Prop 8 Overturned!

Nope its not a joke it was overturned in california 😀
I saw some really cute posts about it with Willow/Tara gifs attached
 
It's the first step in what is likely to be a long process that I suspect will end up in the US Supreme Courts. I also expect it to be found unconstitutional there and that truly would be a landmark moment in the pursuit of equall rights in the US.
 
I'm really excited for this. 🙂 I have lots of gay friends, and being bi myself, of course I'm a supporter for LGBT rights. It's a big step in the right direction for our country!

I saw it on Sarah's facebook and just exploded with glee. This was such fantastic news, I'm so happy the world has evolved this much and I'm glad we've won (at least in CA). I'm so happy for everyone who lives there, and I know it's only a matter of time before it spreads. 😀
 
As soon as I heard I jumped with glee. It really makes me happy that Californians can wed whoever they please. I have so many gay friends in CAlifornia who are ecstatic and are already making preparations to wed. I do admit though, being a gay woman myself, I'm a bit jealous...living in Florida sucks lol ;P
 
Thank goodness! Oh, this makes me so happy! 😀 I live in a neighboring state of California, and believe me when I say that I was heartbroken when Prop 8 passed in 2008. While I understand that it might be appealed, it's good that they've gone this far. Of course, I wish we didn't have to do stuff like this over human rights, but... anyway, congratulations to California on fighting back. 🙂
 
The thing that pleases me the most about it is that it's a judge doing what a judge should do - namely, interpreting the constitution - as distinct from voters doing what voters shouldn't do - namely, subjecting human rights to popular opinion.

I'm optimistic enough about human nature to believe that the trend toward marriage equality is permanent, immutable and inevitable. Sooner or later, marriage equality will be recognised worldwide and we'll be amazed that there was ever a time that it wasn't. However, I feel bad for victims of geography at the moment - people wanting to marry whomever they please but unable to do so because of where they happen to live. It must be infuriating to think that the popular opinion in the country or state where you happen to live dictates your ability to get married. Much kudos to the judge in question for seeing it this way.
