Progressing Community: Community thread two

This is not a very good idea - we're a community, not a Jerry Springer episode.

misgivings about the nature of the honesty thread, I'd like to try something.

I think the honesty thread created the opportunity for tension and hostility, but I don't think that was its intention.

So lets try this. A community is a collection of single cells that are in one way or another brought together. It is essential for any community to grow, otherwise the group becomes stuck in a rut. A problem with the honesty thread is that you are opening a discussion about members that have not given you permission to examine them. So I will offer myself up for discussion. Often the biggest problems we have are the ones we can't see ourselves, they need to be pointed out by others. Solving problems within a single cell helps the unit to grow as a whole..

So.. while perhaps a little narcissistic, tell me what you think about me. Help me, and by default, the community grow. What do you think my strengths are(if any), what are my pluses? What do I bring to the group? And my weaknesses(if many), what are they, what negatives do I contribute to halting the progress of the group. What do I fail to bring to the group, and how can I change that?

Fire away, honesty, is always, the best policy. I promise I won't attack you for an having an honest opinion.

Well I think your strength is that you have a lot of interesting perspectives on a variety of topics and make for some really good discussions here on the board.

Your weakness? That you seem to not believe that anyone would actually want you around so you engage in behavior that leads to a self fulfilling prophecy.

Buffy summed it up very well. While I think that you are intelligent individual, I also feel that your sarcasm can defeat what you are saying and make people very hostile.

You don't make, in my opinion, much of an impression on the board to me.
Your comments seem well thought out but I forget them staright away.

You have intelligence, I would suggest you jazz your comments up a little more.

But then, i've never really actually spoken to you so what do I know.

Whathisname, I used to hate your posts. Like you were trying overly hard to be controversial (yeah, I cant spell it). But Ive come to look forward to your posts now. You seem to be a lot less controversial and a lot more with the hate, and thats always fun 😀

You've been a member for a couple of years, but you haven't started many topics. You don't start conversations, you join them. The specific reason for that, I do not know. Perhaps you have low confidence, perhaps you don't believe you can learn anything from the other BB members, or there is nothing they can learn from you. You are funny, but not overly memorable. To be honest, I remember you more for your cool name than anything I've ever read from you.

You seem to be a lot less controversial and a lot more with the hate, and thats always fun 😀

What do you mean?

A community is united through a common goal. That goal is always dealing with a problem. Ask a New Yorker at what point in the last ten years were they most united. What happened when 'chasing his tail' started a thread stating Charmed was better than Buffy? When individuals in a community have nothing to solve as a group, no common goal to strive for, they turn on each other. If there is someone in that community causing 'trouble' are they not united against that?
