"White Oleander" - 5/10
about as good as could be expected when an emotionally complex book is whittled down to two hours of film. In other words not that good, but not that bad. All in all decent, though the book is far superior. Michelle Pfeiffer is perfection as Ingrid. My one real problem is that the hispanic characters were needlessly replaced with caucasians.


"Mockingjay" pt1 - 6/10
Meh. First Hunger Games movie I didn't really like and didn't desire to go see again. Too many why's I think.
Why are they making President Coin seem so nice?
Why is Effie there? (just for a familiar face I guess and because she's 'funny' but it's just... annoying because she's given too much space)
Why, why dear lord why is there like a 30 minute segment of them just running through halls to rescue Peeta? This really got to me because it was frustrating and boring. They could have easily cut that sequence in half and it would still have felt long. Kind of felt like they were just trying to drag things out to justify making two movies.

Left the teather feeling underwhelmed. Not a stand alone movie. Will probably work better together with pt2 so it's a crime that they're planning to sit on that one for another year. Disappointment.

"The Family" - 2/10
With Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert de Niro and Tommy Lee Jones as lead roles I thought it was really weird I hadn't heard anything about this movie until it popped up Netflix. I get it now...
Is it really supposed to be funny to see a family murder/abuse/destroy (blow a store up e.g.) just because someone looked at them the wrong way, said something rude or just generally got in your way? It's not. It's not funny to go "oh, haha, those crazy old mobsters, what do you expect? It's perfectly acceptable to blow up someone's store because they talked about you behind your back or to want to smash someone's face against a hot grill because they suggested barbecuing wasn't your top skill. Oh what a laugh it is!"
Maybe it would have been funny if it had been less and not every single family member going off on violent rampages on their own in every scene they're in more or less.
Honestly couldn't even bring myself to finish it because it was just that bad.

"Night At The Museum 3." Well made, funny, quite original, considering the fact that it's the third of a series, and with a certain sense of loss, due to the deaths of Mickey Rooney and Robin Williams.

It was meh. They could have shaved an hour off of the movie and it would have been better. There were many comical parts that were not intended to be comical. The movie was a hot dog- it was mostly filler.

They could have shaved one of the movies off the triology and made it even better. One small book = lenghty trilogy... there's gonna have to be a looot of filler.

Yeah, how does a book that you can read in one leasurely afternoon deserve THREE movies, all of them 2+ hours?

Money, the almighty god of Hollywood.
I actually expected better of directors like Peter Jackson who have a specific 'vision' for a movie, but I guess he really liked making the first three and wanted to make yet another overly-bloated trilogy. 🙁

I guess it strated with the Harry Potter 'splitting the final book in two so we can make more money', and now it's spread to every BIG book adaptation, 'Twilght', 'Hunger Games', its sad and its shameless hustling for cash.

Loved this movie but I love AJ as I think she is an awesome actress. Beautifully told and with a very different take on the classic.

Mr Peabody & Sherman - 7/10
This was quite a good movie for families to watch I felt. Light hearted and fun with lots of educational stories made fun for the younger age group.

I have made that argument before.. but I was awaiting the final piece, thinking maybe they saved it all for last. They didn't.

I agree with this however, maybe the only way it could have been made was AS a trilogy. Meaning, maybe the studio said, we want more. When Jackson first announced it he said it was to be two movies (which I had no issue with) then it was later changed to three. I think it would be more of a studio thing, and thats purely my speculation, than a director thing.

Big, big disappointment. I was a huge supporter of the Hobbit trilogy and PJ, I defended the trilogy countless times. And now I feel like I shouldn't have. I loved the first two movies, but this one was bad. 2.5h of fighting with no story and SO MANY loose ends (how is this even possible when you have like 8h of movies for a 300p book). Left me with a really bad taste in my mouth.

