Prom is a pretty big thing, it's the last chance to get together with all of your friends from high school and have a good time before you all go separate ways... So what was your Prom experience like? Did you have a date? Did you win the Class Protector award? 😉

If you didn't go to Prom, why not? What did you do instead? Did you regret not going?

And if you haven't been to your Prom yet if you're younger, are you looking forward to it? 🙂

My Prom is tonight, and I'm looking forward to it. I'm going with a couple of close friends, so it should be a good time. 🙂 I'm kind of nervous though, heh.

Don't take me for example, because my Prom was disastrous.

I didn't have a date, I hated 90% of the people who were there and I wasn't at the same table as my best friend because she was one of the lasts to get her tickets. I was with another friend, who was in love with said best friend... So we both passed our night being sad and bored.

Oh, and most of the music they passed was some club mixes that were just awful and the only 2 slow songs (not that I cared) were while we were eating and after they crowned Prom King and Queen.

The only nice moment I had was when a friend asked me to dance. He was a very bad dancer, but it was fun for a few minutes.

I regret going, if I could do it again I would save lots of money and just go to my after-Prom. I figure if I need a very nice party, I'll just get married.

But as I said, don,t take me as an example 😉

Vamp Jenny That's awful. I really want to throw a big party for you now 🙁

I'm in the UK and when I was leaving school, we didn't have proms (they may do now though 😕) We just had a school disco, which was pretty lame, it was in this tiny room and the very small buffet was outside in another room, which was huuuge, it didn't really make sense, they really should've swapped them around 🙄
I went with my best friend and we danced with pretty much everyone lol
Don't remember anyone giving out awards lol

We don't have proms or any celebration of this kind 😛 good luck for tonight though! I'm sure you'll have fun 🙂

I went to prom three times and they were all very fun!

Our school doesn't have a king or queen, so the night is about everyone. We always had great DJ's and food, so no complaints there. I did the after-prom party two times and my senior year a bunch of my friends stayed at someone's house on a lake. It was quite awesome! I liked doing the Grand March (my junior year I was the co-chair on the Grand March committee) for the public and at the nursing home. And I always love to dance!

It's okay I got over it 😉 Plus if I'm lucky I might have a prom at the end of uni too! I know some faculties do.

But if you reallyw ant to throw me a party, I wouldn't say no!!! 😉 😀

I went to two proms and took my (now ) ex girlfriend to both, both of them were magical, I wore a tux she wore a dress to both, my school was very excepting though, everyone knew my ex and I were together and we didn't really have any issues, we danced and ate, then went to after prom both times. I'm happy I went I think that I would have really regretted it of I didn't go

I didn't go (we had our prom last monday) and I don't really regret it. I'm sure I will later, but right now I don't really care. When I have my mid-life crisis it will probably make me a bit suicidal 😛

I didn't go to mine. Basically because I went to a different high school for my senior year. Really didn't get a chance to get to know anyone. Plus, bleh. The idea of prom? I never wanted to go in the first place. I don't regret not going!

I went to homecoming once, I didn't like it much.

I'm just not a Prom-y person or a homecoming person. I don't really like to dance. At least not in public...

Plus, I never liked high school. I didn't like the people.

I'm pretty much the same, though I did like...5 people :D
Haha, really don't take my prom as a standard either, it was one of the worst nights of my life, bar none.

I had a date, but she wasn't the girl I wanted to be there with. I had someone I'd chased around all throughout high school who just never liked me back (cliff notes: crappy feeling) and prom was kind of my last shot. I remember that entire day, all I wanted from her was a dance. Once dance. That was it, and I would have been happy to be done, to move on. So the big night came, I didn't enjoy a single thing about the limo ride down to the prom or any of my friends and I treated my date horribly (I didn't mean to, and I feel awful about it now) because all I could focus on was asking this girl to dance.

We get there, I don't even remember the dinner, I'm pretty sure I didn't even dance with the girl I'd brought (I know, I know...) and when I finally got enough guts up to walk up to this girl I'd wanted for so long, I did ask her to dance with me, and she said no.

I spent the rest of the evening depressed in the bathroom and then turning down a great, nice girl who actually wanted to spend some time with me. It took me a long time, a very long time, to realize that this girl I'd been dreaming about was just that: a dream. I'd built her up in my head to be someone I wanted her to be (speaking totally honestly here, I think in my head I wanted to date Buffy, and man, nothing like Buffy), and she just wasn't.

I wish I hadn't wasted my prom, more than most things I wish that. It's supposed to be a truly special and lasting night, and mine wasn't. Not by a long shot. It was no one's fault but my own though.

I really hope you have a nice time. Just remember to have fun!

Very thoughtful and well written story. Thanks for sharing it :)
Prom night was very memorable for me, even though I didn't even go. 😛

But I knew I wasn't going to go, I had no suit, no money for the tickets. I wanted to go for one split second, but I quickly shrugged it off, like "oh, it's just some stupid dance." So me and some of my friends just went walking around town that night, bored out of our minds.

