Prue or Paige??

I prefer Paige. She is funnier and, although I didn´t like her when she entered into the show, now i think that it was a change for good. The show needed someone like her and now phoebe and piper have the chance to act in other roles as the big sister and the one in the middle.

Prue always

is there any doubt that Prue had the biggest impact? she was the FIRST BORN of the sisters, the strongest and the one who protected them after their mother and grams died.

Prue's courage and boldness, along with her powers (the strongest of the Charmed ones) gave the sisters the offensive edge they needed time and again when facing foes. she was often the strategist of the group as well.

Her DEATH , (while trying to protect her sisters and the doctor) showed just how much of an impact she had for the Charmed ones had to be RECONSTITUTED just to survive. They lost the offensive edge/power they had and the sisters definately had a harder time dealing with threats with Piper being so emotional and wrapped up in her own crises rather than putting her issues aside like Prue.

There was at least ONE episode in season 5 in which the sisters were taken into an alternate timeline which showed life for the sisters shortly after prue's death (and paige was dead as well) and how the charmed ones were basically no more. The many references to Prue and her significance should prove that she clearly made the greater impact.

better presentation, better wardrobe, better powers, better function. 😉

I gotta disagree with that, hon. The charmed ones was based off the power of three. A lot of things took three of them. The outcome would only have been marginally different had a different sister died in place of Prue, and even then, not necessarily for the better.

And we've seen in the past that Prue hiding her emotions has not let to anything good. For example, the angel of death episode, where she was constantly hiding her feelings. Bottling in her feelings only caused harm in the long run. At least with Piper letting out her feelings initially and giving herself time to grieve, she was literally getting it out of her system, whereas Prue was a dam ready to break. The longer it took, the harder the fall was going to be when she finally let go. So no, bottling things up is not the answer. Which is basically what Prue's 'putting things aside' came down to.

And I would actually have to say that Paige is MORE determined and offensive than Prue ever was. At the moment, Paige is literally the driving force of the charmed ones. At least, up to where I've seen in season 6. But Paige is far more creative than Prue ever was. Prue tended to wave her arm in the demon's general direction and hope mission was accomplished. Paige is far more hands on. her power is more limited so she has to use her considerable intelligence to make creative attacks. She thinks of solutions, she makes potions, she does everything, whereas Prue often did not. Paige manages to be Prue magically... while lacking in the bossiness, and occasional bitchy edge that Prue possessed... which basically means that Paige manages to be magically the most competant and emotionally by FAR the most likeable.

Plus, while her wardrobe is occasionally questionable, there's little doubt cast on the idea that she is her own woman. She has a style that you quite frankly can't confuse with anyone else!

And remember, Prue had a whole lifetime to grow into her role. Paige has had three years to get to know the sisters she never had, and to adapt to magic. And somehow, she has become magically the most competant one, while content with her family. It takes an extraordinarily strong woman to be able to do that.

how DARE you disagree with me!!! << cracks whip>> lol 😀.....but seriously, you do raise some valid points that even i didnt think of at first, i definately dont agree with the idea of Paige having more of an offensive edge. You cant be have an edge if you dont have the power to go with it, and quite frankly, Paige has spent more time getting turned into "characters", thrown the walls, and chased around the halliwell's kitchen table than anything else. She is often the LAST to use her power and is basically just the "team teleporter".

I agree, definately that Piper was in a grieving process (portrayed marvelously by Holly Marie Combs) but she failed to pick up the mantle as the "leader"/big sister the way Prue carried it. She often was overshadowed by Phoebe or even Paige.

Paige, IS definately more resourceful, but she HAS to be...because as you said, her power is limited and she doesnt even TRY to use it. We saw Prue using her power to hurl demons away, move objects, deflect objects/projections, and much more. it was Prue's power that often turned the tide of a battle in season's past. Now the sisters rely heavily on spells and potions.....sort of diminishing the idea that "The Charmed Ones" are the most powerful witches ever.

The show is about the power of three yes....but that power of three is NOT what it used to be and its because Prue is gone. You cant honestly tell me you've seen a good knock down drag out brawl between the sisters and the forces of evil the way they went at it in "The Honey Moon's Over' (season 3). Led by Prue ("the best defense is a good offense") the sisters blasted through the courtroom doors and laid the smackdown on the judge and his minions. NOT SINCE, has there been a fight on that show worthy of comparison...not even when the newly reconsititude charmed ones faced the Source himself.

Personality wise, Paige is definately NOT polarized like Piper (the worrier/bitchy), Phoebe (the discontent/selfish) or Prue (the bossy/bitchy) .....she is more even in her emotions and definately more proactive...LIKE PRUE was 😀 but at the same time, she has acted mousy, underconfident many times where as Prue never behaved like that.....she always launched herself into her tasks unflinchingly.