Mockinjai pt1: 10/10
Went and saw this one again with my mom. I gotta disagree with Taake lol This was surprisingly my favorite in the movies (while it was my least fav of the books). I just loves every single moment of it. And my mom who's not a big fan of the series said the same thing, she absolutely loved it. Maybe it's just me, but it's one of the most touching movie I've seen in the past few years. I don't think part 2 will be able to top this for me, everything felt perfect to me.

Maleficent: 8/10
Very good. Made some changes, and it was kind of cheesy, but if you don't think about the original tale too much it's a really good Disney movie. Plus I've always been a fan of Angelina Jolie.

The Maze Runner 6/10
I enjoyed it, but let's be honest the ending makes absolutely no sense. Maybe it's better explained in the book, but in the movie, this is NOT how research is done lol. Meh, probably am just offended that they got so much of the science wrong. But overall, entertaining movie, I will be watching the second one.

and the ending? going back to the hobbit hole?!? Why was seeing that even necessary. Seriously. It was a BAD movie. The beginning felt very jarring and out-of-place and the ending did as well. I just did not care for it at all.

As long as Steve Carell can win best actor then I am more than happy for Simons to get best supporting. What an unlikely double that would be!

Taken 3 7/10

Someone told me once that it was a bad idea to watch any movie whose title ended with a number. That says a lot for "Taken 3."

Same plot rehash. Somebody messes with the hero or the hero's family, and there is Hell to pay.

Actually, I did enjoy the movie, but even I could see a definite decline in quality between this one and the original. And just how many times can one guy, even a retired CIA "preventer of bad things happening" take on small armies of bad guys and walk away basically unscathed? I mean, John Wayne could do it, certainly, Chuck Norris, most likely, Sylvester Stallone, probably, but LIAM NEESON? He should've at least gotten a broken bone or two, just to make it more realistic.

Jersey Boys 6/10

Not the movie this time, but the stage play. Some ideas just lend themselves better to a movie format than a play and of course, there is the factor of ten increase in ticket cost. If you liked the Four Seasons and want to know the history behind the group and some of their songs, it was worthwhile, but it is not on a par with the great stage pays like Le Miz (based on Les Miserables) or Cats or Phantom of the Opera.

Mockingjay pt 1: 9/10 Saw this movie this weekend with my sister (finally). It's our tradition to see the Hunger Games movies together. She didn't like the first one, we both loved the second one and then this one was just great. It's much better than the book so far, so maybe that makes it better in my mind. But I loved it. It's a great continuation from the ending of the second one. Could they have cut a few small scenes here and there, maybe, but it's a good emotional journey if your invested in these characters. Probably the best movie of the 3 so far, and that's surprising since it's my least favorite of the books.

So super fan somewhere will edit all three movies together and make two movies that are better. Way too much filler and made up stories that are clearly there to make it into a trilogy. Also production on these movie were more rushed than the LOTR movies. Also I don't like all the CGI, which goes back to production problems. Not enough time (money?) for practical effects maybe.

I've never seen the Twilight Breaking Dawn book, but Harry Potter 7 and Mockingjay and big books and a lot happens that it makes sense they are in two parts or you would miss out on a lot.

Maybe it's just me, but it's one of the most touching movie I've seen in the past few years.

No it is a very emotional movie. Which I really enjoyed.

The book is much better and a lot more is explained. There are changes obviously but it's those changes that make the ending make less sense. I'm currently reading the second book and I'm really curious as to how they are going to make that movie.

Shadow of a Doubt 9/10

Might be one of Hitchcock's best films. The choice of shots and imaginary and really interesting, and give small town america a gothic feel, the story is well paced, with some witty dialouge. Joseph Cotton is also a sinister villain, and like most great Hithcock films it builds surpense through little character details.

Rebecca 9.5/10, another Hitchcock film! One of my favourites, really sinister vibes throughout and I love Joan Fontaine in it. Can I just live at Manderely .. Plus Laurence Olivier .. *swoon*.