Then we happened to come across an abandoned house. Coincidentally, my friend had his Ipod and his speakers in his book-bag. Hmm, we thought. This could be fun. So we went down the street, bought us some McDonalds, came back to the house, set up the music, and had our own prom. We even had our own "awards". Out of the five of us, I was voted as "The guy who would be crazy enough to suggest that we have a party in this spooky, abandoned house." It was a very spontaneous and fun night, to say the least. 😀

I hope you had fun, Mortal Enemy, I mean, Chris WileyDairyGnome. 😉

I went to my college orientation instead of prom. I was...eager to move on, lol.

I wasn't a fan of high school, I didn't like most of the people there and the prom just seemed like such a huge incovenience. I remember there being a bunch of drama about who goes on which party bus/limo, who pays for tickets and blah blah blah. I'm sure a lot of people had a blast, but it's not my thing. My friends went and they said it was okay, but kind of a waste of money.

I don't regret it. It's not really something I think about. Right now I'm enjoying looking at my younger friends' prom pictures on Facebook, but that's about as far as my prom-enjoyment goes. 😀 I feel like there's a certain negative stereotype of people who don't go to prom, and I really don't get that. I just didn't want to go, lol. 😛

UGH prom. My prom experienced SUCKED! Firstly the guy I was supposed to attend with canceled on me claiming he didn't have money for a tux. I saw him at the prom with some other chick. He was a Jr by the way so he wasnt even supposed to attend. Talk about DRAMA! Secondly, I hated my prom dress and it was pretty expensive. I went stag so I pretty much was the third wheel with my bestfriend and her boyfriend who did nothing but fight. Talk about akward! Anyways I wish I would of just stayed home avoided that A-hole and saved all that money! blah.

Lol, I always planned on not going to my prom. Then I stupidly allowed someone to persuade me to go. Like...two days before the prom. So it was pretty much a disaster because I had like no time to prepare for it. 😛

So I went to my Prom last night. It wasn't so bad. 🙂 It was in this really nice building by the lake, and beforehand my friends and I got our pictures taken by the lake.

I didn't dance much, a few slow ones with my best friend, and a few awkward fast dances with a few other friends. I don't know how to dance. 😛

So yeah, the whole thing was pretty awkward, but I'm still happy I went, I know I would have regretted it if I didn't go. 🙂

I do have one really embarrassing story though, oh my gosh. 😛 I hate even thinking about it, haha... I accidentally went into the girl's washroom. 😱 But there was a totally legitimate reason. The bathroom door was wide opened, so it's not like I saw the sign on the door, and inside all I could see were couches and a fireplace, so I thought it was like a little sitting room or something but nope, it was the girl's washroom. I was so embarrassed. 😛 Oh gosh...

glad it went pretty wel. and you a got 'remember when...; story out of it :)
My 'ball' (we don't have 'prom' in Western Australia, but basically the same thing but called 'balls') made the prom in Carrie look like a wonderful night.

I dropped out of high school when I was 15 but my boyfriend at the time went to the neighbouring private Catholic school (I went to nasty-ass free school). I straight away accepted his invitation to his ball and was very pleased as he was in a band with 3 other guys and my best friend was going with the guitarist and I also really liked the girlfriend of the lead singer.

My best friend and I excitedly bought dresses. Mine was this skintight black, grey and silver strapless number and at the time I had a great body and an amazing punk rock short hair cut and I looked a million bucks and I sooo knew it.

Unfortunately a few days before the ball I started getting embarrassed by my boyfriend as I didn't think he was as cool as me (16 year old girls are strange creatures) and stupidly broke up with him because I was chasing a much cooler boy that was in more successful band, better looking and also a complete arsehole. Nothing ever came of it. Turns out I wasn't as cool as I thought.

I already had my dress and my date had already paid for my ticket and we were all still mates so I told him that I would still go with him anyway and that we would have a great night together.

When the night started it was good. We had a bottle of champagne while getting ready and met the boys at our friends house and did the obligatory photos with the parents and of the dates.

When we got there I immediately knew that I shouldn't have gone. I looked out of place amongst the girls with fancy up-do's, long curled hair and long and boring ball gowns. I felt like I was Nancy Spungen at an Upper East Side party and everyone was looking at me like I had crawled out a gutter. To this day I do not regret for one second being myself but I wish I had have been amongst friends and family and people that liked my look.

My date all but ignored me the entire night and spent the entire time wandering over to another table and talking to people there while I sat on my own wishing that someone had bought more than just a small hip flask of vodka.

The music was terrible. Top 40 shit for a girl that was more interested in The Clash and The Jesus and Mary Chain then listening to Top 40 hip hop and dance.

