at the Con this weekend, i got to talking to some guys about Buffy and Angel as we waited for the closing ceremony. most of the conversation centered around, as usual, Bangel Vs. Spuffy, but one guy came out with something that i found very interesting, so i wanted to share it with you guys.

he asked me if Joss new, from the very beginning, if he was planning on killing Jenny sometime in the future, which was why he named her Jenny Calender...as in, her days are numbered. i thought that was awesome, and a very Joss thing to do.

i know in the show that had her name linked to the Kalderash clan, but this could have been exactly that, just a way to tie it into the show.

what do you guys think?

That actually makes a lot of sense and I have never thought of that before. That's really clever. Now that you've got me thinking about it, I think that's probably the case, but there's always room to be wrong of course.

I think that Joss had the idea of killing off a popular member (or members) of the cast if the story line developed along lines that would make that the way he wanted his story to develop. I don't think he started out with a definite character in mind.

great idea.

whether joss was planning to kill her off or not, i think she would have left anyway. in case you havent followed robia lamortes bio, she became a born again christian around season 2. she was actually upset when she learned that the camio she played in season 3 (the one where angel is seeing all the people that he killed in the past) was actually the derived from hell (maybe satan or another demon or something).

I think Jenny was only supposed to be in one episode, I Robot, You Jane, but she and Giles had so much chemistry, Joss brought her back.

Yeah, I think that was it Slayerpower. And you have to admit the chemistry was great between them. I think Robia said in an interview once that the irony was that while Jenny was very liberal and Giles is reserved, in real life she is very conservative and Tony's very liberal. hehe. column marked irony in my book. hehe. Didn't Joss originally have her name as Nikki Calendar? But it got too confusing with Nick Brendon on set?

Joss had planned on killing a 'scoobie' during season 2. Originally he planned to kill Oz but the character got so popular he decided against it nd so instead jenn got the axe!

It makes sense though. He wanted to kill someone important but not important enough that it would prevent Angel from being accepted again.
