I really envy all of you guys who were here from the beginning of the show. What a show it is! I assume this board was here while the show was on and a good number of you were on it then. That must have been fun. I can only imagine what it was like to talk about all of these fabulous eps when they were being watched by the masses for the first time. I saw Fool For Love yesterday for the first time. That was truly a great one. So many great ones. All of you who were here from the beginning are lucky. You have already felt that sense of loss when the show ended. I still have that coming in the near future. It will be a real bummer.
 
Think about it this way: those who watched it years ago and know the series already are jealous of people like you who see it for the first time, without knowing what's gonna happen, everything is new and exciting. We have finished the show, we don't have new episodes to watch for the first time. YOU are lucky for a brand new show that you just started watching as clear canvas.

I agree with that one it drives me nuts to wait week to week.
I understand what you are saying, but it would have been more fun to watch it with the majority of the fandom. While it's great to be learning new things about the show, almost daily, there are little things that you come across when interacting with people who already watched the show, that you wouldn't have wanted to know ahead of time. While I don't know quite how it all ends, I have an idea of what is gonna go on, so it's not as fun as finding out when the actual show was on. Nevertheless, being a Buffy watcher has been a great experience and I plan to enjoy it for some time to come.
 
I'm glad you found the show, and are here to bask in the fandom now. 😀

I agree with both of the first two posts. I wish I had boarded this train at the station, but I'm glad I finally discovered it. And, having finished my first watch about two weeks ago, I'm really sad that I don't have any more new episodes to watch. But I'm enjoying my rewatch - will start season 2 today.

I know exactly what your saying. As some one who started the series this past December, i made myself not join BB until I was completely finished the series. Even though my friend told me how Buffy ended, I still wanted to watch it all before I got anymore spoilers! It's tough to wanna talk about it with someone who has already finished the series because they know alot more than you and end up giving stuff away 🙁

There is a way however for you to block certain forums from your view so your not reading spoilers or if you want you can just talk about it with me! lol just let me know where your at in the series and I won't drop any spoilers, promise 🙂
 
@Buffenuff - I only watched season 7 in "real time" with the rest of the world - and it was sheer torture. We were scared for the characters. We hunted for spoilers. When the script of "Chosen" leaked online, fans dissected every line.

I don't know if this board already existed. I spent my tile on "Buffy Cross and Stake" board - it was the biggest spoiler place back in 2002-2004.

I just watched all of BtVS last year, and I'm the opposite of you! I've heard some things about fandom wars getting out of control back when BtVS was airing. Especially once the later seasons rolled around...I might be wrong, but that's just what I've heard from other people. I'd be a little scared to step into that territory.

And I'm really impatient. I like not having to wait between episodes, lol. 😀
 
I lived in both worlds, a little!
Grad Day was my first ep, so I didn't get into the show until summer of '99. I quickly became a regular at the PB, (posting board) and it really was tons of fun. The best part was hopping on the computer right after an episode aired to see what others were saying, and participating in (occasional) live q and a's with writers and directors. In addition, I'd heard that Joss would come to our board immediately after airings to gather feedback, and it was an incredible rush to think that the creator of this brilliant show was taking in our opinions on a regular basis!

Because I missed almost the first 3 seasons entirely, I spent lots of time on the PB trying to piece together everything that had happened before I started watching. Obviously there was no itunes, no netflix, and the WB only occasionally aired past seasons of its shows. None of my friends watched, so I couldn't discuss it with them. So I spent lots of time reading entire transcripts when I could find them, online--not so easy back then.
I found that I was able to successfully piece together a pretty accurate picture of the first three seasons using photos, (which took forever to load), transcripts, and discussions that had taken place on the PB. By the time I actually watched the episodes, I could easily recognize lines and entire scenes; it was as if I'd already seen them. And it was tons of fun to finally see on screen before me the dialogue I had become so familiar with. It was like watching the movie version of my favorite book! A nice little "hands-on," rewarding way to watch the beginning of the series!
 
I watched S6 and S7 in "real time" and it was NOT a happy time at all. 🙁 So much Xander hate and throwing insults at Xander's fans and debates over what's canon and what's not ( kinda like S8 now 😀 )

So, I wish I became a fan much later when fans became sane.

i dunno which way i like to watch a show better...

either with everyone when it airs and you talk the show to death or a pahoop load all at once on dvd and end up reading fanfic to appease your fix cause theres no more of the show left.


Both ways are good and bad, most of the time i'm just glad i found a good tv show.

Agreed.

I watched in real time almost all of the seasons and a lot of the time it was a bit agonizing in truth. I don't regret watching them obviously but it wasn't always a thrill ride😉

The wait, the debates, the wonderings... ah, sometimes it nearly drove you outta your mind🙂
 
I watched the show first-run, and I'm grateful for this forum because it gives me a place to discuss the show with both old and new fans, alike. 🙂 It's always really awesome when you meet someone who's a new fan and soooo excited about the show!
 
That sense of loss you're talking about I totally felt. When the show ended, it was one of those, "What do I do now?" Kind of things. Buffy was such a huge part of my life, and I was very sad to see it end, but at least the fandom never ends! I found this place just last year. I wish I would have known about it when the show was on the air! That would have been fantastic... Talking about Chosen with everyone. The only annoying part was the cliffhangers. Like the end of season 5 arc. (You just saw Fool For Love, so I assume you haven't finished that season yet, so I won't give out and spoilers.) And season 6, the last three episodes. I remember being on the phone to my old friend Chelsea talking about every episode.

But I can see how it would be to see the show for the first time just now... I'm watching Angel for the first time ever, and I'm SO glad I don't have to wait a week or more for new episodes. I've just started season 4.
 
I watched it when I was kid. Around Season Five, I slowly stopped watching. I saw bits and pieces of six and seven as they aired...but I was still fairly young, and wasn't that into television anyway. So although I have rewatched the series (again...and again) a lot of it was new to me (even the episodes I had seen, I hadn't seen in many years). For example, I didn't see "Chosen" until I was 17 years old...I don't remember even knowing that the show was ending in 2003 or whenever it was. And I wasn't exactly part of any fandom when I was 8-12.

So it was really cool, yeah, but it was something I primarily did with my parents since I was a kid. Aside from dressing up as Buffy for Halloween one year (my friend, who went trick-or-treating with me, dressed as a vampire 😛) I didn't connect with any other fans until years after the fact.
 
Yeah the show was with me from the end of primary school all the way through high school and i do remember watching the last episode and having this empty feeling.

I also feel a little sad that I missed the boat on this originally. Boatless. No boat for me.

Discussion with people that are all at the same point in a show is great- I got to do this with Survivor and Lost- it does give a sense of community. Now, many of the discussions I'd like to participate in on Buffy were beaten to death long ago.

I find it very difficult now to watch a show live, especially if the rest of my family isn't interested. It's too easy to miss whole episodes, and to miss important things that happen during an episode. Netfix streaming is awesome. I was able to watch the full seven season Buffy arc in just 4 months (Oct '10- Feb '11). I gotta admit that I was majorly spoiled, though. Fortunately, it just doesn't matter with Buffy. I don't really watch it for plot twists. Best show *ever*, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm currently on my second time through- just starting Season 4. I've also started watching Angel for the first time- my daughter really likes David Boreanaz.
