Reaper Creators Joining Dollhouse

Once again, Twitter tells us so much...
by Eric Goldman

US, June 11, 2009 - Ah, Twitter. It's the new source of so much time wasting, but also increasingly a place where morsels of news are coming from. The latter situation is the case here, as a new tweet from Dollhouse writer Maurissa Tancharoen informed us that the creators of Reaper, Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have joined the writing staff of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse for Season 2.

To be specific, what Tancharoen actually wrote was, "Fazekas and Butters are in D-house and they're awesome." I checked with 20th Century Fox and confirmed that Tancharoen was not just hinting that the duo had stopped by for a scone at the Dollhouse writing office, and that they have indeed joined the series.

Fazekas and Butters recently signed an exclusive deal with 20th Century Fox "“ the same studio that produces Dollhouse. While that deal involves developing new projects, it's not unusual for writer/producers to first take a job at a pre-existing series when they sign new deals of this sort. Similarly, Bryan Fuller returned to Heroes when he signed his recent deal with NBC Universal, though he also will be working on new projects too.

I discovered that Fazekas and Butters have taken the slots vacated by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain. Craft and Fain, another writing duo, left Dollhouse at the end of Season 1 to join Lie to Me, where they will be reunited with new showrunner Shawn Ryan, creator of The Shield. Craft and Fain worked on The Shield after their stint on Whedon's Angel.

Great...now I have to start watching Dollhouse! I miss Reaper as it was hands down one of my favorite shows and when they took it off the air I had such a freggin' fit! It was just getting really deep into the plot when she reaped a graveling that I was so completely hooked and excited to see where it went. Loved the writing! So I suppose this is better than being bitter about what once was. Okay, time to go find episodes online...thanks!

That's actually Dead Like Me which was a fantastic show. I was also raging when it got canned. You should check out the movie set 5 years later called "Life after Death" if you haven't seen it.

Reaper is also a great show, so this is a good thing. Oh, and it has to be said, Sock rules so much.

Thank you. That's what three hours of sleep taking care of a sick kid will get ya...mushy morning brain! ;)
Oh shite! I got them confused! It's been a long time. Color me embarrassed...lol. I'm still waking up...now I know why...Reaper is that one silly show...Yeah...that's not as impressive. Oh well. Is Dollhouse really any good? I've heard bad things...can the writers of Reaper really bring anything to the table?

Haha it's okay, it gave me a good excuse to talk up dead like me. Loved that show.

The first few episodes of Dollhouse are pretty weak, but after around episode 6, it starts picking up to Joss' usual high quality. So yeah, it's a great show overall and I'd definitely suggest watching it.

Yeah, hope Tyler Labine's Sons of Tucson is something worth watching. There is a report that Reaper may get a comic book continuation, like every other canned genre show these days.

I never really thought of Craft and Fain as particularly brilliant writers. Maybe Fazekas and Butters will bring something new, hard to say.
