Remember Smile Time? Well, imagine if there was an entire, R-rated version of it. 😂 This film is called The Happy Time Murders, and I'm pretty sure the writers are fans of Smile Time. Yay, puppets! 👼👸👲👯👷🙊👱👀👄👮

I heard about this the other day and the first thing that came to mind wwas whether they'd been inspired by 'Smile Time'. The resemblance to the Angel puppet may just be a coincidence though since the Jim Henson Company were involved in making 'Smile Time' anyway, so it could just be part of their standard concept design for puppet versions of people.
 
I saw a segment on this movie on the news. The panel there said it tainted childhood muppet memories lol. Its a miss for me
 
It's just not very original. They took a good all-ages movie and updated it with a bunch of R-rated jokes to make it feel like it was new and edgy. It's not new and it's not really edgy.

I was thinking the plot and premise is pretty much spot on with Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Just replace toons with puppets and add some dirty jokes. It's the same movie.
Melissa McCarthy is enough to make me want to see it. Add Maya Rudolph and I need to see it. Plus, there's a buncha dirty jokes and puppets so I'm definitely gonna watch this.

you know, I kinda feel this remark! I have very squicky feelings when people make rudeness out of things kids play with. and Melissa McCarthy just hasn't given me any reason to celebrate.
@DeepBlueJoy I don't care about them making rudeness out of things kids play with- I loved Ted ffs. I just don't like puppets. Especially puppets that are made to look like people.
