It might be worth a try. I got my Mum into it and she was in her late 60's at the time?🙂

My husband isn’t interested, though I’ll keep trying. My mother-in-law is into British shows and my brother-in-law is into Rick and Morty, so it’s a challenge to find something for everybody. 😵

Thanks everyone! Those are good suggestions. My brother-in-law is a Cowboy Bebop fan so that may be a possibility.

Some of the less challenging Japanese anime might be a good option then (like Cowboy Bebop). They should appeal to his quirky senseability and have a strong plot/themes for her. Depends on the show though.

The Orville - Re-hashing of as many sci-fi tropes as you could think of, but I love sci-fi, so it worked for me. The characters are fun, there is humour, but it's not distracting. You've seen it all before, but it's fun 8/10

Witnesses: A Frozen Death - 8/10
Though it stretched credibility at times, it was nicely paced, and gripping throughout, and the performances were really compelling too.

Z Nation season 4: 8.5/10

This is a big step up from last season, this season was awesome!!

Jessica Jones s1. 9.5/10

Only lost the 0.5 because it felt like Hogarth (a very smart woman) just went straight up stupid for plot purposes. Otherwise this show was pretty close to perfection. I loved how dark and twisted it was. It was definitely a different take on a female heroine who likes to drink, has a foul mouth, and is kind of rude lol. I loved her and the show!!

JJ s1 along with DD s1 are the best of the Netflix Marvel shows imo. I'm quite nervous about JJ s2, I hope they don't mess it up!

Hemlock Grove Season 1-3 8/10

This is what a horror/demon show would be if it was not watered down for teen consumption. It was gross, incestuous and disturbing in some parts - but being a show about demons and werewolves, its expected. The storylines and characters fold back on each other, the acting is very good, especially considering the outrageousness of some of the scenes. I love the relationship between Roman and Peter. I like that it follows their supernatural journey and wraps it up in the best way possible. Olivia is freaky AF and Destiny is my favourite character. By s3 it was easy to tell which characters were introduced to kill off, and I did lose a bit of interest during this season as the characters storylines separated before the final episodes. I enjoyed the ending, it felt right. I am unsure if this is based on a book series but it seems that it was with the intricacies of the characters and plot.

This is one I've considered given a look. Based on your review I might just do that.

Maigret in Montmartre - 7/10
First time I've watched one of these. Thought Atkinson was well suited for the role, and it was an enjoyable two hours of TV.

I haven't watched all of these shows recently, but since I haven't posted in this thread for awhile...

iZombie: 7/10

This show is very mediocre. Liv is a bit of a dull, annoying hypocrite and the characters are only okay (with a few exceptions). The episodes kind of run together even if they are entertaining.

Sherlock: 7.5/10

The show was much too in love with itself. The writing was often pretentious. It started out pretty great (season 2 was awesome) but it went downhill. Honestly, Jim Moriarty was so damn terrible. I don't get how he was a fan favorite. And Sherlock's long lost sister? What a mess. The season 4 finale was like terrible fanfiction.

I also tried to watch one episode of Outlander and Downtown Abbey and a few episodes of Elementary. Didn't really like any of them.

while I'd rate Sherlock higher, I'll agree that it's overrated
The Brass Eye - 8/10
UK comedy series, precursor to Thick of it & Veep, skewering of the news media feels more relevant than ever, SNL is the farthest thing from countercultural, they didn't do Harvey Weinstein bc "he's a new york guy" I think there is some internal rot there too, out with the old in with the new I say, and what about the great white hope "What I really want to do is vote with the GOP" Doug Jones? it writes its self. 😉

Game of Thrones s7 6.5/10

This season felt very meh compared to s6 and other seasons. I would even say it bordered on predictable, something that GoT had never been previously. I enjoyed some moments of it, but it definitely fell a bit flat, and was missing some of the epicness of previous seasons. I really dislike Dany/Jon together. I was really glad to see some previous characters come back though. I know there isn't much material left to cover, but 7 episodes just felt very short.

@HowiMetdaSlayer I actually really loved s5. I liked it better than quite a few seasons.

It felt very fan fictiony. Dan & Dave pale compared to George.

season 5 is still the low point though
Can I give a post mortem on S3 of Twin Peaks? 7, maybe 7.5, out of 10. SPOILERS follow...

