Prom cancelled because of student's homosexuality

I think it's a fascinating story, when I first read it I thought it was all on the school and the students would be behind her, I actually assumed it because I know if it happened at my school I know thats how it would have been, I really thought our younger generation was different, it's scary to see we're not (or their notm they are a few years younger then me)!

But one of the students put up an explanation of why they sent her to the wrong prom:

I am a senior at IAHS, and I've known Constance for the last 6 years. Please hear our side of the story before you decide on our fate.
The party we had in Evergreen (the county neighborhood I live in) is 30 mins away from the school. we rented out the community center, hired vendors, decorated, and our parents ran the security/chaperone staff- but it wasn't prom. Prom was at the country club where constance and 7 other students were. The reason the senior class boycotted the actual prom was not because we hate gays. We wanted a drama-free gathering to celebrate 3 great years and 1 lousy one together, and we wanted to lay low. We also wanted to do it without the main cause of the lousy. What people are failing to realize is that much of the fault of this whole stink lies with Constance, not her mistreatment by the school district, but her crazy-reckless need for attention. It sounds mean and horrible and like we planned it all specifically to embarrass Constance, but we didn't. We let her have her prom with her girlfriend and her tuxedo and we went to party it up in the "boondocks" not because we wanted her rights violated, but so we could salvage what has turned into a total fiasco. As a whole we didn't support her decision to throw the district under the bus, or her insinuations that we're all just a bunch "˜a hicks driving around in beater pick up trucks spitting tobacco and burning crosses. IAHS is one of the top schools in the state and I'm proud of that, and I'm proud that we took a stand and just said you know what? forget it, we have just as much right as you do to have a party for ourselves. So we did, and now we're getting flack because poor Connie's ego got a bit of bruising. She's playing the lesbian card to prove she ALWAYS gets what she wants. This time, we didn't just let her.

Take it as you will, because I'm sure it sounds like we faked her out, but understand this- the decision NOT to attend prom had nothing to do with the school or with Constance's sexual preferences; it had everything to do with proving we weren't going to let her and the ACLU steamroll us into doing what Constance wanted. We flexed the muscle of the majority and we'll suffer the consequences.

Apparently 2 disabled kids weren't invited to the secret prom either, so they don't just exclude gays kids!

Ugh, that post makes me sick. Whoever wrote that is trying to put all the blame of Constance, for she comitted the abominable crime of speaking out against being discriminated. Apparently wanting to be treated with the same respect as everyone else is the "main cause of the lousy" and a "crazy-reckless need for attention". And clearly a prom with two women going together would be a "total fiasco" that therefore must be avoided.

This is the worst type of homophobe. The one that claims it has nothing to do with her being gay then riddles their rant with thinly-veiled homophobia and acts as though they're the discriminated group. Poor little things, being "steamrollered" into giving a lesbian student the same rights as any other student. Stupid, self-centred little pricks is what they are.

Damn it, I just remembered why I hate the world. I'm gonna have to stew in my own rage and possibly become a mass-murdering psychopath in the future. Thanks a lot, homophobes.

I hope to whoever's listening than these people learn some respect and have their eyes open a little at college, because, statistically, there's a high chance that some of these people will have children who are gay, bi, whatever, and I do not even want to think about how they'd treat them if they found out.

I went to the fb group and it sure has changed from what it was intended to do. Since I don't know Constance personally it's not like I can claim her to be 100% perfect but these people sure are doing a great work making themselves look like complete idiots.

There's just one thing I don't understand.

People, how many kids are in an average American grade? It's hundreds, right? Or at least more than a hundred? So, the law of averages suggests that Constance CANNOT be the only LGBT student at that school. What did the other students do? Did they just keep quiet and follow the herd like sheep?

So what are the facts?

In order to give an opinion on what happened I'd like all the facts, and the minor ones like was she an attention getter who wanted to be noticed?
Are the class'mates' social friends? Friends or her bullies?
Was there a pre-existing dress code for the prom?

What was the religion?
Was it a religion run school?
And considering that homosexuality is linked with male and male partnerships. And that Lesbians are female and female partnerships.
What is the general intelligence of the area, as stating the prom was cancelled because of a lesbians homosexuality would cause reason to doubt that the word intelligence should be used.

Eugh, someone showed me this article about an incident that is disgustingly similar - a girl tried to attend prom, but because of rampant prejudice she was directed to the wrong place while the rest of the year held their prom somewhere else.

So what is supposed to be one of the happiest nights of your life as a teenager is being cancelled cause a girl wants to wear a tux!? This is the 21st century people! What if a guy wanted to wear a kilt?! I would go on a rant but I am honestly speechless... or typeless. Whichever.
