Can anyone think of any specific examples of Spike saying something good about Angel, and vice versa? I'm writing a meta on Spangel and I could really use the help.

Thanks in advance!

In the flashbacks of The Girl in Question, Spike says some nice things about Angelus. That's honestly all I can think of.

I'm watching hat episode right now.

I do have a lot of good examples, actually, of Angel saying good things about Spike.

But Spike speaking well of Angel? Not so much, lol.

Hmmm, Angel said he liked Spike's poems in "Hellbound." Maybe you can also count their scene together in "Damage," where Spike mentions how they both use to be innocent victims once upon a time. Spike also says, "Hey Angel's getting some. Good on you, mate" in "Life of the Party." I think that could count too, lol 😀

I have those already. Thanks!
Angel Called Spike A Hero (or told cordelia off screen in S5 Your Welcome)

*CORDELIA: And you called this guy the big hero?
SPIKE: (surprised) You called me a hero?

Spike has commented on Angel's excellent grooming techniques; especially concerning his use of hair gel and how he smells like peaches.

And he's always mentioning how tall he is...when he wears the shoes with lifts.

Plus; he was one of the few people to be overjoyed for Angel when he became a puppet.

See; Spike has lots of good things to say about Angel.

😀

Truthfully I think the only good thing Spike ever said about him was how he was his "yoda"; and that has evil connotations so not exactly hugs and puppies.

I think Spike's actions have always shown that he seeks approval from Angel(us). Whether in being evil or fighting the good fight he wants the mans respect.

Exactly. Spike clearly cares for Angel and does want his respect, just doesn't really vocalize it.
True, Spike may not like Angel all that much personally, but I think he's got respect for what Angel's trying to do. The original vampire with a soul, and he'll probably always be his "Yoda". Remember in NFA when Spike is the first one to raise his hand for Angel's suicide mission? He clearly trusts him a lot.

In Destiny, when Angel and Spike are riding in the carriage. Spike is full of admiration and awe about Angel.

The thing with Spike, I think, is that his admiration of Angel is implied. It is quite obvious in the flashbacks in that he wants Angel's approval and indeed learns how to be a effective vampire from Angel. It becomes harder to see once souls get involved. In Tabula Rasa Spike unwittingly describes his ideal self as very similar to Angel - it's played for laughs but it's still there. And in season five of Angel one of Spike's biggest driving factors is the desire to have Angel recognise him as an equal.

Great points! Thank you.
I think Spike's actions have always shown that he seeks approval from Angel(us). Whether in being evil or fighting the good fight he wants the mans respect.

This is a very strong insight into Spike's character. He admits in Destiny that everything he did when he was evil was to try to live up to Angelus's expectations.

Ok, great points everyone.

So, we have good examples of instances in which Spike is clearly seeking Angel/us's approval and respect, but what about vice versa?
