Project Mc² Dolls

What a crock of bullshit. Capitalism is the same as it's ever been. Consumers have gotten out of hand. You stop buying, they stop selling. As long as there is a market there will, and should be people that cater to said market. Don't blame it on capitalism, its such a copout. Consumerism and wanting everything bright and shiny and new. Wanting to have the special edition Blu Ray, the newest cell phone, the smartest TV, and the coolest car. That is not capitalisms fault, because if there weren't people there buying "every stupid thing" there would be no companies "cashing in"

But that doesn't excuse greed. I have no problem with people wanting to make money, but people are being charged way too much for these things, and its just every little think like I said. And the point is, is that people should be getting value for money for what they pay for, and too often that isn't the case. And it extends to everything not just entertainment. Many of these companies are already making a profit quite easily, and I should think about the less well off rather than just lining their pockets for the sake of it. Another result of capitalism is that there is this crazy gap between the rich and poor, and the model doesn't work because if it did work then more people would have the chance to succeed in it.

Before this gets out of hand...

Let's bring this thread back to the topic at hand. Which is the dolls. Not capitalism and its flaws.

But that doesn't excuse greed.
Greed should not be excused. It should be welcomed and encouraged. Greed is what makes you work 14 hours a day versus drawing unemployment of welfare. Greed is what drives people to do more and better. Greed is what convinces people to go back to school to further their education so that they can earn more money and get more in life. Greed is not a bad word.

people are being charged way too much for these things,
People are charged what they pay. They are charged what the market dictates. It's as simple as that.

people should be getting value for money for what they pay for, and too often that isn't the case.
That is a personal opinion and it is contingent on what you value and what you consider worth.

Many of these companies are already making a profit quite easily
Gross profit or net profit? And nothing is 'quite easy'

Another result of capitalism is that there is this crazy gap between the rich and poor, and the model doesn't work because if it did work then more people would have the chance to succeed in it.
Again, I call BS (better Taake) on that.. The gap between rich and poor is not about capitalism.

I come on BB to escape stuff like capitalism and politics, not talk about them.
I thank you for stopping this tread from getting out of hand 🙂

Speaking of the dolls, their heads remind me of the heads Bratz dolls have, probably because they are both from the same company, creepy...

I had loads of dolls, and think this is a great idea, the dolls with accessories were always the best, having to make that accessory first means that parents are more likely to play with their child and help them with it, instead of just giving the doll to them. It's not going to be bought as a way to get the child to go away and play by themselves, like many cheap toys are now.

Yes, but capitalism has gotten out of hand. I believe in the basic idea of it, but now its turned into people being greedy, and just charging for every stupid thing, or just cashing in on everything. It ruins the more pleasurable things in life such as art and culture.

I agree. You go to the supermarket and buy something like meat for a reasonably expensive sum- yet the farmers producing it are barely getting by. Somebody's making a HUGE profit and it isn't really fair on those who produce or those who consume.

Cut out the middle man and watch them go out of business. Go to a farmers market and get fresh produce wherever possible. Everyone should do it.

And uh, those dolls huh- they have the weird eyes thing going on. And I really hate out-of-proportion heads. Anything like that on a 'realistic' looking doll freaks me out.
Like bobble-head dolls which are everywhere in certain shops-HATE them.

I get that. BtVS is escapism from things like politics, they're instead hidden in metaphors (mostly) and fantasy for you to interpret your own way.

But if someone were to make a specific thread on BB about politics then that's fine, that's what 'the Bronze' is for.

Back to the dolls (sorry). Is $15 a lot for a doll? How much did a Barbie cost for those that had them when they were younger? I think these would definitely generate enough interest for my step-son to want one and play with it.

Barbies vary.. the ones at Wally World are around $20... but you can get cheaper ones with just like a bikini on for less.

I guess I'd get him a bikini barbie too along with a project mc2 doll, see which he thinks is more fun. I think the mc2 doll would win..

I had loads, too, and many of them came with accessories, I don't see anything new here. In my time the popular doll was Susi (British Sindy). Buth then, they weren't "professionals", like some Barbies are these days... I hate Barbies because they took Susi's place in the girl's hearts... 😡
