Oppenheimer: 6.5/10
For the first 5-10 minutes I felt like I was having a lobotomy because it was very confusing, it's not a film that settles the viewer into what's happening it just expects the viewer to get settled in, likewise it essentially doesn't explain anything to the viewer, it just expects you to know what is happening and the issue for me was that I didn't know about the legal drama with Oppenheimer and that takes up quite a big chunk of the film. After the first 10 minutes I did manage to get engaged with the film and I can recognise some great performances and the discussion surrounding atomic weapons, the 3 hours flew by, but I just have to rate it a bit lower than most because I felt like I was thrown in the deep end.
I'd recommend looking up the history of Oppenheimer and particularly what happens to him after the bombs are dropped before seeing the film if you want to have a better experience watching the film. My dad loved it which is a huge plus but he knows way more about the history than me. The other thing to beware of is that the trailers suggest the film is going to be fast paced like a thriller and it isn't, it's slow paced to be contemplative and most of it is just dialogue- which is fine as a style and I think a lot of the dialogue is well written but know what you're getting into.

I think the vision was really bold and unexpected, it goes in a direction that the advertising didn't suggest and it worked for me. It's a lot of fun but I think some people might have a negative reaction to it because it's making a strong statement that some will disagree with. Personally I respect and agree with the statement so I enjoyed it. I don't think it's a film that's for or caters to young children at all a lot of it will go straight over their heads.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One 10/10
I have waited to see this installment in the Mission Impossible movies and when the opportunity presented itself, I took it. I got chills as it started. As a huge fan of the Mission Impossible movies I have enjoyed every one more than once. It was my first Mission Impossible movie that I have seen in the theater and I was not disappointed one bit. After it was over I felt like it was the best Mission Impossible movie ever. I was on the edge of my seat and loved every minute of it. The plot and the acting were superb. I felt like I had been transported to another world. The part I loved the best was the stunts and I feel like they were the best of all the stunts that have ever been done in these movies. I also felt like they pushed the envelope with the stunts this time. The action and intensity never let up and, of course the Mission Impossible intro along with the names of the actors was just the icing on the cake. I want to see it again.

