TV's No. 1 network may be ready to conjure up the Power of Three: Vulture has learned that a remake of the hit Aaron Spelling–produced WB drama Charmed is in the works at CBS. Details are scant right now, but Party of Five co-creator Chris Keyser and partner Sydney Sidner are co-writing the project, which insiders describe as a "re-imagining" of the original series about a sisterhood of witches who use their powers for good. CBS TV Studios, which has the rights to all of the Spelling library, is producing the project alongside the Tannenbaum Company. It's still very early in the development process: CBS has only ordered a script for a pilot, and it hasn't committed to filming anything. As Wonder Woman fans will attest, a pilot script does not a revival make. But it's not hard to see why this reboot is being put together.

For one thing, horror and fantasy are hot right now on TV: The Walking Dead is TV's biggest show among viewers under 50; American Horror Story: Coven has been massive this fall; Lifetime is doing okay ratings with the Charmed- inspired Witches of East End; Once Upon a Time is ABC's biggest Sunday hit; and NBC's Grimm has been one of the network's few success stories in recent years. Charmed was also one of the now-defunct WB Network's longest and most successful series: Starring Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs, and, for a while, Shannen Doherty, it ran for eight seasons and 178 episodes. And even though it left the air more than seven years ago, repeats still air on both TNT and WE. Also: A report last year said Charmed was the second most binged show on Netflix. So, yeah: This seems at least as logical as a Murder, She Wrote revival.

Take this with a grain of salt, this is so early in development (we saw the Buffy reboot didn't go ahead) but I know there are some Charmed fans round here.

I enjoyed the show, couldn't take it seriously as it didn't care about continuity and taking itself seriously, but still enjoyable.
Interesting that it's Netflixs second most binged show, though I now feel like a statistic, when I signed up for Netflix, I binged watched Prison Break then Charmed.

If this goes ahead and is a successful (lot of ifs there) I'd say we could see more of a chance of BtVS.

I'd like to see this happen though, the idea behind Charmed was excellent, it just fell apart over time, so I'd like to see another "reimagining" of the idea.
 
Apparently, there's a rumor running around that they're re-booting Murder, She Wrote as well. What's that gonna be like? A female Castle?

I don't know how I feel about all these re-boot ideas. It's almost like no one has an original concept anymore, so they're grabbing onto the first successful show that's been off the air for more than five years. Yes, I'll admit, sometimes they work, but I'd like to see a little bit more creativity back in LaLa Land.
 
They've been running a charmed marathon lately so I've caught a few episodes. I didn't really watch it when it was airing but I like the eps I've seen. They're fun. A reboot might be cool to see.

You have to understand how much fear permeates the culture in television or the movies. A remake that doesn't pan out usually doesn't get the producer fired. A new series with a new concept that doesn't pan out will get the producer fired. I do not want to see a reboot of BtVS or any of the other shows I like, although the movie reboot of Star Trek showing the early years was an artistic success. There has been a plethora of vampire shows and space operas in the past and I think the genre has been tapped out, but they just keep coming. Like zombies.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a new version of Charmed.
At least some similar show would be great to see.

I really liked Charmed but somehow it feels that it could've been done much better, especially the last few seasons.

I think a reboot of Charmed would be a good idea, so long as they tried to do it properly, although I enjoyed certain parts of the show, overall it was a disaster, especially the final episode
 
On one hand I feel like, really? This show ended seven years ago. But on the other, it wasn't a great show so there is room to make it better.

In terms of Buffy, I think it would be madness to reboot the show when Joss and his work is so prominent in pop culture right now. Plus, for a good chunk of its run, Buffy was a brilliant and thoughtful show. It would need a fantastic showrunner with a clear vision not dictated by the studio.

Personally, I don't think it should be rebooted. What's wrong with the original series? If someone complains that "Oh, I can't watch it because the special effects are so bad.", then they shouldn't watch it. I feel like that Hollywood's/TV Heads are beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel. There's nothing original going on anymore really. It's reboot that and reboot this. Remake this, remake that, etc. It's tiring. Why not take a risk? Try something new. Look at Buffy. You can't tell me that Joss didn't stick his neck out a little bit when he pitched the concept.

To sum it up, I'm against this.

There's a rumor running around that says that there'll be four sisters from the start, rather than only three at a time, which I suppose probably means that there won't be any sort of secret sister storyline.

The secret sister storyline only happened because of the Shannen/Alyssa Thunderdome of 2001.
I love Charmed and I personally think it's way too soon to be considering a reboot; it's only been off the air for seven years. Additionally, I cannot imagine any other actors in the roles especially anyone else as Prue. I hope this whole project disappears before it has a chance to even get off the ground.

Fortunately, a lot more ideas go into development than come out. Hollywood buys 20,000 scripts a years and turns out 250 movies a year. Not much gets beyond the pitch stage.

If anything, they could maybe develop a TV series out of the movie "Practical Magic", which they've attempted to do twice in the past ten years. That would be better than rebooting Charmed.
 
I love Charmed!!! Objectively, it's not the best quality show out there, but it was one of the first series on which I got hooked, so I have a great fondness for it. I'd be pretty excited for a reboot. I can't imagine any other actresses as the Charmed Ones, though.
 
Hey, why not? I started out really liking Charmed but as BEG pointed out... it kind of fell apart as time went on. I'll be glad to see a 'reimagined' version of it as I still enjoy the core idea and when I re-watch (or try to) it just makes me feel like the original show is sillier than I remembered it to be.
 
I'm not a fan of Charmed. I know almost nothing about it, so I'm neither excited nor against it.


But they remake and reboot way too much nowadays, in my opinion. If they're gonna remake movies and TV shows, they should at least have a good reason and a great vision. Else, they're just trying to do what worked before. I hate that.
I read that they're remaking Murder, She Wrote. Now, that series is a classic, and I hope they don't screw it up by making it just a stupid copy. I hope they make something new and unique. Something that's worth watching. This pretty much sums up my opinion on the whole idea of remaking stuff.

I absolutely love Charmed. But I also agree with others on here that the quality really went down midway, and what I would like is if the later seasons were remade... with the original actresses. A total reboot with whole different actors? I don't think I would like it :/

They certainly did, there were occasional good episodes in the last few seasons, but it just seemed like they ran out of ideas and forgot the mythology of the show... also the amount of retconning was ridiculous.
