Quit making the comics

Like Five by Five, I wait for the collected editions, then it's not very expensive to buy the comics on the net (Swedes- try Adlibris, 119 SEK, no postage).
And I like them, they are certainly better than nothing.
But I too was a bit surprised to see the strong response to Pernilles posting.

Im not a big fan of the comics myself but they show comming back is unlikely. We have to make do and im just glad I get to see the story.

That cheap huh? Sounds like a plan. But since I have all the comics this far that means I have to wait several months to get the new collected editon. Waiting one month is hard enough. But I guess it might be worth it in the end. I´m gonna give it some serious thought.

Why not just steal the comics?
I for one do actually have hope that in the future there will be Buffyverse stuff on tv, maybe not with SMG and DB but that dosnt matter, there must be something they can do.

Bad influence much? 😛 I'm only thirteen you know, what if I followed your advice? 😉

piece of advice: listening to willy's mad mutterings = usually bad idea ;)
I don't mind the comics.
I would love to be cruel and make the poor actors do nothing but amuse me for the rest of their lives, but that wouldn't really be all that nice. And, even though we're all evil, we should all strive to be better non-evil people!

Right, we need a large cardboard box with a big square cut out of one side to look like a TV, and some very strong string to tie to their hands and feet. The we can make Xander do the Snoopy Dance all day long! MWHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

on Whedonesque today, there was a Buffy cut-out..things that make you go hmm..

wouldn't that be fun! never ending Buffy.....
I think the comics are cool. I'm not gonna whine that we don't have a TV show, because, well... we're probably not going to have another one. To me, it's a good exception from the show.

I'm happy with the comics.

I really like that Joss is doing what no other creator has done. He's showing us where and what the characters have gone to after the finale.

I definitely see where you're coming from, Rachel. I would definitely rather see SMG, JM, and the rest saying the lines for me (much better for my eye candy as well), but for a starving fan, I'll take them. The graphics are really good, and I picture the voices as I read.

I'm with willy, in that I never say never (not the stealing **thwap**)..

I'm looking forward to the comics....On the bright side, Joss is playing ball with comps for awhile now.

I had a Buffy lookalike for a computer game awhile back...

So it begs the question? Animated or CG?

In my happiest of happy places (as far as Buffy goes) a Mr. Burton and Mr Whedon are cranking out goodness like IHOP births pancakes...ahh to dream!

Whatever role Buffy takes next, I think I want it as a departure from TV, be it animated or comp generated ala Burton or whatever, I just want it different than the show....unless they all would come back and do another show...

I don't want a near substitute in look and feeling, I'm weird like that.

(One reason why the comics are something I'm looking mucho forward to is that different look.)

I'm making things up. I'll elaborate about my dream though. Cut those two loose together with both a comp and some stop motion and look out!!!!

Stop motion and directing work pretty well together I think, but to achieve a halfway belieavable fight scene I bet they'd need CG, but with Burtonesq flair.

(pretty sure Burtons thinking hard on CG, least that what my nephew told me, and he -nephew- traded an internship at Pixar through Full Sail to make babies! he knew alot about this sort of thing.)

Burton CG? Are you making things up, or am I being unbelievably dense?
While I understand that some people may not appreciate the comics, and I absolutely wish these people all the best in hoping for a new TV series, I don't think it's fair of them to want the fun to stop for those of us who DO like the comics. Just my 2 cents.

I just look at it this way - we are a lucky, lucky fandom to even have the comics, sure, they are not filmed stories with our actors but they are the product of their creators brain and most other defunct shows would have to live without any continuation of the story. I do sympathise with the cost thing though. It is a pain. Even if you can't buy the books, transcripts of the comics are usually posted somewhere on the internet within days of their publication so then you can still keep up with the story. Anyone here would also happy to give a rundown of events if you ask.

No keep making them.... its all we have! and if you dont want them, watch your dvds of what you do have.

CONGRATS on the MotM! And that Banner you got ROCKS! Love the over the shoulder look!
Here in France I only have to pay 4€15 per comic, that's to say 6.24$ or 3.14£. I don't even know how much it costs in the US. I don't think it's too expensive. I buy the TPBs after that (because I share comics with a friend and after one of us buys the TPB), they're six times more expensive in the shop but only like 2-3 times on Amazon or such.

As for the comics, I think when you've adapted to the new format, it's really addictive, and I look forward to a new "episode" the same way I looked forward to a new TV episode. Only problem, you have to wait longer. But remember : it's Joss. Joss never disappoints. =D Every time I've doubted, he showed me it was all a masterplan and I ended up loving every bit of it. I sound like a fanatic. I'm not a fanatic. I'll be shutting up now.

Hahaha I know what you mean. Even myself I would like to have a TV or a movie...
Finding a cheap and secured comics on the net is not easy and also bout the shipping payments it deals a lot.

Buying 24 comics in my local comic book store, each costing € 2,84, costs a total of € 68.16. Which converted back to dollars is exactly a $ 100.

Buying 24 comics in the US, each costing the original price of $ 2.99, will costs a total of $ 71.76. So, I don't think the prices that we pay are really that outrageous.

And, if you want a good online store, just check out eBay. I've ordered three issues through eBay and they all arrived relatively fast, costing only about 20%-40% more than the original price.

Im just wondering, all the people that buy the comics, is it pretty much because they are canon?
If they were not canon but it was still Joss and the other Buffy writers doing them would you still get them?

I would...canon schmanon, if Joss was in charge, it's his baby, I'd read 'em.

Totally with you, Dlou444.
Canon or not, it's not the big thing here. The written-by-Joss-Whedon is.

I think that's the main reason for many. It helps that S8 is very enjoyable.
