Trivia:

- The massive demon coming out of the Hellmouth at the end of "Prophecy Girl" had to be frightening, but the budget didn't allow for computer-generated images. The masterminds at Optic Nerve ended up making tentacle "costumes". Each of the tentacles has a human being inside, manipulating from within.

- Originally, another sign of the impending apocalypse was going to be stones raining down on Sunnydale High. It was cut out due to budget costs.

Goofs:

- When Buffy goes down to stop the Master, he kills her and throws her into some water. She lands with her arms underneath her and her hair tied in a ponytail. When Angel and Xander find her, her hair is loose and she has her arms out to her sides.

- When Willow, Jenny, and Cordelia are closing the door of the library to shut out the vampires, the doors are shown being shut from their point of view. But when it goes to the vampires point of view, the right door shuts again.

- After Buffy falls into the water, Angel rushes to her body huffing and puffing. Thirty seconds later, when Xander proposes CPR, Angel tells Xander that he has to do it "because I don't have any breath".

- When the Master falls onto the table at the end of the episode, it breaks through the middle of his ribcage. When the skeleton is shown after everyone leaves, the ribcage is repaired.

- Buffy's parents met at the Homecoming dance in Joyce's freshman year of college, when Joyce didn't have a date and Hank did.

- Cordelia has apparently succeeded in getting her driver's license sometime since failing her driving test in "The Witch."

- After being resuscitated by Xander, Buffy says, "I feel strong. I feel different." No explanation of the nature or cause of this change is ever given, either in this episode or in subsequent episodes.

10/10 best of s1. Loved that Xander was the one to save her. Also, loads of times in the series theres vamps breathing and huffing and puffing, like Spike. Joss should have told them to cut it out.
 
Great episode but in my bottom two of Season Finales. Other than Prohecy Girl and Restless, every other season finale has made me tear up or cry. I like when the episodes are really emotional.

It's still a really good episode, though.

Love, love, love this ep. Even the cheesiness of Buffy walking to the high school with her theme song playing in the background is not enough to turn me away. 😀 And I LOVE that Xander is the one to save her. 🙂

I love the emotional ones as well. I still love Prophecy Girl though. I think it is a flawless ep & a perfect ending to the first season. The scene with Buffy & Willow in her room actually makes me tear up a bit. I love when she asks her, "What are we gonna do?" And Buffy simply states, "What we have to." I also love the scenes with Buffy & Joyce in Buffy's room. I love all of their scenes though 🙂

Agree 100% about the Willow and Buffy scene.
I love this episode mostly because of the nostalgia I experience whenever i see it. I just remember the first time and the whole show and its cast seemed so magical to me. Also though it's not a favorite seasons finale I suppose I do think it's a terrific ep - Buffy's break down at finding she's going to die is just... ahh
"Giles I'm 16 years old... I don't want to die" ... heart wrenching, way to go SMG!

I concur with everything you say, magical moment, SMG so adorable
I am a nostalgic person and so I like to go back to things i used to do years ago. All Angel wants to do is put his arms around Buffy but she pulls away from him saying Don't touch me. And when Xander goes to Angel's apartment and Angel:You're in love with her.
Xander: Aren't you.

Another great moment from the episode
Definately the strongest episode in season 1 for me. A fitting end to the season which opened up so many future possibilities. The scene with Buffy overhearing Angel and Giles stands out for me as does the conversation Xander and Angel have.

lol It does take away from the realism aspect to see vampires breathing hard. You'd think they would cover holding your breath in acting classes especially if you are required to do a death scene.

Maybe she's referring to the increased per-episode budget she'll have from then on?

Seriously, whatever plagues season one: stilted acting, cheesy special effects, poorly-thought-out monsters... it's magically all gone for "Prophecy Girl". This episode holds its own with the rest of the seasons, with nothing to snicker about.
 
I love this episode. Buffy comes back to life stronger..I guess cause of the energy of being, in a sense, re-born. And the scene in the library when she says she's 16 and she doesn't wanna die...that's so touching and you can feel her pain, you can feel her life being taken away and we pretty much begin to understand what it means being a slayer. Plus, she has an amazing dress..oh and also, the way her face lits up when she sees Angel with Giles and says his name that way..that is so sweet. Wonderful finale, really.

I love that scene in the library.
Prophecy Girl will always be in my Top 5 Buffy episodes. It's what BtVS is all about to me. It sets the rest of the series in motion completely.

I wish they would have had the rain of stones. Would have been cool. (Although, maybe considering the budget constraints, it would have been tacky).

The scene when Buffy finds out her destiny is to die is absolutely harrowing. She initially rejects her destiny and calling, but when she sees her friend in pain she reclaims her destiny. The first time that Willow, unintentionally, completely and utterly saves the day.

And who can forget the scene where she dies, only to be bought back by Xander, while Angel stands helplessly by? She comes back, saved once again by a friend and is stronger and kicks butt.
 
It always bugged me that there was no (explicit) explanation for why the Master needed Buffy's blood to break free. But I think I just might have stumbled on the answer.

In the original script, the Master mentions killing and drinking from a Slayer during 'the Spanish War'. Since we know the Master arrives in Sunnydale in the 1930's, it's possible he fed off a Slayer during the Spanish Civil War prior to traveling to Sunnydale. Due to it being a mystical prison and all, needing a Slayer's blood to break free makes sense...you know the far fetched, vague kind of sense. That line in the original script seems way too specific to be just a coincidence.
 
I was so upset when Buffy over heard Giles and Angel talking about her dying 🙁

I was also let down at how fast the fight with the Master was over. I think if their second fight wasn't on top of the school building where Buffy got him when his defences were low he would have killed her like he did in The Wish.

The theme playing as Buffy, Angel and Xander walked to the school was so campy and awesome in one haha. So badass.

Wish Angel wore the white shirt more during later seasons.

I love the Hellmouth's demon with all the heads. I think it would have sucked if it was CGI.
