Problem with the Edit Button

Jenny - yeah, I know.. It's just just, sometimes I'm very tired when I write something.. And later I realize it was stupid and I don't want it there for everyone and myself to read..

I do it too, but instead of editing I just make another post correcting what i've said.

Thanks for discussing this point in a mature manner epo 🙂 You rock.

Why wouldn't you contact a mod in that situation? And if enough time has passed, wouldn't people have already read your post?

I've been trying so hard to stop myself from offering my opinions here.

It's one of those, "stop me, before I post again situations". 🙂

Sorry, but here it is...

I'm N4H, and I am an editoholic.

I'm completely crazed when it comes to editing. Sometime I'll want to link someone to an old post, so I'll do it and while I'm there, I'll read the post and notice there's an apostrophe missing, or I said "there" when I meant "their", or I realize it needs a smilie, because I was j/k, but it sounds like I'm being mean.

Every once in a while it will have escaped the archives jar, so I'll still be able to edit, and I will. When I'm finished, I'll go back and before I know it I'll find myself editing commas, and periods, and anything that looks the slightest bit flawed, until I'm so mixed up I can't even remember the correct rules to tell me how commas and periods work, but it won't stop me. I'll just continue editing, and hope the rules come to me.

And sometimes I'll post something, then I'll realize it doesn't really say what I want, so I'll go back, and go on an editing frenzy, but by the time I get it all done I'll look and see there's 5 posts on top of me, and they're all talking about my original post, which only bares partial resemblance to the masterpiece I just finished.

Oh...and yesterday, I posted something then read it and realized it was completely screwed, but when I clicked the edit button the board had gone wonky, and I couldn't get through, so I had to pace the floor until the board was back up, so I could edit my silly post.

Then there's fanfic. OK, I realize the only people who really care about fanfics are the people who write them, but hey this is what we do. 🙁 You have to go back and edit fanfics all the time. It would drive me nuts (or should I say more nuts), if I couldn't edit a fanfic 2, 3, 4 days, a week later.

OK now I confess. I know I'm asking you to pander to my obsessive compulsive disorder by allowing long time edits, but again, hey...us crazy peoples; we's got feelings too. 😀

Thank god there's another one like me
No this is the kind of thing that is important to say - if I didn't want your opinion I wouldn't have asked and would have closed the thread after the initial question was answered.

I do have to mention that considering the dearth of posting about this, that it doesn't seem that the board at large really misses it. But please anyone else who has an opinion one way or the other please weigh in 🙂

Is there anyway to allow the editing of posts for a longer time in certain forums, such as Introduction to the Watcher's Diary?

This doesn't really bother me, as I have 24/7 mod editing powers, but I can see how it might be frustrating - being unable to go in and correct the horrendous typos committed whilst typing drunk the night before, for example 🙂 But, as Buffy said, all us mods should be prepared to do an edit when asked.

I think Cordelia may be on to something with her suggestion about the fic thread tho'.

Ok, I would never ever ask a mod to edit something for me unless I had made a huge mistake. If it wasn't a huge mistake I would feel so stupid asking about it.. so I wouldn't. But I would feel really bad about it and probably stop reading that thread. (I'm not talking about spelling mistakes but other kinds of mistakes that make me look even more stupid than I actually am.)

exactly.
But that's what we're here for. Trust me, no one judges when you want something edited, in fact, the fact that you care makes you look better. 😀

Well no one is perfect and its not like you will be won't be ridiculed for a mistake in a post.

And this is a great example, that sentence totally doesn't make sense. What I meant to say is that you won't be ridiculed for a mistake 😉

See no one points and laughs at Faith 😀 It happens to the best of us, from time to time.

And seriously, if you always make well thought out posts that make sense and then go and make one bad one, no one is going to change their opinion of you.

Hehe, I understood what you meant Faith so that wasn't really a problem but wouldn't it have been great if you were able to edit that? (Well, you're an admin so you are able to do that but.. ah, you know what I mean, hehe.)

Lol, I know, it's just that I think I post quite confusing posts most of the time and sometimes I come up with a way to change a post and make it less confusing and more understandable.

It's not like I'm even trying to convince you to change this, I just.. well, I wish I could still edit stuff, lol, but obviously that's not gonna happen 😀

Well you've been here quite a while and i've never had trouble understanding your posts. But at least you are able to talk things out with us even if you don't agree with something.

I don't see it being a big issue on the boards, because as Buffy Summers pointed out in her earlier post no one else has participated in the discussion against it other than yourself and the thread author.

Ok, well, that's good I guess, you understanding my posts, hehe..

Yeah I know.. So I'll just look through and think through my posts a couple of times before I post them, that'll probably make me a better poster as well 🙂
