Questions?

Just wondering what the best (and easiest/cheapest) graphics programme there is to use as at the moment I don't have one.

I'm happy to buy a programme, but I'm not sure which is best! I get confused with Paint shop, Photoshop, GIMP, CS3? If anyone could help me out with which is best, and where to buy it'd be much appreciated!

I use Photoshop CS3 at home, and I love it.
Gimp is free, I think. You download it from the web.

Psp (Paint Shop Pro) is probably the cheapest. I bought mine about 2 years ago for around £70 - £80. that was PSPX, they're now on PSPXI.

Photoshop is quite expensive. I bought an older copy (PS CS2) online about a month ago which was £170. And that was a BIG discount. I saw pricess reach the high £600's.

If this isn't something you think you'll be investing in all that much, my advice is to stick with PSP or Gimp.

So will these tutorials be like open to everyone or just those who sign up... Because this sounds so amazing but sadly i no longer have internet at home so it would be hard for me to participate in it I mean kinda How much time would we have to complete the homework? A few days? A week? A few weeks?

You have to sign up for the classes, I'm afraid, so that each tutor knows who is in their class, and knows who to expect 'homework' from.

There will be a minimum of a week to get your homework finished.

Rebecca, Photoshop and CS3 are one in the same. CS3 is a version of Photoshop. Stands for Creative Suite 3.

Here is where you can get gimp (for free)
GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

I would recommend starting with that.. it is easier to spend money to move up, than to UNspend money if you decide to go a different direction.

Yeah, thanks for the linkage, downloading GIMP now :)
Wow have you guys not had work to do today!

I'm quite taken a back by the interest in this and part of me wishes I didn't announce it so soon so we could have hammered it out more but I could not resist whipping you into a frenzy.

Thank you for all the questions so far, please be aware that the answers may change (with notice) and nothing will be rigid, for example the higher level tutorials may have longer completion times. These are things we won't know until we fully discuss them with the tutors as after all they are the ones in the know. Over the next few evenings we will be posting more threads in this forum to keep you up to date and to get your ideas and suggestions on things. As I said before this will not be a short time thing so if you don't have time to take part now you can always take part later.

So keep your eyes peeled for all the latest info, as soon as we have it you will know it - but I don't want to give away anymore until I confirm with all the tutors as thats not fair 😉

I'm thinking some great excuses are gonna be used in schools and colleges around the world are about to come.

Teacher: Why haven't you completed your assignment?
BB Member: Well, i had a deadline on the Buffy Boards for my art class.
Teacher: Thats Just not good enough.

Haha, I'm good though I do all my homework 😀

This isn't a question, as much as it a suggestion. I think it would be beneficial for each student to submit a piece of artwork so the teachers can help decide what level we're at as well. My definition of "beginner" or "intermediate" is probably very different from someone else's definition.

Thats a very good suggestion. Of course those that have never done graphics before wont have to do this as that alone sets their level. But I will certainly take this on board and work with it.

Re: submissions. Does it have to be Jossverse? Does it have to be a banner? or is it free to do as we please?

You can submit a banner or wallpaper, as those would be the easiest for us to judge by.

And yes, it must be Jossverse.

thank you
will there be another chance to join these classes other than this initial time? if there's homework, i dont think i have time to meet deadlines right now, but if i begin to feel i do, is there like a fresh start each year, or something?

Do I have to submit the only piece I've done if I definitely want to be in beginner?

If you want to start at the very bottom then i'm fine with that - you don't have to submit a piece.

NIX - pick the one that you think covers most of your skills.

You are not invisible hun🙂

I'm not specifically involved in the Art Class as such so don't take my word as gospel but...

The new class thing is something I think we are still hammering out. It is definitely something we want to be able to do. This took off so fast it kinda caught us by surprise. We still have a few knuts and bolts to tighten. As soon as we have a definite answer we will tell you.

Faith has said a few times that they are planning this long-term, so people who are busy now can join in later. Somewhere.
