Reducing the legal age limit?

Hya, was just wondering whether people in the uk think that the legal drinking age shoudl be reduced to 16, i strongly beieve that it should be or many reasons, for example where are 16-18 year olds meant to go, they too young to go into pubs/clubs but yet they are too old to hang round on the streets or go to kiddy clubs/youth clubs without looking sad. Also just because you say people cant go into pubs doesn't mean we aint going to try, i mean i know people who hae walked round town for house late at night looking for somewhere to get in, which has to be more dangerous than if they could just go into a pub. also i know girls who walk round at night like that and end up getting on with men far too old just so they can get into a pub, in fact i read in my local paper that a girl had been raped for doing the exact same thing. At the very least they shoudl make a pub/club for 16-18 year olds where they can drink and smehow find a way to make it safer than actual pubs/clubs otherwise people are going to drink on streets which is dangerous or wander round town which is also dangerous, what do you think?
 
Um, am I allowed to answer although I don't live in the UK (but in Sweden where the age limit is 18 as well)..? (I'll take that as a yes, hehe.)
I don't really have an opinion on this though. But the things is, that if you want to get into a pub/club you can always get in one way or another. It's really easy to borrow someone's ID, if you really want to get in. So, I don't know.. the problem is of course that age limits don't really work.. But it wouldn't work better if you changed it to 16.. it would only make the 14 year olds able to get in, and we don't want that do we 😀
 
Hey... Ya'll are lucky! It's 19 in most of Canada (some Provinces are actually 18)... And the US is 21!!!

I think that 18 is a good age though, because you are old enough to have been driving for at least 2 years (in Canada), I think you'd have the maturity to drink.

binge drinkings at an all time high at the moment, i dont see how letting even less mature people drink will help things.

the problem isnt kids can't drink its that they've got nothing to do. their should be local government incentives business' to open late night establishments for 15+ to hang out.

oh and the latest government policy is to ID anyone who looks under 21...
 
In the Netherlands the limits for clubs and pubs vary per club/pub. Roughly, 16 mostly for pubs, 18 for clubs, and 21 for casino's.

The drinking limits are 16 for beer, wine, mixes, and light drinks. 18 for the real deal.
 
Now its if you look under 21 you get asked for ID, but 18 is still legal. I dont think so, because kids start drinking around 13 nowadays, so puttingit down to 16 may cause trouble.

Ive never really been fussed about drinking, but im 18 on Monday, woo 😀

I kinda disagree and agree with this.. I'm 16 and go drinking.. some places i do get i.d but not most often.. I think it should be lowered cause.. 16 years olds are mature to drink.. most teenagers have been drinking since they was 13.. cause I started when I was 13.. going on the streets.. now 16.. it too cold and boring to go on the streets.. would rather be in a warm pub.. but the thing is.. I know 14year olds getting away with looking 18.. so it cant be that hard to get away looking 16.. now I think 14 is a too young age to drink.. maybe it should be in between 16 and 18.. as in 17..
 
I think that 18 should be the legal limit all around. I don't think the majority of 16 year olds are mature enough to handle the responsibility that comes along with being allowed to go out and drink (not that all 16 year olds are like that, but I'm talking about the majority).

I think 21 in the U.S. is a bit too old for the main reason that you can die for your country, but you can't have a beer in a bar. It's really pretty dumb.
 
but thebn they are old eough to smoke, have sex and choose what they want to do with their life, and when they rae 17 drive, so i dont think its too much to ask to let them drink legally, maybe make it only legal in certain pubs or clubs that can be carefully monitored- i just think something should be done for people my age, and a club where they dont serve drinks woul be pointless as noone would go, thye solution has to be realistic
 
There are teen clubs here that are very popular. There's no alcohol served and no smoking allowed, but the kids have fun dancing and meeting others..

In the U.S., you have to be 18 to smoke as well.
 
Yup, you have to be 18 to smoke in Sweden as well.. Maybe it's good to have an age where suddenyl everything is allowed..? Like have the same age limit with everything..? (I'm not saying it is, sometimes it's stupid but.. otherwise it's always that "well, we're allowed to do this why shouldn'twe be allowed to do that"..)
 
<ust be different in the uk, we hav teen clubs but they are once a month, they are crap and its full of every type of druggy there is especially pill heads and pot heads
 
I think that the age restriction is there for a reason and it's a good one. I see under-agers everywhere when I'm out. I don't like it because they are obviously doing it behind their parents' backs. They have no idea how dangerous it is and, in the event of a crisis, they have noone to look out for them. Noone responsible anyway. I admit that I did a bit of under-age drinking but it wasn't for me.

I do agree that there should be more places for kids to hang about. I have to say that I didn't have that many problems finding places to hang out though. I didn't spend my time in pubs and clubs. There is an awful lot of under-age drinking on the streets and that can be even more dangerous. Still, I don't think that letting them drink in bars is the answer.
 
I think the legal drinking age should be raised to 45...especially when I wake up with a hangover...not that any legal age ever stopped me before...

Seriously. I think 18 is a good age for everything...drink, drive (not at the same time), smoke, vote, marry...kick it all in at 18, but make the people who excercise their rights responsible for their actions, like they are SO not now. Our legal system gives them ways to avoid responsibility, so rights + responibility is the way to go.

so just because you can sue the person on the other side of the street for not stopping you, your still some how responsible? :S
