2. Does Angel really have any Big Bads in S1&5? Season 2 definitely had W&H as the Big Bad, for sure. Darla and Drusilla definitely played big part, but at the end of the day Darla was really a love-interest, and Dru was only in a couple epys. S3 had Holtz (& W&H technically). S4 had The Beast and Jasmine (and Evil Cordy)....
S1 was literally all stand-alones. Even the major story-changers like City of, Hero, Parting Gifts, and To Shanshu in LA were all stand-alones in their own right.
S5 were pretty much a bunch of stand-alones, Spike-centric, Fredllyria-centric, or Circle of the Black Thorn. There was an overlying evil, in W&H, but it was never really a Big Bad like in S1-3.
I disagree. W&H wasn't even in most of the episodes...Well the Big Bad in S1 was W&H. They just didn't appear much through the season.
This is pretty much what I was thinking too. NFA was still awesome with all the showdowns and, admittedly, I still kinda dig the Black Thorn storyline. However, they are totally not the Big Bad. Sure, the members were spread throughout the season, but the actual Circle didn't show up until the 21st episode (or was it 20th?).As for S5 it's (ewwwww) the Circle of the Black Thorn... as much as it pain me to say it. They were TERRIBLE, LOUSY, RUSHED, VOID OF ANY CHARISM OR PERSONALITY and every term there is out there to describe that poor excuse for villains. Joss dropped the ball on this... we deserved to finally have somekind of show off between Angel team and the Senior Partners, not their buffoons on earth.
You're right. It certainly wasn't rushed, Joss mapped out Power Play/NFA before they wrote the first episode of Season 5, and the only thing he changed was switching Buffy out for Drogyn (because of SMG).This is pretty much what I was thinking too.