I was on the edge of the dance floor awkwardly shifting from one foot to another when I looked on stage and saw my ex-boyfriend making out with a tall, pretty girl with long blonde hair and Prada dress. I was devastated. I spoke to his friend and asked him why my date was making out with someone else. Apparently they had got together the day after I broke up with him.

She was the head girl of Year 12 and was awarded with the Belle of the ball and when she had her dance she danced with my date. The guy that had been my boyfriend until 2 weeks earlier and they passionately kissed while everyone (including me) watched. I felt many an eye on the punk rock girl that had shown up and there were a few nasty giggles directed at me.

We moved on to the after-ball and I promptly got changed into my 16 year old uniform of ripped stockings, tartan skirt, homemade band shirt and hi-top Chuck Taylors. It was an intimate party, with only about 8 of us. The head girl showed up shortly afterwards looking like an adult in an expensive dress, heels and a blazer. I felt like a child and turned to alcohol (for the first time and unfortunately not the last) for some comfort while the happy new couple sat close and kissed and cuddled and the host and his girlfriend ducked off for some after-ball booty.

The rest of the memory is foggy but I vaguely remember being asked to leave by the hosts mother after becoming so intoxicated that I could barely walk or talk and humiliatingly vomiting on my favourite pair of Chuck Taylors that had been worn for every major moment. They were promptly thrown in the bin by the hosts mother and I found myself walking down the street at 3am with no money, no shoes and no dignity.

I never saw any of these people again as they were disgusted by me. They all went back to their lives and me and my 'bit of rough' is likely now nothing but a cocktail anecdote.

I wish I could end this story with an uplifting message but unfortunately it's 9 years on and I'm still choosing bad boys over nice guys and I'm still making a fool of myself due to alcohol (although now I'm having a good time when I do so!)

Glad to hear that your Prom was nothing like my Ball 😉

Edit: Holy mother of! Didn't realise how much of a novel I wrote. I do apologise.

Well in the UK we do have Prom but they are more of a school disco with fancy outfits but we don't have prom King or Queen.

Mine was 50/50 I went with the 'gang' I hung out with in school which is funny cause I stopped hanging with them for a year but still close with 4 of them. Anyway me and my two best friends from this group went to one of their houses we had a laugh and had some drinks but the limo which was orangized by my ex best mate who is backstabber we didn't know why she asked us to join the group but it was cheaper then others anyway the limo was a hour and half late to pick us up, the three of us were tempted to not go and just stay at my mates. Finally it came and we still have two people to pick up, it was a really nice limo but the three of us couldn't stand the others we only like one of them, the others were just being horrible about each others dresses.

When we arrived there I got so angry as I saw my dad there who I told not to come and I will give him pictures of the night later (my dad was kicked out of the house a year before cause he was horrible) he still took pictures and finally left. When my group walked in all the teachers were like dinner is starting now where you all been? Plus there were no tables left so we had to split up thank god I sat at a table with people who I got along and my 2 best friends who came with me sat to the table next to me where my bestest mate and close mates were (my bestest mate didn't come with my group because I thought he was invited with us but my ex best mate didn't ask him :/) anyway I enjoyed laughing with these two tables but the dinner was horrible it was like gone off chicken. Anyway me and my best friends started dancing but it was horrible music.

After that we got a group photo of the gang I was with in the limo and my bestest mate joined 😛 and this girl we hated joined in the picture which we were like how? I was texting my 'boyfriend' during the night as it was boring, all my friends hated it! So I got a bit emotional as I thought it was going to be better plus my dad was horrible to me and I was scared of the future. So me and my bestest friend went outside and had a chat we said no matter what we be bestest mates for life (which is funny as we barely speak now lol but my all time bestest mate who I have been friends since I was 6 is still with me 😛 she didn't come to prom as she is one year younger) I got so bored so I told him I gonna go and he said yeah me too so I left at half 11 and the prom finshes at 12 so I didn't miss anything, my mum and sister picked me up and got milkshakes and watched a film to cheer me up. Also my foot hurt like crazy as some idiot with a 6 inch heel step on me so that was bruised for a month 🙁

Even though the prom was such a let down and I left early I was happy I was there with my mates it would of been better is my number one best mate was there but like I said she's a year younger but on the good note the next day me and two top best friends went to his house and had our own prom 😛 which is take away, movie and non stop guitar hero and singing haha xD

Prom isn't really a big thing over here, I wasn't too fussed about mine. If anything it got in the way a bit, as it took place when I was supposed to be at a festival, so had to miss the first day of it and then go down the next morning at stupid o clock with my friends.

It was ok though. I went with my best friend at the time who forgot his ticket halfway there, meaning we had to wait for ages in the rain and then get the bus in our formalish outfit (which got us some interesting looks). The prom itself was ok, bit dull apart from a fight between some chavs and some of my friends. Compared to the house parties we had that year it was a bit of a waste of time and money really.

The festival the next day was brilliant though, will be something I'll always remember.
