and accept it, rather than actually doing something to change the system.
 
Let me rephrase it another way. I don't care.

I care enough to believe that Tuesday is, and should still be called, the official voting/election day.

But I don't care about all the other "arguments" you're putting forward because you're not contradicting anything I say or believe. I've already stated I agree with early voting and think it's a good thing, so whatever you're arguing against, it's not me.

I can't argue with you about the number of ingnorant people, because they're probably the majority...but this should be a fairly easy fix. If polls were open 24hrs then just about anyone would be able to make it at some point even if they do work long hours with a commute. Hell, they wouldn't even need to be 24hrs...they could just be a standard 5am-10 or 11pm. Those extra hours would almost eliminate the work excuse.

My sister applied for a vote by mail ballot well before the deadline but didn't receive it (in fairness I suppose it could come in the mail today) so she is stuck voting with a provisional ballot. That's lame, they should be on top of things enough to at minimum be able to honor the deadline they gave. (Yeah, this is a CA problem...but I wouldn't be surprised if other states deal with the same thing)

I thought if you were in line by the time the polls close they had to let you vote? Maybe that's a CA law?

People don't know that though. They think if they don't vote before the polls close then they cant vote. All the time they complain about waiting in line and missing it. You watch, I promise you that you will hear people saying they were waiting in line with the polls closed and didnt get to vote. It happens all the time.

considering the all the anti-American stuff the Bush family did. Trump not getting his vote is a good thing.
 
Now that would have been fun, did you hear about the Australian elections? That people could vote by the internet, tee hee The government run website got hacked, laugh? I almost cried. I thought it obvious that would happen, it's like putting a gallon of oil at the start of a drag strip, someone is bound to try and spin their wheels.
I must admit though, the elections did become an enjoyable thing to watch.