Damn girl, you're managing to beat me back already 😛 But no, I must continue on. *sighs dramatically*

*lol* anyway... Prue DOES have the more offensive power I agree, but I think Paige is more varied with her power. After three years, Prue had gained telekinesis and limited astral projection. But after three years, Paige can orb, she can TKO, she can glamour, she has moderate sensing abilities.... she can do more with her powers...

About Paige being the last to use her powers and getting turned into things - that isn't always the case. In the first half of season 6, Paige is the most pro-active sister... she managed to kill every ordinary demon they came across outside the manor, I believe. if not every ordinary demon, then ALMOST all of them. If thats not using your power to spectacular effect, I don't know what is 😉

Without turning this into a Prue vs Piper fight 😀 I think that Piper and Prue reacted differently to being the oldest sister simply BECAUSE they were two different women. If they both reacted the same, well... they'd be the same person. You have to admit that Piper has grown VERY powerful with her powers in themselves.

I don't think that we can judge the power of the charmed ones on the strength of one sister. I mean, Paige's powers are rooted in her whitelighter heritage which means naturally they are not going to be primarily offensive. But since they are witches I don't think it diminishes their power of they rely on tools that witches have used for centuries. Plus, remember Piper's power 😉 To kill an ordinary demon, Prue had to launch multiple telekinetic assaults. Piper simply flicks her wrists and it explodes.. so what Paige lacks in firepower, Piper has made up. Overall they have the same amount of power as before. Its just the recent attitudes of Piper and Phoebe which mean that Charmed is not how it used to be. Paige is the one who is always willing to go for an all out demon brawl.

And really, I can't blame her for being underconfident. After all, she has only been in their life 2-3 years as opposed to the twenty some years that Prue was in their life. And she's coming in the middle of a powerful team - its only natural that she would be worried about being strong enough not to let Piper and Phoebe down 😉 In fact, you could say its because of Prue that Paige sometimes hesitates.

ahh....this is a good debate we have here! 😎

in regards to the power of the charmed ones. We really dont know what was next for Prue's power evolution. She already had exceptional telekinetic power, being able to move objects, people, redirect energy projections and weapons and the like as well as Astral Projection which while it was limited in the fact her actual body wouldnt remain conscious, look at the fact that she could astral project over long distances ....in the blink of an eye. she APed from the manor to the cemetery to help cole fight off his foes in that Angel of death episode (for example) and her AP was definately an ability the demons did not factor in often. It gave her both a defensive edge as well as the element of surprise. she also had exceptional martial arts abilities....something only surpassed by Phoebe. Piper and Paige are pretty much hopeless when it comes to hand to hand combat.

Basically what im saying is that if she had remained, is there any doubt that her powers would definately had increased substantially to offset Piper's new power? Im sure the main reason Piper GOT that power was because the writers behind the scenes knew about Shannen's departure and were writing Prue out of the show. Piper's power, during seasons 4 and some of 5 while definately the most offensive and dangerous among the powers of the sisters, was often more of a liability, she was hardly accurate when targeting her foes, and MOST of her foes could shrug off the attacks for if not, then what need would there have been for the weak phoebe and the neophyt paige? the whole dynamic of the sisters shifted to accomodate the stability that Prue offered in terms of leadership and power. Paige DOES have a variety of powers at her disposal......the only one that is REMOTELY intriguing to me is the telekinetic orbing, which if she really wanted to get down and dirty, could cause some serious damage to her foes and even replicate Prue's ability to "TK a fireball etc" back at her foe. She's got potential, but because she IS half whitelighter, her witchly heritage is some what dilluted...thus her powers will never compare to Prue or Piper. I DO think she has the potential to out do Phoebe, who i find to be utterly useless all the way around.

Oh, I agree. Prue's powers would have evolved to near unlimited heights eventually. But on the other hand - given another three years, Paige's powers may have amassed into something indentical to TK anyway. She can call things from a distance. She can do a hell of a lot, and if I had more time on my hands I would probably listed them. But you catch my drift anyway 😀

However, I think there's more to being a witch than throwing a power at some one. I mean, thinking about it... Paige uses EVERY area of magic available to her... spells, potions, etc etc. She uses them so often that she's amassed more expertese than Prue. Strip the two of them of their powers or put them in a situation whereby they can't use them... and you'd find that Paige is the better all round witch. She'd be able to use spells and potions more naturally.

