Question about the "Previously on Buffy/Angel"

Before an episode starts there's a "Previously on Buffy/Angel" they show a recap scene of a previous episode for example

in the Previously on for Angel Episode "The Thin Dead Line", the first recap bit of that scene, shows of Kate's father's death.

Do they recap scenes of what will be talked about in the upcoming episode? sorry if this doesn't make sense.

Yeah, I always thought they showed scenes that were relevant to that episode.

In Angel it seems they try to recap the things that are important to the episode, Buffy's were more sometimes they were sometime it was a bit more general, but I don't remember Buffy's one as much as the Angel ones

Yeah they showed things from previous episodes which were going to be relevant to the upcoming eppy. I hated this especially when it involved a returning character because it gave away the surprise of them turning up in the episode. I also had to watch the opening scenes holding one hand up to cover the bottom portion of the screen so I didn't see any guest cast names.
