From Paris with Love (2010) - 7.5/10
IMDB gives this a 6.4/10 but it's a lot better than that. The story is a young aide in the US ambassador's office in Paris wants to become a more active government agent, so they pair him up with their wildest agent, Charlie Wax, played to perfection by John Travolta and they leave a trail of bodies throughout Paris but they do stop a terror attack on an international government meeting.
Unearthed: The Curse of Nephthys - 4.5/10
IMDB gets this almost right at 4.2/10 but it takes some time to realize that the similar scenes that follow each other with different endings are intended to show that the clairvoyant character has received a premonition that allows him to alter the outcome. Once you get past that, the movie makes sense. The story is of an Egyptian artifact that allows Nephthys, a god of Egypt, to manifest in the earth when a human sacrifice is made.

Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999) - 7/10
Much more fun than its reputation suggests (5.3 IMDB, 32% Rotten Tomatoes). I would have lost the love triangle and cut the boring male lead, but the other main cast are good, it’s fun, with a couple of nice twists.

A decent movie ruined by OTT CGI, and too much going on. The characters are at least likeable, with a strong cast, a few decent gags.

Jerusalem Countdown - 6.5/10
IMDB is excessively harsh giving this a 3.7/10 score. The bad guys have brought seven suitcase nukes into the US and it is up to a pair of three-letter agency operatives to find and neutralize them. There are a number of old-school Hollywood types played by Lee Majors, Randy Travis and Stacy Keach who combine to help the protagonists. The story includes Biblical ideas from the Book of Revelation and near the end, the rapture occurs where people suddenly disappear. It is definitely watchable and interesting, so I don't know what went wrong at imdb.

Youtuber Chris Stuckman's debut horror movie, this was ... okay.
Chris definitely knows his way around the camera, some of the cinematography is gorgeous, and the found footage/doco style that the movie starts with is cool. But once the mockumentary angle is gone, the movie is quite slow and the script is pretty terrible, with a really awful third act and ending. It also felt like Stuckman took cues from a bunch of horror directors/movies he admired and mashed them together, sometimes I felt like I was watching The Blair Witch Project, other times The Conjuring etc. It felt like the film didn't know/have its own identity.
Don't want to be too harsh, given it's a directorial debut, but this film really could have been a lot better.

The Steel Claw (1961) - 5/10
A marine captain who lost a hand in an accident is recalled to duty to rescue a general who has been caught by the Japanese and is being held in the Philippines. With a steel hook to replace his missing hand, he organizes local resistance fighters to get what he came for, but he finds that has changed. Watchable, but not one of the greats.

A fun little heist film. And what a sublime lair Diabolik had. 😍
Mean Streets (1973) - 7.4/10
Obviously not a bad movie, but I really didn't connect with it. I found the both the storyline, and the characters to be quite dull at times.
War of the Worlds: Next Century (1981) - 7.9/10
Another very enjoyable Polish sci-fi film!

Harry Potter and the goblet of fire
This is my next book to read in the series and I thought I'd watch the film first. It has given me motivation to start the book as I got annoyed with the time jumps and changed from the book!

I think I'll give this movie a fair 8/10. The musical pieces are excelent. Plus the screenplay adds an interesting twist to the "lore " of the Wizard of Oz. I look forward to watch its sequel 🙂

I actually did like it even if it left a lot to be desired.

Scream 2- the ultimate; building on the first w/perfect pace, writing, acting, atmosphere, story; plus it has SMG & crazy ghost face killers

toss up between these two which I didn’t overly love but didn’t hate
Scream 7 edges out Scream 2022 bc I much prefer Sydney as the main girl and I hated the inclusion of Billy Loomis in Scream 5 ; the whole requel thing was so unnecessary. the ghost face killers in these two are about equal amounts absurd, tired and still crazy/entertaining.

Scream 6 - waste of nyc, tired killer motivations, bad characters, no good kills, not memorable sadly

So very disappointed in this sequel. Zero story, zero characterisation, no memorable lines, no memorable characters. I literally laughed during some of the kills. The killers were weak, as was their "motivation". Zero meta movie commentary. Chad and Mindy stuck out like sore thumbs. And, worst of all, the film was boring. Definitely the weakest instalment in the franchise.
