Reboot Casting

I would want an unknown cast, with actors who are not super famous like Anna Kendrick. One or two well known names for supporting cast, perhaps; to get the word out a bit.

I would want Joss helping out though, not the main writer, but maybe a producer. I want his approval for the lead writers though
Sadly I don't think a movie would work so it would have to be a series... and with that in mind I think "unknown" would be the way to go.

I agree if anything unknown would be better than already big name actors but I don't think anyone can pull it off. There are too many people attached to the old performers. Reboots work best when you liked the stories but you don't really remember the people anymore. I think the comics have kept us attached to the original cast.

Perhaps SMG as Joyce, I think she stated once that she was into that idea.

I'd prefer a TV series over a movie series, though. I don't want it to happen yet, because the comics are still going and it feels a bit too early.

Ok so the one thing I have against reboots in general, but mostly Buffy, is that I believe the actors played their respective characters as exactly who those characters are. If you change who the characters are at their core, then you might as well just write something original and change their names too. I feel like you would have to change the characters a bit in order to fit certain actors in the role, and that's not the way to do it. Either the actor fits the character or they don't. And I personally don't want to see other actors try, cause like I said I think most of the BtVS/AtS actors fit their characters perfectly.

Out of that list specifically, I'd be interested in Chiwetel as Giles, cause he could definitely pull off the smart, wise British guy aspect, but I don't know how fatherly he could be. Never even heard of the girls listed or Buffy and Cordy. Anna Kendrick is great, and looks like she could be Willow, but I do think her attitude is a bit different, but then again it's called acting. Josh Hutcherson I think is a good actor but I've never seen him do anything goofy and silly like I picture Xander to be. Again acting, but I don't know enough of his range to judge. I think a cast of relative unknowns would be the way to go, because then we don't have any preconceptions about them.

See, I know SMG is probably coming up to the age Kristine Sutherland was when she first played Joyce, but that just seems so wrong to me!

Well after being cast yet again as manipulative temptress Kathryn Merteuil for the Cruel Intentions series, I doubt SMG will want "mother of teenage slayer" up next on her acting CV 😉

I just read that Kate Levering was recast as Reese Witherspoon's character. Should have figured they could not have gotten her to come back, since she is a big star now.

What about Spike and Angel? I could totally imagine Marsters and Boreanaz coming back into the fold...

Jk but wouldn't it be something to have these two actors in their fifties playing alongside actors in their late teens/early 20s?

I vote unknowns - and both multi-racial and multi-ethnic. If this is a real reboot, then I prefer to show the reality that small towns and suburbs have changed.

Chiwetel as Giles would be great I think, and yes I think he could pull of wise and fatherly. Kendrick works for me as Willow too except that I wonder if by now because of the Pitch Perfect films if she has become too well known.

The toughest bit of a casting for a reboot would be who would play Buffy.

I like her "Cups" song. Does that count? 😉

I was in the States when that came out and we went to a record store and these girls were basically saying how rubbish the song was and they were so bored of it.

Got back to the UK and it came out over here and I loved it and her even more! She comes across as so down to earth and funny.

She really does. I've seen her on talk shows and she's always nice and like you said, very down to earth.

If it's 20-30 years down the road from now, after many of the cast and behind the scenes folks are either no longer around or just too physically old to realistically even try a cameo appearance, let alone be the main cast member of another series, I might not like what we get but I wouldn't be unopposed to the idea of attempting a hard reboot.

Anywhere within the next 5-10 years, maybe 15 at the latest, I wouldn't want a reboot, but I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of an entirely new show set within the Buffy and Angel universe, taking 2 or 3 main cast characters and/or more notable or higher profile recurring characters, putting them in a new environment that isn't Sunnydale or the Los Angeles area, and, not counting one or two other Buffyverse Alumni making a cameo down the road in some form or fashion, using all new actors and actresses to make up entirely new characters, or to maybe bring to life the odd character or two that has only existed in comics, or that was referenced a time or two in Buffy or Angel but never once actually seen on screen.

That's a fair point, because right now the show if anything is at the height of its acclaim both critically and from the fans. Not to mention that it has such a wide reaching influence on so much else.
