Twelve-thirteen years ago, I was the person that everyone turned to when they had a question about all things music, movies, and television. All things musicians and actors. I knew everything, details of all. I was always up on what was recently released, on recent scandals and other news. I lived for this, I'm telling you. I was a fricking expert!

These days, I'll hear a song, like, two years after it's released. I'm so behind! It's not funny!

Anyway, that leads me to having recently 'discovered' bands that are in no way new for the rest of the world. And I just thought I'd start a thread where we can share these things we're discovering that, while not new, are bringing something new into our lives.

I have fallen in absolute love with Five Finger Death Punch and have been non-stop playing their music in the past 3 days. I'd heard the name before but why am I only now listening to their awesome music???
 
That is the problem with being a vampire and why you have to have a young human companion to remain current and topical.

Am I getting old or what? Puppet comment of it's not her first rodeo, what does horse riding have to do with heavy metal.
Also, what type of bull sang the lyrics?
 
I have been around almost from the beginning of rock and roll and after 1000 stars and 10,000 "hits", I have become a bit jaded about it all. But every once in a while, I run into something that just clicks with me. The Strumbella's Hope CD has been in my car player for over a year and I have Nathaniel Raitliff and the Night Sweats on the CD player of the other car.

@Puppet maybe the reason you have not kept up is you just don't like all the things you used to. The other factor is at one time, there was one hit parade and everyone from the Everly Brothers to Ferrante and Teicher (piano duos) were on it. Now we have rock, classic rock, alternative rock, rap, hip-hop, pop, metal and a bunch of other hit parades because there are more musicians and more types of music that are popular at once. The music scene is becoming more Balkanized in this sense. Most songs are now based on C, F, G and Am chords. Just four chords make up the bulk of modern music. It is getting a little stale. Wasn't it that guitarist from Dingoes Ate My Baby wanted said he'd like to know 7 chord, though the singer of the group thought it was only them fruity jazz musicians who did that.
 
Star Trek franchise. I saw some of Enterprise a few years back, now on to Voyager, there are a lot of episodes to get through! But I really enjoy the ride and its probably going to be a tv staple for me as long as I have access to it 😀
 
A friend of a friend, years ago before they were known in the states, and they have yet to hit full popularity...Now that I've seen them live twice tho, I'm totally hooked

Well, I never paid much attention to pop culture when I was younger. I was inclined to just watch any tv show and film that was on television. I actually know more about pop culture nowadays, though like Angel, I still feel like I’m behind on a lot of things.

Recently, I discovered ‘new’ films such as Weekend at Bernie’s (1989) and Dredd (2012) that I overlooked for years.
 
Guess that would be Babymetal for me.

Stumbled over some youtube video earlier this year and found the whole concept fascinating.
They might be very young still but have been around a couple of years without me taking any notice. lol

Even more surprising is that I still listen to them regularly. 🙂

They're so cute. And their back up band kicks ass. But God, the debate amongst metal heads about Babymetal is furious, hostile, and hilarious. 😅

Insecure metal "fans" screaming, that's not real metal, is kinda funny actually. Especially when their old heroes tells them shut up. 🙂
I admit that it was those girls that made me take notice. But it is that amazing Kami band behind them that makes me coming back regularly.

And all of them are guys. I don't know why they're so threatened, it's stupid. Unfortunately there's a bunch of metal heads that look forward reasons to exclude others...
