As an avid watcher one thing that confuses me on reflection that someone her can perhaps help me with is I never understood Cordelia's connection with Jasmine correctly we know Cordelia wasn't herself and had indeed been possessed by something that turned out to be Jasmine but why did these things happen:

Blocking the sun
The Beast
Bringing Back Angelus

what connection did these events have to Jasmine and why were the necessary the only real explanation I could come up with was to distract the crew while Cordy was pregnant but that seemed flawed.

Can anyone help me here maybe I missed something or mis-understood something.

Here's an explanation. I'm not sure if it's a good one, or not, but I always got the impression it was misdirection. Get the good guy's dealing with one set of problems so they don't see the true problem.

So why didn't Jasmine simply kill off Angel and his crew once she stopped having a use for them? The reasoning would go, she felt some kind of familial connection to them, and preferred not to kill them.

There are other theories. One is mentioned on another thread - maybe Jasmine had an alliance with The First.

Motives are often fuzzy throughout Buffy/Angel. Why did Lindsey bring back spike? Why did The First evil want Faith dead, but Buffy alive? You can create theories, but is there any kind of 100% supportable, cut and dry, fully satisfactory explanation. I'm not sure there is. It's like trying to figure out why Hezbollah would abduct Israeli border guards, when the Palestinian territories had been invaded the week before for doing the same thing.

This is purely a personal theory but regarding the whole blocking out of the sun idea and why she didn't kill off Angel and his team, I think later episodes explained that away quite nicely.

Jasmine's plan was to create a heaven on earth and that included destroying the demon life on the planet. A great way to begin would be to have them all come to her and her own personal army of champions. What better way to gather vampires to one place then to create the one place where sunlight was no longer an issue.

I believe that she wanted to keep LA in darkness long enough to be born into her new form and then use Angel and the guys to wipe out all the vamps and demons that made their way to Los Angeles. After that she would likely have restored the sun herself.

The Beast was just an appropriately powerful lackey (as Angelus said himself) who she thought would be able to get the job done and having Angelus back ensured that the rest of the A.I. team were looking the wrong way whilst she was carrying out her plan.

Again, just a theory but it all fits with what we saw play out on the show.
