Quick question about something near the end of season 5

Near the end of The Weight Of The World, Spike and Xander go to Doc's place and they talk and then Doc moves to hide the carved box from their sight. They fight and Doc throws the box into the fire. After Doc is defeated Spike picks up the box from out of the fire and he and Xander leave.

My question: what happened to the box? Did I miss something in The Gift? Doc went through the trouble of throwing it in the fire, so I was thinking it was something important. But the finale came and went and the box never made an appearance. Did the writers of the show make a gaffe?

Does it show up in season 6 or 7?

As far as I can remember, the contents of the box are what Giles is reading from at the end of that ep/beginning of 'The Gift', when he says that the way to stop Glory is to kill Dawn, when they find out what exactly Glory's ritual entails, namely, the letting of Dawn's blood.

'"The blood flows, the gates will open. The gates will close when it flows no more." When Dawn is dead.'
