Recommend me a smart-phone!

It creates a bad user experience. For two years I was fine with it.. it's been two years of a pain in my ass since then.

Ahh I see. My phone has just crossed the two year mark so I guess I might have this to look forward to. I'm sure I've seen similar complaints from Apple users though who start to have issues with their old phone about the same time as a new one is released.

Xperia Z1

I used to have an Xperia E (much cheaper model) that I HATED, I now regret not splurging on a Xperia Z or a Nexus (I heard that they are much better phones and hold a lot more stuff).

Um, not sure if you still need the info, but here is my opinion ( i have both iphone6 and Samsung galaxy note 3)

I recommend a phone with an android OS.

I use the note3 for everything i use my PC for. Cannot do the same with iphone. Even if you're not plan to root your device to customise it, i still recommend an android.

In android there are plenty of good filesys apps, (in iphone i have the user's nightmare, called itunes. For me the main disadvantage of apple us that they dont have a folder system (which means you can transfer data only thru itunes)

You've been already told about the glass screen - iphones are extremely breakable and high maintenance, and i am clumsy, so I've already repaired the screen 2x times in 6 months (while the note 3 i use more often has no skratch in it)

The iphone SIM is not standard and can be removed only with the special SIM removal tool.

No NFC in iphones, also cannot add SD card (not that many ppl need more than 32/64 GB. I do, so it's good i can add in my galaxy 🙂 )

The autocorrect is dumb, you cannot tame it, only disable.

But the camera is better in iphone, (though the voice recording in video sucks) same with battery life.

I imagine that the Xperia E is let down quite badly by its hardware. The processor, ram and internal memory all look like a recipe for a laggy experience.

Nothing actually. I decided the deals from my provider weren't worth it and since I've never actually managed to break an iphone, though it's glass and I'm klumzy, I decided to stick with this one for now. I'll probably be looking into this next year when I'm back at work and have more of a disposable income, which will help pay for a new phone 🙂

But the camera is better in iphone, (though the voice recording in video sucks) same with battery life.

Camera and battery are pretty much the only thing I care about, lol!

That's what kept driving me towards windows phone. They have the best camera of any smartphone, period. The camera on the Lumia 1020 is simply amazing. I have a Nikon D3300 SLR and the camera in the phone holds its own. It seriously is THE best cameraphone you can buy. The 1020 is not quite as good as the 920 in taking pictures in the dark, but hey, it was almost magical in its ability. The newer 1520 is a step down in image quality but it's faster performance.. still.. if you take alot of pictures on your phone the Lumia 1020 is without peer. Literally. Even brand new phones still cannot match its quality.

Really, Nokia? I've not had a Nokia in years.. I didn't know they were in the business of windows phones. I'm due an upgrade soon, I might see what they have to offer.

I don't know about the others from Nokia, but I do know those two.. check out these reviews.. bear in mind, it's strictly for the camera

Wow the camera looks absolutely amazing. The tutorial for the camera is a great feature too.

I think my friend had a Nokia Lumia for a while, definitely not that one though with such a great camera, but she did say she couldn't download certain apps, eg instagram, on her phone. Does this one allow you to download apps the same as android and iPhone?

Kinda.. you are limited because its a windows phone. But if all you care about are camera and battery then it's the way to go. Apps on window phones are a different matter. The 'big' ones they have (including instagram), but there are alot of crap apps for iphone and even more for andriod, windows dont have those. They have plenty of their OWN crap apps.

I see. I don't use much apart from insta/fb/twitter and now tumblr. So if they have those that would be a start. And I'm guessing as it's windows they'd have a good internet browser hard installed.

What features should a Smart phone have to be properly termed a ' smart phone '
It needs to know how to fly for when it gets thrown across the room.
It needs to have a bouncy case for when it gets thrown against a wall.
And it should have the knowledge to make itself scarce when it needs to.

For a specific recommendation, a new model Nexus 6 is probably your best bet
