I was reading a thread from the Cemetery and wanted to reply to it, but being unable to do so, I thought I'd create this thread.

Digitalspy.co.uk - a British based website that deals with everything and anything released this webpage:

Joss Whedon - "Ripper" Tv Movie - He confirms the commitment - by Ben Rawson-Jones, Thursday 27 December 2007.

Joss Whedon has confirmed that Ripper - the proposed Buffy spin-off starring Anthony Head - is still going ahead.

Whedon, speaking to SFX magazine, stated: "Ripper - or whatever Tony [Head] and I get to make - isn’t imminent, but it’s absolutely on the slate. The Beeb has been grand about it."

News on the show has been sparse since widespread reports in August that the project had been green-lit by the BBC and filming would take place in 2008. The narrative would focus on Head’s Buffy character Rupert Giles, a ’Watcher’ who helps mentor slayers in a bid to prevent vampires from overrunning the planet.

Plans for the Ripper spin-off were first disclosed in 2003, but the project remained in limbo until Whedon made a shock announcement in July 2007

Sorry if anyone has actually seen this before or it's been posted previously, but I thought some folks might find it interesting.

Well, it has been posted before, but don't worry about that. We would rather have information repeated than missing out on it.

No more news since then, though, and I'm feeling less and less optimistic that it will happen.

Frankly, as much as I would love to see this series/movie/whatever finally happen, I'm beginning to think that it has about as much chance of getting underway as the "Titanic II." Hopefully, I'm wrong, though, because if one Buffy support character is able to carry off their own storyline, that makes it easier for one or more of the others to do the same thing, and I really want to see more action from the Slayer folks.

Titanic 2 - Hilarious - And if Celine Dion goes down with the ship it'll be a huge hit!!
I know what you mean White, I've watched the whole of Buffy in the last ten or eleven days or so, and I'm in the process of watching all of Angel, I've got Firefly and Serenity to watch again soon too, but I hanker for something new to watch. Something that's Buffy'esque though or at least Buffy related...

Whilst I think that Dollhouse is probably going to be an excellent programme, I'm not sure that it's something that I'm going to get into (from the trailers I've seen and the literature I've read about it on the 'net)...

The last one I heard Fox was going for it, the BBC was going for it, Joss and ASH always wanted to do it, but somebody connected with the copyright was throwing up a roadblock. The obvious guess there would be the Kazuis.

And now both of the major parties appear to have other commitments, don't they?
