This book picks up right where the last episode of Buffy leaves off...if you guys want to know what went down afterwards you should read it. It is an awesome book, and if you have read it then discuss please.
 
There are MANY threads that have discussed this book and there is even a 'Book Discussion Group' that would be better suited for this thread.
However, I have to say this book is utter tripe.
Its possibly the worst one i've read from the Buffy genre. The opening is atrocious, the characterizations are poorer than alot of fanfiction.
Honestly, had I not read other works from Nancy Holder in this area I would think she had not seen an episode of the show but rather basing the story on some publishers dry synopsis.
 
I've heard people express confusion as to what they're going to think of these after Season 7 books once Joss Whedon comes out with his canon Season 8 comic series in March.
 
Nancy Holder wrote my all time favorite Buffy book, The Book of Four...but this book does not even come close to that book. Queen of the Slayers was a disaster. like BOTD said, the opening is lame, the characterizations are so off i wanna rewrite the damn book myself. i was so looking forward to this book after the end of the show, and it was a total let down. i read it once when it came out and stuffed it into the back of my closet...last month i decided that maybe i was being too hard on the book, so i took it out, read it again...it;s now back in the cloest under that Spice Girls T-Shirt i don't want anyone to know about...oops...
this story could have actually been pretty good, if Holder had thought less of turning her daughter into a Slayer, and concentrated more on the emotions the characters were going through at the time.
and by the way, what was the deal with the semi-werewolves at the start?
 
While I do like this book, and have taken it as the 'ending' of Buffy after the episodes... I have a very strong feeling that it is going to clash severely with the canon comics coming out by Joss.

I think the werewolves were just for fun! 🙂
 
I also have to agree that this book was crap, I was utterly disappointed with i as i was hoping it would give me some temporary answers to classic buffy questions but it just left me feeling dissatisfied and confused
 
I can't believe that the majority of you did not like this book...that boggles my mind...I loved it.
 
I liked and disliked it, i disliked the cheesy we are the children ending plus it puzzled me alot, i also disliked the way the scoobies at the immortal's was written it sounded like a Danielle Steel novel!

I thought the beggining was crap nothing to do with the plot but what i did like was that some slayers were rising up and being corrupted causing Buffy's job to be a pain, but not the idea of a"queen of slayers" please very cheesy!
 
I haven't read any of the books. I'm curious about something. Are there any others which deal with the whole after Season 7 thing? If so, how do the details of what happens after Season 7 differ from this ones?

Omg you should so totally go and pick this book up then...it tells you everything...it even tells you if Angel and Spike survive the battle against Wolfram and Hart.
 
Maybe, but there are a multitude of fanfics I can get for free that will tell me similar stuff.

Is Queen of the Slayers the only commercial book where writers imagine what they think might happen after Season 7?

Trust me, of the many people that visit this site and understand Buffy, YOU will not enjoy this.
Its just atrocious. See most of the above comments🙂

I think it is.
Fanfic, well I don't mind fanfiction take on this story because its basically the fan thats giving themselves closure BUT a commercial book should NEVER have attempted this. For that ONLY Joss(or the closest writers to the show) have that priviledge.

Books set years from now that don't go into detail are fine, but some hack writer detailing this stuff is wrong.
 
I was told "Queen of the Slayers" was a really complicated intricate book. I'm not big on things like this. To me Buffy is a tv show. I really don't think I'd enjoy a non canon take on after season 7 events.

And IF it really is as bad as you all are making out, there's definitely no way I could read it. I'd buy it, read the first chapter, then bin it.

The first chapter is the worst one too.
They shared a moment, Slayer and Watcher, mentor and student, survivor and survivor.
Two friends.
Then she could hold her grief no longer. A tear coursed down Buffy's cheek.
"Spike died bravely," Giles said Gently.
"He died," Buffy replied, her voice catching, "like a champion."
Yes. I...Perhaps I misjudged him." He pushed up his glasses.
"Ya think?" she said archly, but her feeble attempt at humour failed. Then she sid, "Angel offered to wear the amulet, Giles. Would the same thing have happened to him? Maybe it would have been different. Or..." she trailed off

Buffy moved forward with Robin. After this, I'll make sure no one else-
There was a strange roar behind her as Andrew screamed her name. "Buffy!"
A tremendous burst of heat whooshes from the floor, scorching her feet. She heard nothing but a fierce thunder as she lurched forward. Flames erupted and shot along the side of the bus, then spewed from the floor.
I'm going to die after all, She thought.
I'm going to die like Spike.

Holy crap! That first one is horrendous. Truly, truly dire. Sounds like this author is a Spike fan. Not a bad thing really. But bias crops into your writing and it taints the characters because of it.

And those were the better ones....well i say better, I had to write them up myself and they had the least to do cause i'm lazy while still demonstrating how they suck.
 
You have to be really motivated to get into it. If you're not a reader that has to be hooked right away, you'll be fine. But, if you prefer to be enthralled right away, such as most readers are, then this probably isn't the book for you! 🙂