Twin Peaks is one of my favorite shows of all time and set the stage for a lot of American television that followed... but if you are familiar with the series, then I don't need to tell you any of this. Lynch always challenges his viewers and this season certainly does this. Much of the plot and understanding of the world is left up to the interpretation of you, the viewer. The first five episodes are very gripping and reveal a lot about the plot, but the next handful of episodes fall flat. They push pointless deadend plots forward, which is a criticism I also have with Mulholland Drive. Lynch has such a signature vibe and aesthetic though, it all seems to fit somehow. However, I feel that this season could have been condensed to half as many episodes, been straight and to the point.

"Gotta Light?"

For me, episode 8 was remarkable. This was Lynch close to his best -- not to mention Mark Frost, who as I understand it, developed much of the plot -- this episode REALLY challenges the viewer, offers no explanation, and forces you to draw your own conclusion. Like I said.... Lynch at his best. This was where the series really started to pick up for me again. The real story of Twin Peaks was always the supernatural, the struggle between the white and black lodges, and everything that came with that. Laura Palmer's death was only ever the catalyst, the back drop, and the first domino to fall that gave the viewer a look into Lynch+Frost's world.

I want to talk about Audrey though... because I did not like the way she was handled in this new season. I have seen Sherilyn Fenn express a similar sentiment as well. She feels very much like one of the deadend plots I mentioned earlier, and they could have done a lot more with her. It just doesn't seem to totally fit in with what's going in in the rest of the story. They followed her story like it would somehow be important later on, but ultimately just ended up being a red herring. The only characters that REALLY had any importance to the story were the FBI, coop + dopplecoop, and the Twin Peaks sheriff's department. Even coop's son seems like a bit of a deadend... really only a plot device for one particular scene. Oh, and of course Dark Mother -- which this season is really all about.

Twin Peaks always felt very gothic to me, like Edgar Allen Poe or something. Also very Lovecraftian... The idea that society is safe, and something lurks in the woods and the darkness -- in nature. The idea that we are removed from nature is always addressed, but we are constantly reminded that we ARE natrure. There is usually something supernatural going on in these stories, a sense of dread, of utter incomprehension, and some sort of cosmic game going on that we are unable to fathom. I would also put "Stranger Things" and "Dark" in this category as well. In this respect, S3 of Twin Peaks excels wonderfully. The less it tells you, the more you want to know, and the more it sets up a Lovecraftian/Gothic setting and aesthetic. I would say it perhaps excels better in this aspect than even the original series does. Unfortunately, it has too many flaws in other aspects for me to consider it better than the original...

This came out way too long. I just kind of let a stream of consciousness flow lmao, I hope I made sense...

Nice review. I disagree on the season being too long. Considering how many characters/pieces of the puzzle there are it makes sense. Also the big pay-off moments mean more because of the build-up.
Durarara!! Season 1 (2010) 8/10
A fresh and complex take on the teenage coming of age story, with the gritty realism, and black comedy you expect from the best Japanese anime shows. But it has profound questions about morality and the coldness of modern big city life. Excellent visuals, good characters, and the headless rider is a fantastic feminist icon.

It's a good show. One of the more original animes.
Lost Season 2 (2005/06) 10/10
Even better than season 1 IMO. Gets even deeper into the first season characters, and all of the new characters add something to the show. It takes the story into darker, and more experimental places. The vision and mystery to such plots as the Hatch story is mind blowing. Great tension throughout once again, credible characters, good acting. TV don't get any better.

@HowiMetdaSlayer Yes way Becs!😉 And I think everyone else agrees with me😛

The Gifted season 1 - 4/10
Too soapy with mostly crap acting and bland characters. The low budget shows later on in the season when they try and go too big with the effects. At times the story is so on the nose and clunky. The finale was a mess.

That's probably why you keep them as friends though to stroke you're ego, ha! I guess I just love challenging and visionary TV. That's what Lost is.

OK, I'll come right out and say it: Lost is the most overrated show in the history of TV. period! The first (and only good) season, was really good, but not as great as most liked to believe. And most the so called theories, and mythology that the fans attributed to it, ended up being all in their little heads. Challenging and visionary - hardly. Try shock & awww...as in shock the audience with bs and then awwww...hope they forget how we never get around to answering any questions, or filling in the jumbo jet sized plot/logic holes. Pfft!

Unlike some people I don't require my friends acceptance to like any show/movie/music/other. Plus my close friends tend to have really good tastes in all of those, anyway.

By the way, I gave up on The Gifted after only a few episodes. Not too mention I don't watch anything on the CW.

So maybe keep all of that in mind before dissing people you don't even know personally. Just saying. 😵

No problem. I understand.
Lost is the most overrated show in the history of TV. period!
I'm not sure about that but agree it is really overrated. An regardless of what they say, I think it's just that people guessed the "big surprise" in the first season and they scrambled trying to change it up.
