I haven't bothered with a Marvel movie in a bit, but I really like Florence Pugh as Yelena. She was the best part of the otherwise thoroughly mediocre Black Widow film and Hawkeye TV series. So I'm glad to hear the good feedback for this one.

They do a lot with Yelena and she gets some really good development. Probably the best use of the character so far

Thanks for the tip! Just watched a trailer and OMG. Sexy Bucky is back....plus Yelena and Red Guardian. I've always loved Red Guardian, he's hilarious! 😄

 
Chaos walking 7/10
I just loved the idea of noise. Its probably got 5 points for that alone. Very cool. I'd like to see more of that world. Expand on that power and the power the women have without it. Otherwise just a chasey movie, but entertaining enough for me. My kind of thing.
 
Templar Nation - 6/10

Even though imdb gives it a 3.3/10 rating, I am inclined to be a bit more generous. This is a low budget movie about archaeologists finding evidence of Templar knights travelling as far as the western deserts of America. Some of the sets have been reused from other movie and television shows and I recall seeing them in TV episodes of Stargate. Overall, it is entertaining but will not get your rapt attention. The archaeologists are hunted by a group of assassins, similar to the way most of the original Knights were hunted, tortured and killed by the Pope's assassins on Friday 13th October, 1307.
 
Uncharted- 6/10

Big fan of the games and this movie acted as kind of a below-par prequel to those, introducing a younger Nathan Drake and Sully on their first adventure. The plot is on the pedestrian side, but the two leads have a nice back and forth. Tom Holland is likable but I felt that Wahlberg was badly miscast as Sully. Sully should be gruff and fatherly but here he's very much annoying and childish big brother.
Some of the set pieces were entertaining and although the finale was over-the-top it was also terrific fun; how can you hate on a flying galleon chase? Certainly better than what Indiana Jones has devolved into.
A sequel is in the works and if they put a bit more effort in and tighten things up it might be a decent watch.
 
Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025) - 5.5/10
Not a standout in the franchise. It had a promising opening, there are enjoyable moments, and Tony Todd’s final ever scene was moving. Overall the plot is just too try hard and lacking in the charm and fun of the franchise at its best. Also close to hours is too long for a FD film, the pacing is sluggish as a result. These films work as fun, switch your brain off 90 minute thrill rides.
 
The Girl in the Pool (2024) - 4/10

Has a few cheesy fun moments. Kevin Pollock is the highlight. Monica Potter has aged quite well. And no Freddie Prize Jr still can’t act🤣

I’d actually rate it at an 8. I thought the characters were great, the deaths were really creative and fun, and I liked the explanation of the rules and how they tried to keep continuity with the previous ones.

I’d say this one was probably on par with 3 for me, and I really liked 3.

Escape from the Bronx (1983) - 4/10

Hard to rate this one because it falls into the classic guilty pleasure, so bad its good tier 😀 Its insanely naff in the best possible way, the sort of movie where you can actually see stunt men or dummies in a number of scenes😛

Monsters of California - 5/10

IMDB rated this as 4.7/10, so I am not far off the norm here. The story is of a teenage boy whose father disappeared a few years ago but he finds top secret documents in his house that were hidden by his father and a GPS that gave indications of where UFO sightings had been. They go out to a forest where they are attacked by a sasquatch but they make it to the cottage of a fugitive scientist who led them to an encounter with a UFO. Of course, government agents are trying to stop them. Cheap thrills but not much substance.
 
The Mystery of the 13th Guest (1943) 5/10
Really had no redeeming qualities at all. Five out of ten is probably generous

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. (1984) 7.6/10
I actually liked this movie quite a bit, but then again, I do tend to like cheesy 80's movies.
 
Speed (1994) - 8.5/10

They really don’t do Blockbusters like this anymore. Maybe the best action movie of the 90s. It’s a stacked cast anyway but Dennis Hopper’s charismatic, hammy villain puts it over the top😁 Fun fact Jeff Daniel’s character was originally going to be the real criminal mastermind.
 
Numb - 6/10

A couple with money problems meet up with a couple who know the location of gold from a heist and they go out into the wilderness to find it. But mother nature freezes the life out of three of the four and the remaining one is left with frostbite leading to amputation of a foot. In the final scene, the cops who are investigating it decide to take the gold.