Spent all week locked up in my apartment, too sick to focus on anything...so I watched a bunch of Lifetime movies 😀 (some are not Lifetime, but only a few)
Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey (2018) - 7/10
Surprisingly good, even though you could tell it wasn't well-funded. The actors, particularly the lead, did what they were supposed to, and for a based-on-a-true-story film, they stayed pretty close to the facts without exaggerating something for dramatic effect. It was also well-paced at only 1h27m.
Berlin Syndrome (2017) - 6.5/10
I liked the first half and the ending, but in the middle, it dragged a bit; it was probably the point, for the viewer to feel as isolated as the characters, but it just came off a little too boring and tiring than films like that are supposed to. I enjoyed the actors, again, but there were things I had to look up online because it confused me and it loses at least half a point for not being clear enough 🙂
10x10 (2018) - 4/10
The casting was too good for how bad the script (and acting) was. Very disappointing, I almost stopped watching it at least twice. It was very cliche and unoriginal, for being a film with 'twists and turns'.
Room (2015) - 3/10
I didn't expect this, but I really didn't like this award-winning film; I ended up jumping through it to the end at one point just to get through the middle of it and then I turned it off when there was still, like, forty minutes left. Didn't impress me, whatsoever. Can't even say if I liked the performances, Larson felt lackluster and the boy was not one of the great child performances that we are lucky to get sometimes.
To Catch a Killer (2023) - 7.5/10
Very surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Both Woodley and Mendelsohn were really great and I loved the tight, dialogue-heavy script. It, unfortunately, fell apart a bit in the end, but until those last twenty minutes, it was quickly becoming one of the best films I've seen this year (from this year, too, lol). I'd definitely recommend it, though, despite the ending.
The Artifice Girl (2023) 8.5/10
This was completely not what I expected; I almost don't want to say too much because not having expectations will help a lot. All I can say is that I kept saying to myself how much I loved it throughout most of it. There really wasn't anything I didn't like, but I'm trying to be more conscious of how many 9s and 10s I give out 😛
The Mother (2023) - 7/10
Exactly what was on the tin and it was kinda nice to have J.Lo back on my screen, I haven't personally seen any of her stuff since the '00s. Very reminiscent of Hanna, in a good way I think. I loved the use of music, particularly in the scene where she first rescues Zoe in that house.
Psycho Sweet 16 (2022) 5/10
A fun film if you know you're about to watch something super bad, which is just what I wanted at the time 🙂
Mercy (2023) - 4.5/10
For a bad movie, it was pretty bad, but I got some fun out of familiar faces and the Irish accents.
Hunt Club (2023) - 7/10
Absolutely perfect 'so bad it's good' film, IMO. Complete with death scenes where they don't show you the actual kill, just the arm holding the knife and then cut-to a bloody wound, it was absolutely hilarious. Would definitely watch this again, the next time I'm in a similar mood.
A Podcast to Die For (2023) - 6/10
I enjoyed it, but it wasn't a good movie. Again, that's what I wanted, so I guess I got exactly what I asked for.
Deadly Switch (2019) - 7/10
Surprisingly good for a low-cost Lifetime movie; decent performances, not totally awful script, and even a few twists that I totally didn't see coming. And, yes, most of these films are thriller/crime, cause I was in a mood for three days 🙂
Sleeping with Danger (2020) - 5/10
Starring our very own Elisabeth Röhm and she was just about the best part of this film. Part of my feelings about it stems from being misled by the summary; the film was not at all about what it says in the summary, so be prepared if you're watching it. It was enjoyable, but I wouldn't watch it again.
Secrets at the Lake (2019) - 6.5/10
Perfect Lifetime movie, it gives you exactly what you'd expect from it; cliche writing, and so-so acting, but with fun if predictable twists and turns. I had great fun with it.
Trapped Model (2019) - 5/10
I needed a reviewer to put to words how I felt; the actress was completely wooden. She's supposed to be held against her will and yet doesn't appear remotely scared nor like she really wants to leave, particularly during scenes where she's supposed to attempt to escape. Eye-rollingly bad acting, from pretty much the whole cast. Script wasn't awful, though.
Girl in the Basement (2021) - 7.5/10
Directed by Elisabeth Röhm and inspired by the true story of Josef Fritzl (if you know, you know); this was actually pretty good. Breakfast Club alumn, Judd Nelson, did a fine job of being creepy and awful, and the pacing was fairly on point, moving the story along. There was one glaring error that could confuse a viewer, but it's not like you're expecting too much from something like this. Would absolutely watch this again someday.
You're Not Safe Here (2021) - 4/10
That was bad and not in a good way. I think I saw this on Wednesday when I was at my sickest, and I was probably in too much pain to skip over it, otherwise, I can't explain how I finished it.
Secrets of a Gold Digger Killer (2021) - 5/10
Julie Benz! God, did this movie make so many mistakes, especially since it was based on a true story (which I had seen Deadly Women do an episode on in the past); they hired the wrong actors (not that Julie doesn't carry this film), they were supposed to have a 49-year age-gap and yet Julie Benz does not convincingly play a 30-year-old, so she and the husband just look the same age, and the daughter looks like the same age as her dad, it was fully confusing. Add on the girls that are supposed to be 17-year-old twins, yet they look nothing alike and are played by actors that are 25 and 28 respectively. They clearly didn't care about this film whatsoever.
The Weekend Away (2022) - 7.5/10
I found this on a list of Lifetime movies, but I would be shocked if it actually belonged there; it is genuinely good! Leighton Meester is not super amazing, but she makes me believe her, as the lead. The mystery unfolding is fun to follow, and even though some stuff is predictable, I was genuinely surprised by one particular twist, and a few smaller ones, which made the film for me. I also couldn't stop thinking about it once it was over, which is usually a good sign for me.

I could've used a braver ending, but I loved the pacing and the intense suspensive atmosphere. Having no subtitles for the almost 60% Romanian dialogue as a way of isolating us as much as the American lead worked really well for me and I was reminded of the great crime thrillers I grew up reading. I really wanted a less 'American' or 'Hollywood' ending, so that drags the rating down a bit, unfortunately. Great film!

As my last movie (I was getting better) I decided to step out of my Lifetime list and watch this for Ashley Benson, who wrote, produced, and starred in this low-budget horror; and I really enjoyed it. Some stuff could've been better and for a movie titled Alone at Night, there were an awful amount of characters coming into her cabin at night to visit. Great cameo by Pamela Anderson, who I haven't seen in anything in a long time 🙂[/ISPOILER]

A gripping, stylish film ( I saw it in 35mm). It is a bit overlong, dragging a bit in the first half of the film. The most interesting stuff is the fallout from the event. The other small complaint is that Nolan really doesn’t know how to write women. Florence Pugh especially gets a rough ride.

Really dull, cheap Shudder original with some of the most annoying characters. Bad acting too. Molly Ringwald has a cameo, that’s about the only interesting thing.

Perhaps the hype made me expect better, deeper and more entertaining. It was ok, but thats about as good as I can rate it.
The acting was fun. The sets were not as extravagant as I expected. The kens were more memorable than the barbies, I swear one was in The OA, but cant remember his name! Nice to see him smile. Ryan Gosling was the stand out, obviously. I used to know a guy with the nickname "Ken Stallion" but for much different reasons. The ken battle and bops were really the only reason to see this on the big screen.
I was disappointed because I thought it was going to be better. Still, it was nice to go to the cinema as its been so many years since I last went. It was empty. Literally 4 people in the entire cinema and one was a very small child.
