Question about Willow

Hey.. my bro and I were watching the latest episode of Buffy, and he had an interesting question about Willow. Did something happen to her parents? Or have they just not been around during the whole evil willow thing..
 
Hmm..Last I heard about either of Willow's parents was in season 3 in "Gingerbread". They were always out of Willow's life so my guess they probably lost complete contact with her when she went to college.
 
strange, cause in the first couple seasons they came off as being really overprotective? like they wouldn't want boys in her room, ect
 
Well she's probably distanced herself as well being that she's a witch who likes chicks. Parent's are sometimes kinda fickle about those things 🙂
 
after her mother wanted to burn her and amy turned into a rat lol we never saw them again 😉 don't know why.... 🙄
 
Now that the group is old enough to live without parents I guess the writers just decided they were out of the picture. Good point, though.
 
Yep, I'm full of good points ^_^ it was a good decision to take the parents out of the story, we didn't need them, you're right
 
hmmm. if i remember correctly - after the episode "The Body" Willow makes a comment (i think it was to Xander) that since Joyce's death she has been checking in w/ her mother - or stopping by to see her more often - something like that - as at that point she was living in the college dorms.

or did i just make that up in my head? does anyone else remember?
 
i rember that *nods* and i thught it was completely out of character for willow
shes not supposed to even *like* her mother and where is this orthodox jewish father we hear about (charlie brown christmas etc.)?
but if you think about it
none of the parents really ever (excluding joyce whos now dead and no longer has any relevance to this discussion 🙁 ) had anything to do with the life of their children
i mean the most cordy ever siad about her parents was the spandex pants comment in band candy
and the confiscating candles and black clothing in Gingerbread
and for xander it was mainly only mentioned when they did round robbins
and in Amends when he sleeps outside at christmas
and then at r5the wedding
the parents are only thrown in now and again to bring realism to their lives
and since theyre all in college now, its kinda not eralistic to think that theyre parents (who were already absent) would be having any kind of effect on their lives in any way, shape or form

Her best friend's mom just died, and you don't think it's in character for Willow to show some appreciation for her own mom? I think it was totally in character, and totally cool. She was basically saying, "Yeah, we're not close. But now I realize how important to take advantage of the time she's here." Very realistic, IMO
 
Yeah your probably right, I think Willow is above the "I don't like my mom"-thing and thus it's logical that's she visits her mom.
 
Being in college is a time to start branching out on your own without depending so much on your parents, but let's face it, the Scoobies were on their own much earlier than most kids their age. They were privy to the scary underworld of Sunnydale, which their parents didn't even WANT to know about. Even Joyce, who was the kewlest mom I've seen on TV, didn't know what was going on for quite a while - and she was better off that way in the beginning. Would YOU want to know that your daughter risked her life every night, fighting demons and vampires, with the very real threat of her not coming home, ever? I think that Joyce was the exception - Buffy DID eventually tell her, but the other parents weren't anywhere near ready to accept this kind of a lifestyle. Hell, Willow's parents wouldn't have been able to accept any of her choices, even the more realistic ones, like her sexual preference. The show is better without their "real life" lectures - don't we, as fans, get enough of that as it is?