With time, Im sure that Paige's powers would be something impressive to see (provided the character was more quick to use them instead of standing there gawking while her sisters were being thrown around or being chased). She would have an impressive ARRAY to be sure but i dont think she'd ever compare to Prue for raw power in a "blow for blow" fight when you consider that Prue (in "Morality Bites") could blast through walls with her "Telekinetic Bomb Blasts".

good point about Paige being well rounded as a witch. You can probably tell from my style of rping AND my last few posts that i tend to favor raw power and fierce style which is one of many reasons why i prefer Prue to Paige. In regards to potion making and spell writing, I can only remember seeing Prue doing potion making in the episode involving the Grimlocks and the the episode "Power Outage". BUT she definately knew how to use the Book of shadows, and was often the first to suggest they check the book for references, clues and spells in tricky situations. She was a master strategist. while Paige definately is more resourceful ( i wont argue that fact at all ) she is NOT a strategist nor could she physical defend herself.

Strip them of their individual powers and leave them with their basic magickal heritage and you would find that while Paige was more adept at making potions and writing spells to cast, I think Prue and Paige would be TIED in terms of Book of Shadows comprehension but Paige would sorely lack in the hand to hand combat department.

Agreed entirely in that Prue was the better martial-artist. I think during her time on the show, Paige has managed to throw a grand total of two punches, which is definately something that she would have to work upon. However, if martial artistry was all it took to defeat a demon, then, for example, the zen-master's daughter (Enter the demon) could have been an expert demon killer. Sure, martial arts gave her an edge, but they were only useful for the occasional defense (and the kill in 'primrose empath'). But yeah I do see your point, and strip them COMPLETELY of magic and Prue could beat Paige down - just as Phoebe did when infected by Barbas in that season 5 ep.

I'd say that lately Paige is becoming much more of a strategist. In past, she was one to step back and let her sisters do the thinking and Paige do the teleporting, as you said. But honestly, I think in season 6 her magical knowledge has surpassed that of her sisters, and she is often the one to suggest a plan of action. You may remember that several times she has been actually arguing her point of view with her sisters and more often than not she is right (of course, they've been witches longer.. so naturally Paige is not always going to be right)

I agree that Prue did have more raw power. I just think that there's more to being a witch than possessing raw power. And after all, those demons who would be affected by martial arts are those demons who are fairly low level and could be easily vanquished anyway. Yet an area that Prue is lacking in is the driving force that Paige has become. When Prue did her vanquishes etc, she was part of a team of 3 and so did not MOST of the time have to be a driving force, so to speak. But lately it seems as though Paige has been the one who has had to go out, alone, and perform vanquishes and the like. So in that way, yes, I think Paige did have a great impact.

in this last season, Paige has DEFINATELY been more proactive than Piper and Phoebe. Just think if it was Prue , Piper and Paige.....now THAT would be a formidable combination: two sisters with incredible power and one sister with an impressive array as well as being well rounded with potions, spell writing and strategy. they'd be covered in all aspects.

personally if i had my way, it would be Prue, Piper and Paige. I think Prue would actually encourage Paige and congratulate her on the personal motivation. Paige wouldve been the one sister who DIDNT lean on Prue's every word or depend on her approval for action (which means they probably wouldve argued alot too lol).

I still feel that Prue was the best of the four but of the current crop, i cant deny that Paige has definately picked up where Prue left off in terms of proactivity and tenacity.

Farrah, I do declare you've made a believer out of me! : yikes : I didn't see that one coming. If you'd have asked me a day ago before this mini debate, I would have said my dream team of charmed was Piper, Phoebe and Paige... but you're right, Prue did bring a lot of power to the mix, and you're right about how she would have been with Paige... so yeah, I guess I gotta say that Prue, Piper, Paige would be the greatest combination : superhap

Although I still believe Paige is the better sister over Prue... for the reasons I've said... thats an argument that's never gonna be solved

Doll, this is a case where you should listen to your elders (namely myself and the lovely Darkchilde) and come to terms with the fact that Prue made the most impact! Whatever i say is likely echoing darkchilde, so i'll just point out that prue had the most kick ass power, and she had a matching personality to boost.

I chose Prue. I think she made the biggest impact, 'cos she was there from the beginning, and Phoebe & Piper used to look up to her.
Paige is my favourite character now, but i still think that Prue made the biggest impact.

I enjoy the show when Prue was on... But Now that Paige has been on for the Last Couple of Years I've got use to her.. So I liked them both..

But I picked Paige sense she is the one I'm use to right now. :bounce:

I perfer Prue cos she was great..although I still think Paige is good but she is no.2 for me..🙂

Prue was great on the show, but after she died and Paige came then I kind of got used to seeing Paige and stuff.Do you guys see what I'm saying?I like Prue, but it was kind of time for her to go,and let someone else come into the power of three, and I think Paige did that wonderfully. So,no doubt I love Prue, but I think I prefer Paige now.
